I've said it before but I'll say it again, when UNI-T get it right they are up there with the big hitters, what a cracking meter, every thing about it just screams quality. Any chance you can have a look at a ET12S thermal imaging multimeter? Thanks Darren. (incidentally, nice giveaway, congratulations to the winner)

Ok gotta admit, this video made me buy this meter and I do not regret it at all. Bought mine locally, but the clamp and a full set of probes are on their way from China. What a deal, the quick response is everything, my old one was painfully slow. Thank you Darren!

Thank you for all these Uni-T multimeter reviews. Now I have a first world problem - decision paralysis! So many excellent but not perfect multimeters. I have the UT204+ AC/DC clamp with good DCV accuracy (0.2%) and I want a Uni-T multimeter to replace my sold Kyoritsu 1009. My multimeters measure 1.2V to 12V batteries 90% most of the time and 10% for capacitors, diodes and LEDs.

Fantastic review. Yet another multimeter I now HAVE to buy 😂.
It's clear that Uni-T listen to critiques and feedback from reviewers and customers which is the sign of a great business.
I have 7 or 8 different pieces of Uni-T equipment and can attest to the build quality on all of them. I have bought the higher end Uni-T models so maybe the lower price models are not built as good on the cheapo's but they still have to turn a profit.
Happy to rely on all readings from Uni-T, something I can't say about many other China based multimeter producers.
I have some of the best meters that Fluke have to offer and they definitely have a place in my tools arsenal for ultimate measurement confidence but on most occasions I use one of the Uni-T's as the cost doesn't leave me devastated if dropped or popped and a replacement is required.
Shelling out £500 or thereabouts for a new Fluke replacement is tantamount to open heart surgery on the wallet, £100 or less is far more acceptable and doesn't leave the wallet in trauma.
Uni-T also seem to almost surpass Fluke in the sheer scope and range of their test equipment and also the measurement ranges of their meters which in most cases surpass Fluke in the breadth of functionality of most of their offerings.
Mastech could have been a huge company had they followed the same business model, they had a great range of equipment, nice design cues and at really good prices but attention to detail, reliability and build quality was never there, still have a couple of clamp meters by Mastech, one for measuring in-rush current which is still working fine but I have a few other Mastech meters that have long since failed and usually between uses while sat in the zipper case. The Cable Tracer still works fine but the IR Temp gun packed up in short order, after around 3 to 4 months. The 5 in 1 multimeter which features Temp, Lumens, Decibels amongst other things is still OK but is hilariously cheaply made, horrendous toy quality plastics, the green boot overmould is the trashiest plastic/rubber crossover material ever, I wouldn't even design a dog turd collector using that junk.
Great to see Uni-T not just rest on their laurels but keep innovating and improving their models and aspiring to be like Fluke instead of Vici. They keep moving forward in design and technology and they make some very aesthetically pleasing meters to a very high standard with premium plastics, the LCD screens are famously good even beating Fluke with their display qualities and are excellent in contrast, clarity and viewing angle with very bold black 7 segment digits in all lighting situations and that is across most if not all of Uni-T's range.
Thanks for a great video, your lighting and camera work are top notch. I have watched your channel since it's earliest days and the depth and scope of your reviews is reliably fantastic.
    Have a great weekend.

One of the best offerings yet from Uni-T, very impressive - and it should be in this price range - unlike so many others its performance is equal to its asking price - though I am a bit disappointed to not see a U/L rating when getting into this price range, I have a $60 Greenlee meter thats U/L approved, its the gold standard.

    • @KeepOnTesting

    • @yambo59
      @yambo59 Год назад +2

From some reading ive done U/L approval is seldom seen on many import meters because the cost of U/L certification would raise the retail price substantially or they dont pass the requirements. But as you said this one does indeed check many important boxes and seems a high quality meter, but again if a Greenlee made by Bryman managed a U/L rating at $60 why not this one at over twice the price -- though I admit it wouldnt stop me from buying one if I didnt already have my own herd of meters-lol

This multimeter is designed for industrial electricians. Compared to the UT61e+, this model has a smaller range of measured values and a larger measurement error. UT61e+ has less error and is more accurate. Here in the video, when measuring resistors, a significant difference is visible. In addition, nothing is said about the possibility of measuring Tru-RMS in this multimeter. UT61e+ is not stated, but it measures with good accuracy up to 300 kHz and more.

As a righty, I really like that left-thumbed, one-click access to auto-voltage, since this is probably what I want to measure 90% of the time and then shut the meter off. If I'm going to customize it for me, I'd probably but resistance one-click to the right of the off position.
The beep that it makes when you switch the selector to current mode seems odd; wouldn't you want it to beep anytime the probes are in the current jacks instead? I likely don't know what I'm talking about, but there's not much danger trying to measure current when you are in voltage mode whereas the other way around is the problem, right?

I am seeing some serious downsides to this meter:
    1) Disappointing DC accuracy of 0.3%. Why so low?
    2) no mA and/or uA DC current range
    3) no temperature measurement, how hard is that?
This meter seems to be targeting electricians for field applications. But then, why would an
electrician need 60K codes? Doesn't make any sense to me. And a DC precision of 0.3% isn't really "high precision",
as advertised. You are better off with a higher end Brymen BM785 for example, that has a DC base accuracy of 0.03%, which is
10x better than this, and only costs around 125 Euros. Moreover, the Brymen is of superb quality and voltage protection,
has both mA and uA DC current ranges, and twin temp measurement capability.
The BT feature is neat though. The rest is meh.

      The UNI-T does do mA.
It just doesn't have a dedicated mA range. The Brymen is over 500$ CDN! That's way more than the UNI-T. It was spot on accurate during all of my tests.😊 Brymen had not updated the 785 in over 10 years. Stale.

Thick trace layer, silver plated on the current shunt trace for increase current capability and readuce heat. Nice nice multimeter.

The Chinese completely copied the technical design from the Fluke 117c, not the appearance, but the arrangement of the elements: the bib, the screen and the symbols on the screen. This is not bad, the Unitrend used to collaborate with Fluke.

The best value are Brymen DMMs. They are on par with Fluke meters, which have reference status, but for a fraction of the price. What makes a good meter is its build quality, voltage protection, and DC accuracy. That's what you pay for. Brymen can't be beat on these. You get the best quality bang for your buck. Nobody comes close.
They are made in Taiwan, and a bit hard to come by here in the US. But you can find them online in Europe. Welectron for example. They are happy to send it to you. I highly recommend Brymen, you won't regret.

@KeepOnTesting Dear Darren, I have a serious capacitance measurement problem with the meter. For many of the capacitors around 10 uF, it keeps oscillating between 10 uF - 100 uF range when the capacitor is on a pcb. I never settles. It reads nothing. I have four other multimeters (Uni-t ut17b+, Owon HDS272, Rihcmeters 102 and Ananeg 3008) they all manage to read the capacitor correctly at the same conditions.
You cannot measure the 400v 10uF capacitor which is almost on any smps circuit, without taking it out of the board. It's very annoying.
Why not touch upon the capacitance measurement performance of the device please, which is not mentioned at all in your piece. Thank you. Except that, gorgeous device!.

@@KeepOnTesting Thanks. However it would be great, if you could give at least some written feedback about if you have the same problem on the uc117c. Is my device defected individually or if this is could be a generic problem for this model. You have a 9.7K hit for the video at the moment. Meaning that, surely, lots of people would expect your comment to go for this device. Not leaving this issue open, I believe, would contribute to your precious work.
I am really disappointed. I rushed to buy it, having seen your video. I still hope that I am mistaken somehow. How come, such a distinguished device cannot measure the capacitors that the Richmeters 102 can. Maybe it is not very good in general at measuring capacitors.
Well up to you of course. I hope, I did not bother you. Thanks in advance.

      @@cenkbila4172 Thanjs for following up.
Ok..I just tried testing a 10uF cap on a new Power board pcb and it could not settle on a reading. I tried with a SANWA CD732 with same result. I also tried with a UNI-T UT18B and it successfully measured the 10uF cap in circuit. Go figure. I then desoldered the cap and all 3 multimeters had nearly identical readings. Thus you are correct when stating it seems to have difficulties with in circuit capacitance measurement, but so does the expensive SANWA...so it's not unique to the 117C. I'll look further into this and try to ascertain why some meters can cope in circuit while others cannot. 😅 Thx and I'll keep you posted. You can also email me directly : netplicity1@gmail.com

Then let us go back to the topic: The UT117C is a cheeky copycat of the Fluke 117. (How bold is it, to name it even "117"?) Similarities are e.g.: Auto LoZ V, no mA-Range, position of the rotary switch and both are independent certified. Differencies for advantage of the Uni-T: Easier access to the fuse, magnetic hanger already delivered with the meter, 10-time resolution (60`000/ 6000 Counts) and, probably the most important, half the price (169,-€/ 335,-€) Practically the only advantage for the original: It´s a Fluke. As I already wrote: This kind of meters is dedicated to electricians, not for electronics. Most funny for me: Preparation for a strap in "Bat"-mode...

@@probang2866 Great points! Proves that you can never rest on your laurels alone . Fluke has some serious catching up to do if they want to remain competitive. I think a big allure of past Flukes was the fact they were made in USA which is no longer the case for most of the lineup. They are "nothing" special anymore with regards to manufacturing geopolitics which makes them even a bigger target for other vendors.
