All aboard as our skate tour of Uzbekistan continues on to the virgin terrain of Nukus with Ethan Loy, Rob Wooten, Vladik Scholz & Pasha Kuznetsov!
As soon as we felt like we’d gathered enough skate clips from Tashkent to get a sense of the place, we hopped on a train and left the capital behind, heading west. Skateboarding-wise, Nukus was like a blank canvas. There was no local scene and I'm pretty sure no one had seriously skated there before us. We didn't have any guides or spot maps - we totally freestyled it and tested our internal spot radars, or what we might call luck.
If you look up Uzbekistan in travel books, most of the pages will be dedicated to ancient cities like Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. Those very special cities were on our list, too - and that's where we were headed, next. Stay tuned for our third and final part of Hotel Uzbekistan!
