    The Futurama actually looks like a modded Soviet Borisov Futurama-2, refinished and with a different pick guard. Maybe the original horrible Soviet pickups have been swapped for P90s.
    The body shape, headstock and bridge/trem look identical.
    I would advise caution when buying early Soviet electric guitars because those did not have truss rods and their necks tend to get warped over time.

    I don't remember what my first guitar cost, but it was too big for me and uncomfortable to play (no idea what the music store was thinking not telling me to go for something smaller). So when I picked up the guitar again after college, I traded it in for something I could play without my shoulder and arm hurting and my hand not being able to grip the neck very well. It was a better deal for them than me, but I couldn't really play it and I didn't want to try to sell it myself for a better price. I just wanted something I could play right then 😂

    It was in a wealthy touristy coastal town near some of the hotels on the bayfront, it was actually a place you might see someone like that. Im not the type to recognize celebrities, and i live in the american south so even someone looking like kid rock wouldn;t stand out all that much to me. But the truck was a bit of a give away lol i saw it first and was like "wtf? who likes kid rock THAT much?" And then i saw him and was like oh thats ACTUALLY kid rock. Is it more weird or less weird for him to drive a vehicle with his name in big letters on it?

    Back in the 80s I used to watch a PBS TV show that appeared to be from Great Britain where the people were explaining how to play that synth axe and all the things they were doing with it. I wasn't even a guitar player back then but that thing was fascinating. When I became a bass player in 1997 I would go to music stores and wonder, hey whatever happened to that guitar I was learning about in the '80s? I thought it was going to be the 21st century guitar.

    I spent a lot of time in radio, this was more than likely a radio promo where an artist would sign a CHEAP guitar and it would be auctioned off for charity or gven to a listener. Stations dont want to spend money on a guitar and would literally have someone in the office go to a store and get the cheapest thing they culd get. We did it with I think Ace Frehley, John Melloncamo, and others

    I always get a kick out of the memorabilia stores in Las Vegas that have framed autographed guitars by famous musicians selling for crazy money. The funny thing is the guitars themselves are always crap. They’re pawn shop no name guitars or at the absolute best, squires. They never sell framed autographed American made guitars.

    Here's my take:
    If you're considering spending thousands on a guitar (or other instrument) because it's weird, wonky and eccentric: Go for it, have fun!
    If you're considering spending thousands on a guitar (or other instrument) because of it's history and "How much it's seen", here's my suggestion:
    Step 1: Don't buy the expensive guitar.
    Step 2: Go outside.
    Step 3: Pick up a rock. Any ol' rock.
    Step 4: Realize that this random rock has existed for, at minumum, tens of thousands of years and has seen way more history than just about any man-made object in existence.
    Step 5: You just saved thousands. And you now have a pet rock. Profit.
    ... but seriously, i get nostalgia and collector's value, but things do get rather silly, sometimes.

    I quite like the homemade Alembic. Looks very well done. It might be $2k+ worth if it plays and sounds good.
    Knew about the Dylan Fender XII sale. I'm blown away Synthaxes now fetch that much. The L-7 is really very pretty. My guess is $40-50k on the Gibson Skylark. Here in Indy, it's pronounced "Err-say". It's a small point of local pride that Gilmour's guitar is in town.

    When you make a chariry buy like that Gilmour guitar, how much money goes toward the purchase and how much is considered tax deductible? It's essentially a donation right?

    • @BrooksMoses
      @BrooksMoses 3 года назад

      The guitar (or whatever) is donated by the previous owner, so aside from whatever fees the auction house takes, it all goes to the charity. My guess is that the previous owner and not the new owner gets the tax credit for the donation, though, since nominally the new owner bought it for "fair market value".

    The Joker guitar was actually made for J. J. Cale. Also known as John Cale to people personally. Not the Welsh John Cale OBE from Velvet Underground, as mentioned in the video.
    If you look at photos of J. J.’s guitars, you can clearly see this is his control setup, and was specifically made for his needs.
    Edit: Also, the craftsmanship on that guitar is insane. The swappable pickups were ahead of it’s time.

    I'll never forget a Reverb listing for a used Fender Pro Jr, the 15 watt 10" speaker tube combo from the late 2000's that was once Noel Gallagher's. On a good day, a used one is about $350 USD. The asking price was something like $3000! I'm a huge Noel fan, but a generic Mexican made Fender tube combo does not magically increase in value just because it was his home practice amp. Maybe a $500 premium on top of the normal used price because of that novelty, but certainly not boutique amp price, that's for damn sure!

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 2 года назад

      I kind of agree, but the strat owned by Dave Gilmour magically increased to just shy of 4 million, solely because he played it, so maybe an Oasis fan might like it. Or Liam may want to buy it so he can smash it up. Who knows?

    • @msmoniz
      @msmoniz 2 года назад

      @@castleanthrax1833 I say this as a massive Noel fan, but comparing his playing and home practice amp that as far as I know, that was never recorded on any legendary Oasis(or NGHFB) songs, or toured with, to David Gilmour, his legendary playing and guitar that has recorded many iconic Floyd songs and been played and toured around the world on many a stage, is beyond apples to oranges. Still having said that, I too think $4 million is an insane price to pay for that "mystique"!

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 2 года назад

      @@msmoniz I wasn't comparing them. I was just pointing out that items do "magically" increase in value, depending on who has owned and played them in the past.
