    I really can't see the difference between the + and pro model. With such minor differences I think it could be different
    Manufacturing tolerance and not any actual design change. Anyway, no colour coded jacks is a far greater sin and I think you even had the leads swapped
    The wrong way during the DC accuracy
    Test. Just goes to show how important colour coding is. The only thing I liked about this meter is the boot with the raised frame around the screen and the little LED lighting up during continuity.
    As always, a great review Darren. Looking forward to the next one😉

      Spot on friend...I actually had an issue with the positive test lead as it was not going all the way into the positive input. It was my fault though so I negated it from the review and eventually swapped in another identical UNI-T test lead.👍As you said..it's very easy to mixup though and a PRO multimeter needs color coding.

    Great vid! Always enjoy your reviews! I like Uni-t meters and currently have a UT139E which is a solid meter for price. However, it's disappointing to see Uni-T take one of their current basic meters and throw some black plastic on it and then add the "Pro" designation in the model name. Not sure if it's a cultural difference in their "Pro" meaning but either way they should do their research on intended markets to know the end user's expectations. Currently as is, this meter is no where near a pro level meter.

      100% in agreement Mike..
      Only thing PRO about this dmm is PRO-blematic and doesn't really do anything worthy of such a label. Thx for the kudos.. 😀👍

    Except for the manufacture date, it appears that even the numbers on the PCB are the same, so the only apparent difference is the switch from cob to smd, which itself could be a simple change to a batch order. Accuracy varies from unit to unit, *especially* at this price range where meters obviously can't be lab certified, so any improvements in accuracy are most likely down to random variation. Thanks to Darren for the review of what's obviously a rebadged 890D+.

    i guess Uni-T decided to use all-black to distinguish it from its "plus" and "non-plus" siblings. its dc volt accuracy is awesome btw. i agree with you Darren, Uni-T should put more efforts like build quality, input protection, etc in it to call it PRO.

    Set it to temperature mode and short out V and COM to get the internal temperature of it. Should always work with type k inputs in DMMs based on the underlying measurement principle.
    Do you plan to have a look at the UT89XE? I think you could like it :-)

      @@KeepOnTesting The UT89XE is a surprising combination of functions. It has a fine Chipset made in Taiwan. With it's 20.000 counts, car enthusiasts and hobbyists can mostly stay in the 20V range, no need for autorange there anyways. And it has temperature and automatic backlight. no space wasted for stupid transistor test, weak flashlight and rarely useful NCV. Ranges go high (200MOhm with nS range, 200mF, 60MHz, uA range) and continuity is fast. It's interesting and input protection should be enough for hobby applications. Even has shielding on sensitive parts and insulation slots. Good accuracy.
      Strange thing.
      Could be interesting for your audience.

    Interesting review, I wonder if the fuse has been deliberately down rated to 16A, as the meter is not continuously rated for 20A, only 10 seconds in every 15 minutes. Would probably take repeated overloading to age it and blow the fuse though, depends on what curve the fuse has been designed to.

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  3 года назад +1

      Thanks..I do think the advertised fuse rating shouldn't belie the actual fuse being used in the meter..it's a slippery slope...

    For me, the main flaw of this multimeter is that it sometimes can't measure the capacitance when it's just in-between ranges. I had a capacitor close to 600nF and it just kept jumping back and forth between uF and nF without displaying a value. Same behaviour with another one around 600uF. I wish it was possible to manually select the range for the capacitance.

    I usually see your reviews, but the input protections of this multimeter are better or equal to those of the Habotest 118E/A, which you didn't mention in your reviews when you rated the Habotest 118E/A, I have the idea that this or these multimeters should have a lower rating because of this. Regards

      Hi friend, thanks for your comment. My biggest gripe is the " PRO " designation for this multimeter..to me calling it "PRO" should trump regular input protection standards to something more robust.

    It’s odd they went for all black. I have a UT210E Pro, which has a bit more black than the UT210E, but still has the classic Uni-T color scheme.
    Seems like a bad decision to completely ditch their iconic color scheme.

    This UT890 PRO is almost identical to UT890C. They both measure temperature, while UT890D+ has a Live feature instead. You might have noticed that it even states so on the PCB (UT890C V6). So now I’m curious to know, how exactly are they different. Maybe it supposed to be UT890C+, but UNI-T decided to just market it as a PRO version? I mean, you made a spot on analysis comparing it to an actual PRO model. They just gave this one a "cool" black rubber case and called it a day.
    Now I don’t mean that this is a bad model. In fact I quite like the original UT890C and UT890 PRO is even more accurate (supposedly). I just don’t like that UNI-T is using this misleading naming for marketing.
    Nice review as always. Occasionally there were rough audio cuts, but nothing major. There is just one thing that bothers me. You said that to measure duty cycle you need to use a separate frequency mode, but there is a "hz" label on the AC mode. Can’t you switch to duty cycle on ACV with a Select button?

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  3 года назад +1

      Great analysis..The Hz button had no effect on this unit..I've written to UNI-T about it but no follow up as yet. As you say being in AC mode I should've simoly invoked Hz by hitting the Select button but at least on this unit it made no difference. Did they put a typo on the selector or was my test unit flawed...I'm getting another unit in about a week so I will update here. I think it's a God manual ranging multimeter but definitely not deserved of the PRO LABEL
