Thinking about your Sunday School Lesson #2 reminds me of King Saul - but of course, there were those before him and many after him with the same human failing - cockiness and "...gonna do it my way". Great teaching Bruce, and with practical applications for today. When you said about our day. " ... ‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see." I definitely thought of our supposed new leaders from the recent selection election. God's sovereign purposes in the earth will stand. As judgement begins with His people, His bride will be made more pure without spot or wrinkle, while the fruitless areas (compromised churches and many mega churches) are pruned off. This is a good thing.
    From Doug Wilson and his team, a few quips:
    As Paul is arrested and put in jail he probably thinks: "Now we've got them on the run"
    Or
    "Cheer up, it's worse than you think"

    #AllSaints2021 This one hurts. (I had all of Apoc. 18 in my reading today). I'm fairly sure ANY attachment to this world and to our "crafts" (art, teaching, etc) will get the many hung up like Lot's wife. I don't want to be attached to any part of any beast system. _But I look at awful electric cars, and my electric heat, and paintings I sign "I.X. [name]"..._ We've got to be prepared, always, to kiss all that goodbye. Including actual people who are attached to anything of this planet over Jesus Christ. Jesus ✝️ says to "all": *Watch.*
    And yet we look forward to the Church Triumphant -by the Grace of God I.X., all things are possible. (But we can't pray for evil of course. Guess that's a "derp".) #HardChapter Beautiful chapter.

    Thanks, Bruce. Good in-depth history lesson... I'm trying to find though where Jerusalem reigned over the kings - I see where some kings and rulers occupied her, but their seats were in other countries at that time... Perhaps this was a precursor to the final fulfillment. I'll keep searching though.

      Revelation must be understood in light of Old Testament perspectives more than first century politics. From the Old Testament point of view, Jerusalem was the capital of the world, maintaining a house of prayer 'for the nations.'

I see now where you addressed this question, but it raised another (lol); if Jerusalem was to have been reigning during the OT and to the world then how do I account for the covenant, the Jews signed a covenant with GOD... Mt 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. I'll keep studying, I know it's there!

      @AbelieverofourLord The Jewish Diaspora existed and extended well beyond the borders of the Roman Empire. Every Sabbath day Jews throughout the world would assemble in synagogues and then voluntarily send financial support to Jerusalem. The Sanhedrin managed a much greater and far-reaching empire than Rome.

      Rome does not fit the text nor the chronology. Jerusalem does fit the text and chronology. It is easy to see how some can make this mistake, but ch. 11:8 makes it plain, "where our Lord was crucified," it must be Jerusalem.

    I'm not a Futurist and I'm familiar with Preterist view. I have a few questions.
    *Where are the hermeneutics that point to Jerusalem being Babylon? We lnow that apostate Israel went into captivity within Babylon. And we know that John in his Revelation, mirrored scripture relating to this event, quoting Jeremiah, Isaiah, and other prophets, which are keys to unlocking the mystery, Babylon, he describes. There are two women in scripture. The first being Israel is a shadow of the second one, the church. You are saying, the woman is Israel, via Jerusalem, which is illogical. When, it is the second one, the church. The opostate church, to exact. Just as Israel became apostate and went into captivity within Babylon, so too dod the apostate church.
    *Your comment 'Propped up on the back of the beast, Rome', is an assumption drawn to fit the Preterist view. Rather, the woman, the prostitute, Babylon, is controlling the beast as one rides a horse, so as to correctly describe her as having complete control. And not, as in the Preterist view, where she, Babylon, is subordinate to the beast, Rome. 'As for the woman you saw, she is the great city that has SOVEREIGNTY OVER THE KINGS OF THE EARTH.' Rev 17:18.
    *Your summation of Paul's writing in Romans in regard to the Jews is certainly not the correct context and which you have twisted to fit your view. The context, in regard to the Jews in his letter to the Roman church, was the very same as that stated to the Galation church, which was to counteract the false teaching of justification by the law, as opposed to grace through faith in Jesus as Christ. This false teaching being propigated by the believing Jews, who were insisting on and teaching the law given to Israel through Moses. Paul was anti Jewish, as you falsely describe.
    *You describe Jerusalem as sitting on 'many waters'. Then later on, you attribute the 'sitting on many waters' to the Jews spread throughout the Roman Empire. Which is it?
    *How could the ten kings/horns (who were to rule for one hour), if literal, destroy Jerusalem? Since the Preterist view of the ten kings is a sequential line of kings, whom all were not ruling at the time of Jerusalem's destruction. I believe the correct interpretation of the ten kings is that the 'ten' represents earthly government. Remember Rev 17:18?
    *How 'the great city that rules over the kings of the earth' possibly be Jerusalem? You said yourself that Jerusalem was 'propped up' and certainly not ruling Rome.
    *Since Revelation is a symbolic book, a 'city' is surely symbolic, isn't it? A 'head' is not a literal head. A 'woman' is not a literal woman. A 'beast' is not a literal beast. And therefore, a 'city' is not a literal city.

    • @larrymcclain8874
      @larrymcclain8874 8 месяцев назад +1

      The woman in ch. 12 is the remnant and faithful Israel, and not the adulterous Israel. Even Hosea was told by God to marry a prostitute so Hosea would understand what God goes through being "married" to a harlot.

    • @robertcain3426
      @robertcain3426 8 месяцев назад

      @@larrymcclain8874 Yes, I agree, Larry. Through Israel ran the thread of the remnant; the believing and faithful Israel. They were the true Israel because they believed and exoressed their faith through obedience. One is not an Israelite simply by birth, as Jesus said to the Pharisees. Cheers

    • @larrymcclain8874
      @larrymcclain8874 8 месяцев назад

      Don't forget, the Jewish Diaspora extended well beyond the Roman Empire. These Jews in synagogues throughout the world paid homage to the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem both spiritually and financially. Rev. 11:8 makes it plain, "where our Lord was crucified." Also in ch. 21 we have another "great city," the New Jerusalem, the Bride of Christ. The Old Jerusalem (adulterous harlot) was destroyed by the beast (Rome), and so the New Jerusalem comes down from heaven to be "with men," ch.21:3.

    • @robertcain3426
      @robertcain3426 8 месяцев назад

      @@larrymcclain8874 Thanks for the fellowship in these things by way of your comments.
      Having read through my original comment, I probably should be more circumspect and a little less dogmatic sounding. However, I do that to Futurists also.
      However, if a 'woman' is not a literal woman, how can a 'city', even the 'great city', be a literal city? And if it is the city of Jerusalem, why not just say Jerusalem?
      Rev 11:8, 'figuratively called Sodom and Egypt', seems to be a reference to the world, rather than Jerusalem. Since, figuratively, the world is represented by the enslavement in Egypt from which every believer comes out of into the promised rest of Christ.
      Also, Jesus was not crucified within the city of Jerusalem. He was crucified 'outside the gate'.
      Contrary to my dogmatic writing, I'm still on the fence. Though I lean to the Historical view. Cheers

    I like the analogy of the woman riding the beast represents the Jews. The principle is correct, but the timing is off. Jerusalem fell in AD70 and the book of Revelation was written in AD 90. John was told that he is going to be shown, "things to come". So, we must look for another religious entity who took over from the Jews having a similar relationship with Rome, and that is the Christian church of the Middle ages, starting from the 6th Century. This is the apostasy that the Apostle Paul spoke about in 2 Thessalonians that would take place before Christ appears the second time.
