- It's Robot Fighting Time! The fight between Razorback and Icewave in the 2015 BattleBots World Championship was one of the most exciting and destructive matches in the show's history.
Razorback was a wedge-shaped robot with a powerful front plow. Its design was meant to deflect the blows of its opponents and then drive underneath them to flip them over. Icewave, on the other hand, was a bar spinner robot with a spinning blade that could slice through metal.

The first fight of the entire reboot period. What a way to kick off the resurgence of televised robot combat!
It looked to me like Icewave was immobilised and Razorback was just stranded on top of it.

I guess they weren't as astute either in figuring out of someone had stopped working
@@RennieAsh “saved by the bell” implies that the match ended because the time ran out. But the referee counted out razorback even though it was still moving when a badly smoking Icewave got under it and stopped working itself.
icewave was still mobile and dragging around razorback. They just turnd him off via remote controller. Look at 3:47
@@boyvol6428 ok so I looked at 3:47. You see the driver move his hand for a split second. You can’t see if he’s switching something or if he’s trying to go forward. His partner may or may not be switching something. She is the weapons controller and the weapon was jammed by a robot stranded in front of it so its most likely the weapon switch. Literally seconds later, you can see the rear wheels of razorback still spinning back and forth. This means it was very probably still mobile which makes the count illegitimate anyway.
Mark knew his robot was immobile which is why he asked “did we win” and he was so surprised that he’d won.
@@SINTD_666i think they had enough. If Icewave shook it off and reset for another hit the damage would have been far worse and unlikely to cause Icewave to self destruct. Unlike most horizontal spinners the bot rarely kamikaze dies but only loses its weapon.
can somebody explain to me what the idea behind razorback is? Do they only have a big and slow lifter wedge as their weapon? Because I can't figure out how that bot could ever hope to properly win a fight with such a weak setup.
They normally aren't just a wedge on a lifter, if you see the picture in the introduction you could see that the weapon is more of a grappler. They also had a vertical spinner set up.
My first question here was what their attack & defence? Because I don't see any.
@@andyman286 I think it was to keep smashing the wedge into ice wave and hope it broke itself before they broke down.
There were a lot of wedge-based bots in the first few seasons. It wasn't until later that everyone started having some sort of high-kinetic energy spinning weapon. Heck, Biteforce beat Tombstone that season and all he had was a lifting arm.
This was 8 years ago, the bots were way slower and less destructive than they are today so they probably did have a small hope back then.
Looks like Icewave died at the end...
Icewave may have been the first winner, but Razorback was the first to be introduced
I like both bots, but I think it is quite clear IceWave, especially towards the end, dominated. They went in to please the crowd when in my opinion, the fight was already over.
The bot is placed on the other bot - countdown? Is it fair?

It's like the tried to put a little Beta wedge on the front, but you can't use a little Beta wedge, you need a full size Beta wedge to deal with these spinners lol

Most bots bach them where made of paper thin steel, but ice wave also did this to other heavily armored bots.

Icewave was totally dead before the count. Razorback was still somewhat operational.
Really bad call on this one.

cool, but it was very close, also very dumb decision by icewave to go and push in when their weapon stopped. icewave has insane potential, but name really says it all .. it's fragile as ice. even tho opponent had NO weapon, it still managed to break itself and start burning, they gotta work on durability a lot, add more shock dampeners between components and maybe useless bit less powerful motors or more powerful batteries so it wouldn't constantly start burning.
i'd like to see icewave as durable as carbide!

Razorback should have contested that. From what I saw Razorback was still mobile/driving, (but was crowded by Icewave) and should not have been counted down for KO while on top of Icewave; Razorback still had wheels spinning and looked like it could have had forward motion if Icewave hadn't scooped it up. Icewave actually stopped moving when it caught on fire, before he count was done and Razorback still had wheels spinning.
