Nice video and good practice, I was personally kept old cars and strip them for part because I always use cars from same manufacturer and close to the same age, great to have spare parts that you don't need to buy for much more money. Great video Dony as always.

I know this video is about STIHL saws but I recently got very lucky when I bought a Husqvarna 350 saw off ebay that was being sold as a parts saw. The saw was missing the bar and chain and the chain brake lever which I had a bar that fit and just bought a new chain and brake lever. Anyway, I wasn't sure what to expect when the saw arrived, the seller said it had compression. I bought the saw to fix up for myself because I wanted a good reliable saw. Well when I got the saw I pulled the rope and it had very strong compression so I put some fresh 50:1 mixed gas in it, set the choke and pressed the decompression valve and it fired right up, nothing even wrong with it, the only thing I had to do was adjust the high speed screw on the carb. This saw is equipped with a decompression valve and doesn't have a primer. Great videos btw, I've learned some new things from your vids. I might make a video sometime soon of this saw starting up.

Good buy, an 026 and an 024 are exactly the same other than a couple of covers and the bore size, most parts are interchangeable.

i didnt expect the engines to be much cop really, but as you said some usefull parts :-)
I would do a full stripdown on both and clean in the parts washer, then dump the bits in a plastic box for your picking later on :-)

That is a great idea to have saws like those which you can use for parts for the saws you already have. I have a older Poulan which I purchased new in 2000, and I never used it that much, and it was a nice saw for me. The newer Stihl, and Poulan Pro saws I have is totally different and both saws are currently in the shop and the Stihl have been the worst for me. The Poulan Pro is a new saw and I have not started it yet due to a problem from the factory.

This is why I'm a Husqvarna man. Those Stihl's are a pain to work on. Have to take off tons of pieces to work on anything whereas a Husky is much simpler. Good score though. Can easily triple your money selling parts off of those.

the best is to buy the fuel when you need it, buy the highest octane (hopefully less ethanol in it) add a bit of stabilizer

Crank Seals are a huge problem with older saws.....You get an air leak in the Crank case, it basically burns up the piston. The parts are cheap....just an Extra Labor item to consider. If your saw Revs without warning, or has erratic Idling problems, and you can't figure it out, HUGE red flag....sometimes trouble starting too.

I am looking to get a top end for my Stihl from ebay. Should I stay away from the Chinese kits (Huztl)? I know they are tempting because of the price but how did you find the quality when you replaced the top end on that husky, and has it been back from repair because of it? Or should I spend a couple extra shillings on a kit from Baileys? Thanks

Hi dony, I enjoy watching your videos. They are great for people like me who have never worked on machines before and are interested in learning this stuff. I have a question for you or anyone that can answer really. My poulan pro (briggs 19.5) is blowing white smoke, could this be my piston rings? It seems like there is build up in my exhaust. There is also a lot of gunk around my valve cover and below it down to my exhaust. The machine runs fine, but I don't know where to start. Thx.

Aloha Dony.. here is a question for you that i can't seem to find the answer for . it is regarding 2 stroke( 2 cycle ) vs 4 stroke small engines. I have 3 stihl pole saws that are the new 4mix engines. I just found out that these are 4 cycle engines. I was doing a compression test and found that they all have around 60 to 70 psi. I thought they were done but they are run perfectly just like new. I have contacted stihl to see what the compression was when these engines were new and waiting on a reply from them. In the meantime i am a bit confused as to why these run great with the low compression. Is it because they have valves and are 4 cycle engines ? Almost all 4 cycle engines i work on all have low compression. Lawn mowers, rototillers, pressure washers, generators etc... all have 40 to 60 psi and run great. This has got me a confused on these new 4mix engines. I know that 2 stroke weed eaters and other 2 stroke equipment has to have at least 90 or above to work to pull the fuel through the carburetor but these new 4mix have me a bit confused as to how they actually work. What are your thoughts and understanding on these 4 cycle engines. Thanks for any input . Mahalo

a rebuild vid for a 026 would be greatly appreciated. i was given one and i got it going then it started to die like it was running out of fuel. now there is no compression. so i figure i will need to replace the piston and head cylinder. i watch all of your vids and know you have covered this on a diff saw. if you have any 026 specific info that would be great. i may actually just buy an electric saw because i don't live in the woods and an e-saw may be cheaper than the parts to fix the 026

Origin of all helicopters (90%) is from china, cheapest manufacturing is the reason. I didn't have a chance to fly big one yet, this winter is so annoying... Can't wait to try it out, but I'm little scared not to crash it, and if I do it'll be hard for me to buy new parts. Must be very careful and practice on the simulator before any attempt outside.
