As crazy as it might sound, you've inspired me to take some classes on small engine repair when I get the chance. I just think this would be such a handy skill to have as a man.
The rubber intake boot is easily re-installed with a loop of nylon cord wrapped around the tube and threaded through the provided hole and tugged through the rear plate. It will cinch closed as it pulls thru with ease. It also helps keep the pumper hose from detaching.
Another thing, have you ever seen those plastic baffles fail on the MS250/025? The one on mine seems to not clamp the bellows properly even though it does look fairly tight as it leaks a tiny bit from the bellows during a leak down test. I even installed a new bellows and it still happens. When I use a Stihl intake clamp like on other saws it does not leak. I’m tempted to just ditch that plastic baffle.
Hi Don, I’m rebuilding an 025 and have found these series of videos you have for the Stihl MS250 real helpful. However I also used Permatex RTV Silicone to seal the crankcase and it ended up blowing out after a day of use once I had it back together. To confirm I did a leak down test and it definitely was leaking along some of the crankcase. Had to reseal it with Permatex motoseal. Have you ever had issues like that using RTV Silicone to seal a crankcase? I prepped the surfaces in a similar fashion like you did in another video so was pretty surprised the sealer failed when it did.
A popsicle stick or doctors tongue depressor can work great to reinstall the intake boot and other soft rubber parts that can get damaged by a screwdriver .
Man you instruct well. I have a question. I'm repairing a ms250 for a friend of mine. Initially it didn't start at all. I tore down the carb, cleaned it replaced the metering diaphram and spark plug. It finally started ,but now the chain won't stop with the brake on. I tried adjusting the idle mixture, but when the chain starts to stop, the engine shuts down. So in order to keep it running, I have to adjust it where the chain is moving. Can you help?
Hi I rebuilt the carb on mine. I dont remember which mixture screw goes where. 1 is pointy tip and the other is blunt tip. Also if the return line micro hole in it will that keep it from reving high? As soon as I give it gas it bogs bad and I cant seem to adjust it out. Thanks for the great vids!
Would it be a good idea to wrap one round of duct tape (or maybe electrical tape) to the tips of the needle nose so you lessen the chance of tearing a hose?
I have a Stihl 036 PRO that a friend has asked me to do a top end replacement on. The aftermarket cylinder does not have the stud on top that the cover secures to. Do you usually use the one from the old top end or just purchase a new one? I don't see how to remove the old one or install a new one. Do you have any experience with these?
Have 029 that boot wont come off??any ideas how to not brake it..couodbt get it off tor restcsaw down ..except that afreid to brake it..want tp orxer 039 top end
yeah i know i saw that video but i meant like the crankcase?Like i saw some videos on youtube and they heated up the crankcase and then they put it together,unlike you you didn't have to heat up nothing cuz it's a different job i'm guessing?..Are they called the main bearings?
I have a 021 that after rebuilding the carb, seems to be still starving for fuel. Could this be a crack in the impulse line or intake boot? thanks for your help.
hi i have a Stihl MS250 IT DOES NOT SWITCH OFF THE SWITCH DOES NOT SEEM TO BE OPERATING CORRECTLY ANY ADVICE ABOUT THE ASSEMBLY WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED REGARDS STEVE
Odd that the related clips on the right fills upp with girls in bikinis more than chainsaw videos. I guess it says something about the audience. Other than that, really nice videos, and at least for a scandinavian your canadian accent sound so much nicer than the average americans.

@ML424wr the impulse line carries impulses of air from the crankcase to power up the carburetor
@foreverwood1963 your clutch springs probably need replacing, i had a Husqvarna that did the same thing

yes it is but i mix 45:1 just for a bit more oil
muy agradecido ya que tenia duda como se quitaba el embrague en still ms-250 y si la rosca es alreves

thanks for your help.
This is great but the one section you did not address is the gap between the crank and the ignition coil.
I have a video that shows how to check crank bearings
@MrFerrariman1 thanks, that's what i usually do
is it ok to run a older saw like a 028 AV on stihl 50:1 oil?
What or how would you find out that the bearings are bad inside the crankcase?thank you
I wish the cars would be as simply to repear as this.
Nice video, those intake boots are a bugger aren't they
what gap do you set that spark plug at?
@foreverwood1963 around 025 to 030
can you help me?? is it possible my fuel suction hose gives false air to my carb?
its also an MS 250
@aztecuvolmts2 definitely could be
What is the function of the impulse line?
@gokartspeeder sorry i do not have anything
dony, what is the purpose of the impulse line? and do all 2 stroke engines have it?
thanks
the pulses from the crankcase drive the diaphragm in the carb that acts as the fuel pump
hi i have a Stihl MS250 IT DOES NOT SWITCH OFF THE SWITCH DOES NOT SEEM TO BE OPERATING CORRECTLY ANY ADVICE ABOUT THE ASSEMBLY WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED REGARDS STEVE
i have to do that as some one droped my saw could not find a used crank case i could not find a used one in my area 130 candian for it

Did you ever wonder why the hole in fuel tank where fuel line grommet is , is slightly larger than the fuel filter diameter?????
@xchrismccoy thanks
You can do it with a pice of rope
Thanks for that!, yeah I do to same, better to have a little more than too little ;-)
Is there a way to contact you ?
