I'd just like them to roll out some more superchargers in rural areas. They don't need to be big installations - three chargers like at Cann River would be good. The furthest west you can go in NSW is Wagga/Dubbo - probably a third of the width of the state. I know there are other chargers but when you're on a trip you just want quick stops. Cheers
Don't worry too much about FSD. I've been using it for a while now. It's amazing at the start, but now I don't use it much. It makes dumb decisions that are annoying (not being in the right lane on a highway), and it can be very jerky. Passengers don't appreciate it!

That's a great review. I'm in your demographic and agree with most of your dislikes. Tesla's integration of Autopilot with their maps causes Autopilot 'slowdowns' at certain places where map errors put non-existent roundabouts or Stop Signs. On Freeways this is especially problematic. Damned annoying in areas with lots of map errors like Wodonga in Victoria.
Here are real reasons to dislike Tesla. No joking here: FSD still cannot be trusted, after almost 4 years in beta testing. Autopilot has problems with Phantom Braking. Poor quality paint and fit & finish, according to many owners. Insurance is more expensive, DMV registration is more expensive too. 19 or 20 inch tires wear out quickly, and are expensive No dashboard, just a big iPad screen Range is much less than expected, in hot climates and cold winter climates Eventually, a 20 thousand dollar battery pack replacement will be needed An ICE car can add 400 miles of range at the pump, in less than 5 minutes. Tesla takes much longer at public chargers. Latest Tesla Model 3 and Y have ultrasonic sensors removed. That means that Summon and Smart Summon functions are *disabled*
And yet they sell in their millions and globally the model Y is the biggest selling car, not just electric cars, of all types. What do they know that you don’t.?

And the savvy people of Australia are buying even less than that. Last year In China, Tesla was not even in the top 10 of Best Selling Car Manufacturers. Elon Musk has said that Full Self Driving is the key to success for Tesla, but today FSD is still nowhere even close to trustworthy for autonomous driving.

100% agree, first set on our performance lasted 30,000km, 2nd set lasted 40,000km, this set has now lasted nearly 50,000 km and has a bit to go, (all the same type)
Good points. Many reviews say the Y is a little noisier and also has a less compliant ride compared to the 3. I have a 3 and the wife wants more space so it has been suggested. Thoughts?
I heard similar but once I moved from the 3 to the Y I found it a non issue. Maybe an earlier model problem. The Y is the top selling vehicle in the world, of any type not just EV’s. Cheers

They say by 2050 if current migrant intake rate continues 75% population will be in units or townhouses - good luck to them. No mention of the increased tyre wear. Postpone my ICE car retirement out even further.

The first is optimal and the second scenario is the one they fear most probable: when time comes nations (militarily) will be scrambling over rapidly dwindling reserves - will be bloody and brutal. You know there's twenty tonnes of CO2 emissions in every Polestar sold right? Equally you're aware the current known reserves of rare earths is ridiculously insufficient to realise current ambitions. Besides which, you know what happens to turbine blades at the end of their life cycle right? Oh, end of life, 🤔 where do all those batteries end up, some tip in some impoverished country?
Hi David, you may be right. Certainly fossil fuels are finite. You can’t recycle a burned hydrocarbon. What we do know is that minerals are not the constraint, just current processing capacity. Once we get to a certain number, I’m guessing, say 1 Billion EV’s, recycling the batteries and rare earths means we barely have to dig up any new stuff. If you have a better idea let the world know as there’s a Nobel prize in it for you. Cheers
I just got into a Uber with a TY, gosh that ride was ridiculously uncomfortable at the back, I could feel every single bump/potholes. I would never buy a car without carplay (I use waze most of the time) & headup display
Sorry if this has been stated elsewhere. But, your $4,000 annual energy saving needs to be applied to the premium you paid for your battery (vs equivalent ICE), home charging setup and excess depreciation (vs ICE) - your real savings are many, many years off.
I agree, the economics of replacing my old Mazda with a Tesla mean I’ll never break even. However just in a fuel to fuel basis I’m saving about $4k a year. Now that EV’s are nearly the same price as similar ICE cars then why buy ICE and pay an additional $4k a year to travel the same distance? Cheers
Seems wild to be waiting for FSD to solve all these problems when you're having problems with the regular autopilot stuff. If they can't get that right, how are they going to get FSD working

Informative video, however, to be fair, running your air-conditioning at night, uses significantly less energy, than, during the day when the air-conditioning is competing with the heat of the sun.
How come nobody recognizes the fact that much of fuel costs are taxes that the governments aren’t collecting with EVs. YET! Tire wear is primarily due to the extra weight of the battery.
I’m not sure but aren’t large diesel SUV’s and RAM trucks heavier than Teslas? How is their tyre wear? Also, road user charges are fine with most EV drivers I know. They were introduced in one state in Australia but had to be refunded as these have to be be Federal not state taxes.

But let’s see what an EV pick up equivalent might weigh. My comment about the tires were from reports of EV owners complaining about tire wear Now, as for taxes, the shoe will eventually drop. The 3 levels of Canadian government collect $25 billion annually. So don’t be deceived by the current low cost of charging EVs. It’s going to come. Not to mention the infrastructure costs to upgrade the grid to accommodate all these vehicles.
Do the long math , you say you save 4k a year on fuel but how long will the car last ? There's a lot of 25 year old cars on the road, how many model Y will be running in 2049 ?

The battery will degrade and need to be replaced , only the car will be worth so little it won't be worth it. That is if it doesn't burn you to death in the meantime ( charge indoors do we?) Pay 50k for a 2nd had Land Cruiser , it will outlast 10 of those .
you say FSD "will fix all of these things" (regarding phantom braking and other assisted drive problems), but that's not true. there's no guarantee FSD will magically fix all that.

Good video mate, but ice being worthless and electric being cheaper to run…you’re a bit premature. Govt not making money off your fuel tax won’t be tolerated for long, and NZ here just announced pure EV will now pay diesel like road tax per km traveled, $88 for 1,000km I think. Currently ev done contribute to road repairs or builds, funded by fuel tax, so they’re closing this loophole April 1st this year. While I agree with this, I disagree that they are also going to charge plug in hybrids $54 per 1000km. Reason being my sisters outlander gets 30km to a charge (claimed more, but we won’t go there), which means when she travels from Rotorua to Auckland and back, 470km round trip, she gets 30km on ev then she’s on petrol so will pay tax on her fuel, but also road users charges on her ENTIRE trip. This is NZ, but rest assured Aussie will be looking for a way to get the equivalent of fuel tax off you for the roads since they’re not getting it from fuel. If you think it won’t happen you’re kidding yourself. It’s not knocking Tesla, it’s not knocking EV, it costs will bite you sooner than you think. Values of hybrids here plummeted overnight…ev…won’t be far behind
Let’s watch and see. I’m an ex kiwi and I get over there often. You’ll be aware that VIC here implemented an EV tax and had to reverse it and refund the $ as it can only be done as a federal tax. So Aus will have to get all states to agree. Cheers

Why do you drink a beer in a bar if the beer at home is so much cheaper? Why do many people have big trucks with mud terrain tyres and only drive on a beach once a year?

Most ICE vehicles I’ve owned were junk by 200,000km. I expect the Tesla to last forever and be my robotaxi when I’m too old to drive

I don't know why anyone would buy anything other than a tesla. Running costs are so small the car literally pays for itself.
