Thanks for the early review on the new Uni-T 61E+. I was hoping this would be an easy decision to upgrade to from my current 61E. I am always forgetting to turn off the 61E and draining the 9V battery. This new 61E+ meter certainly fixes that issue along with backlighting. Is it the upgrade of UT61E?? By the way it is a cool multimeter, very well finishing. But NFC is very poor & there should be temperature range instead hFE
Agree. hFE is very archaic (especially when there are transistors meters for few bucks), instead there should have been a temperature measurement function.
Hi Darren , I had just look into my 61d+ internals and to my disapointment it does not have the shielding, maybe only the 61e+ have it. Also the ptcs,, mine only have 3,, and the high voltage precision resistor network the black retangle precision resistor is not present, solder mask is green.
Thx for the update Juan..wow, that's truly disappointing 😔 I wonder why the shielding was absent on the 61d+? As for the input protection , I suspected it may have been watered down on the other versions..thanks for the confirmation.
Love that they use bigger movs and ptcs,,, downside is the diode test, my 139c was able to display forward voltage drop and lit all my test leds, this one seems not so as your test shows.

191 is geared towards offsite, outside electrical work..It has great weatherproofing and a solid build. 61 is better suited to bench electronics. Both are stellar multimeters in their own right.
Good day Darren,, question. Have you observe this on your unity legion? There is an issue in low ohm measurement. In shorted test leads meter shows 1 ohm.The user manual stated if meter have higher that .5 ohm in shorted test leads is not normal. The meters are just appox 1 month from purchase date. Test leads are good. Tested it ony my 87v and sanwa cd771. This issue occurs on my 139c and 61d+ . 87v shos .3 ohms, sanwa shows 000. Unity both shows 1.1 ohms
Hi, just found out today,, the screw hole at the back of the 60+ and 160 dmm is compatible with camera and phone tripods/phone stand, I mounted mine on it.
looks like 2 IR diode for USB communication, RX & TX probably like other high end DMM? Those diode beep test is similar to fluke 87V, and I surely appreciate that additional green led indicator, fluke should take a note. Hold button as backlight? I might miss my delay hold on UT61E, at least they should try autohold or similar to fluke's touchhold. Funny though they use those ARM processor and keep at 22000 counts; for the sake of UT61E name series probably? Clamping transistors looks nice and easy to identify (and get replaced with better TVS ). Resistor network similar to UT61E, some people try to replace it with very expensive Caddock but then realize it's 22000 count with 0.01mV resolution, not much of difference. No calibration trimpot? can be a good thing, supposedly more stable than those dreaded multiturn trimpot that keep drifted away, bad thing is you probably can't calibrate it yourself. Things I'd love is 0.001 mV resolution DC (and AC if possible), slightly faster capacitance measurement. They limit their max voltage measurements to 1000V, my mastech MY-64 survived many 1999-ish DCV with no breakdown and still going strong (it was 2000 count limited, hence 1999VDC max.). I use that voltage mostly to test MOVs & TVS.
Correct, the Cyrustek chipset is 32,000 count so its definitely held back from its full potential. UNI-T did alot of things right with this dmm. No calibration trimpot makes sense and should help with stability over the long term. The MY64 series is definitely a work horse!! Great info.. thx for your input 👍
Great review! I saw this meter on ali express about a month ago and was waiting for someone to make a video! I’m wondering if they used a 1A fuse to reduce the burden voltage on the meter. I’m curious what the voltage drop across the meter is at 200mA and whether or not the handful of ohms from a 220mA fuse would be significant. It seems like it’s an upgrade from a 61E, especially as far as input protection goes.
Hi, I'm looking some extra features on this multi-meter, as an example if you press the hold button and turn it on is it how fast and how much count it will be(previous one, has a less count, but make supper fast measurement ) what about "ripple" AC on DC? why it go on overloading when nothing connect on it? TrueRMS bandwidth? Exclusion function through the range? Because everything that you show in your video we can make by 20$ multi-meter.
AIexey, it's a standard touch hold, no delay ...unextraordinary. I would use the MIN/MAX feature to hold a reading as it will freeze the reading indefinitely. Unfortunately this clip was negated in the editing . I'm not sure what "overloading" you are referring to. It stays on dead zero with nothing connected in Voltage mode, there could be sone EMF at play on the leads if near other electrical sources but its usually very good at zeroing. Yes, AC-coupled true rms measurement is desirable when measuring small AC signals in the presence of large DC offsets. However I could not review every feature in detail as I wanted the video under 30 min. Stay tubed, there will be more on this great multimeter in the future.
Great question 🤔 Personally, I would. However, if you're happy with your existing multimeter and the new backlight, added features aren't a deal-breaker then don't. Its definitely an upgrade to the 61e but only you can decide if its worth it. The 61e is still a great multimeter and has stood the test of time.👍
Hello, what a great test. Is the D+ more for the average hobby electrician ? I am having hard time choosing, not sure if i need the extra features on the E+
Doesn't look bad at all... The speed of autoranging is good. I have several multimeters based on DTM0660 or some similar chip (UT139C, AN8008...) and while generally working fine, they are super slow in this aspect. But it costs considerably more than the classic 61E. Maybe at that price or slightly more, there is some Brymen meter with similar specifications...
Good question ...Every year I give away around 50 multimeters. Either as channel prizes, to friends..donate them to charity or add them to my collection if I'm really enamored with the multimeter! I currently have around 70 Vintage multimeters that are all new/unused that I really am crazy about! In total there's just over 300 multimeters currently in my collection 🙃 🙂
Good Job :) DMM minus : 1) smal fuse 2) very low voltage for the diode 3) NCV low sensitivity 4) no AutoHold function plus: 1) hFe 2) good leads 3) backlight constans 4) new design 5) AA battery 6) good acces fuse Summary: in My opinion - old version is better
As I recall, you were going to breakout the bubbly with a cheao meter, but you could do it anyway and buy more for later. That meter has some pro ranges and good input protection; however, the higher cost and lack of UL, CE, SA, ETL or etc puts it in questionable position. I wonder about the data link. Good review--count me in the draw.
Cheers my friend!! I was at a crossroads.. its not a CHEAP-O but its definitely shielded...stay tubed for that bubbly.. 😳👍 I was miffed about the data link..absolutely a nogo...but I'm sure I can get it going..it just shouldn't be such a chore to setup.
@@juancarlossandoval5628 Yes that's correct. However, Conformité Européenneor or products that have received the CE Mark are not automatically considered to be UL Listed. This is, in part, because some product types with the CE Mark do not have to be third-party certified and are not necessarily compliant with North American standards.
It transmits data through those LEDs so they must be Infrared. But how that IR signal gets converted into electrical signals for passing on to USB port? 🤔 ..... You should have tested and showed us the Hfe mode in video. What logic UNI-T had thought in that fuses in there?
Hi Darren, I would like to request if you can verify this, " there is no manual ranging in capacitance mode on 60+ series? I was testing the capabilities of my 61d+ there is no way I can manual range in capacitance test.
@@KeepOnTesting kinda sad,, I had found another shortcoming in capacitance test, it cannot detect short.. so when a cap is shorted it would just show OL not beep,, buzzer should sound like a buzzer sound in continuity mode once a short is present even in capacitance mode.

Would have like to have seen 18650 cells, but thats sadly not the "case" here where we still rolling with triple-As.. though better than 9v but would prefer 18650 LiIon's like we are starting to see on other DMMs / multimetertools.
dang, that's truly near to perfection! a non auto-off backlight, easy access fuse, fast continuity, and very accurate, awesome! if only Uni-T raise the diode test voltage a bit to 3.2v or so, and make the USB function easy.. i don't mind about the weak NCV in this meter, but if they can make it strong for the cheapo ones, why not do the same for this meter? but nonetheless, it's still a solid meter. 👏👏👏😃

Great review my friend. I'm confused, which one i should buy in your opinion: UT61E+ , UT191T, UT195E ???? I don't want it for heavy use, i'm not an electrician.
If you're not going to take it outdoors I'd opt for the UNI-T UT61E+..you get alot of multimeter in an extremely well made package! Second place goes to the UT191T which is a favorite of mine.. it doesn't have the resolution of the 61E+ but it's a superbly built multimeter with IP65 weatherproofing!👍 Both are great choices..

WOW..no pressue eh 😄 If I had to choose just one and I didn't need to use it outside just strictly on the bench I would opt for the UT61E+, it just impresses me more everyday. For outdoor/electrician use I would choose the UT191T as I love the smaller form factor, IP Weather proofing and independent UL/Intertek certification.👍
Friend, help me with any questions please 1 - Do you think I can use the UT61E + for bench use for external use without any problem? I am a T.I technician and I use it for repairs to motherboards, fountains, desktop etc, and sporadically home electronics, 2 - do you think I made a good choice to sell my fluke 28 II EX to keep my money in my pocket and buy this Unit? 3 - Can I exchange the 10A fuse that comes with it for a 20A fuse? If yes, how many V would be fuse? I thank you for your help now and success in your videos congratulations for the content!
Most definitely the UT61E+ is a great bench meter! High resolution and logging capabilities its hard to beat! As for selling the Fluke 28 II ex, it's a classic 👌and well built. Merry Xmas!
Is it the upgrade of UT61E?? By the way it is a cool multimeter, very well finishing. But NFC is very poor & there should be temperature range instead hFE
Yes , its the upgraded version of the UT61E. All in all a spectacular multimeter with sone shortcomings but nonetheless a worthy update! 😀
Agree. hFE is very archaic (especially when there are transistors meters for few bucks), instead there should have been a temperature measurement function.
Wow great meter n well built......Nice to see shielding n display backlight......
👍 Agreed, really impressive!
Have it on hands now. Not very well build, but okayish, in my mind.

Thanks for the review. Would be great to receive as a Christmas gift.

backlight stays on, with shielding. definitely you should open the bottle of shampagne.
Holy crap! A backlight that stays on!!!
You Got it! What a pleasant surprise ☺
Wow looks like a nice Multimeter.I love the teardown video’s.
Its a beauty..Absolutely love doing the teardowns..!
Love that they use bigger movs and ptcs,,, downside is the diode test, my 139c was able to display forward voltage drop and lit all my test leds, this one seems not so as your test shows.
The latching on that continuity test, bang on! you could knock out a tune on it..or at least a bit of morse code! Fast! The 'stays on' back light? The stuff of testing awesomeness... Christmas is a coming..Will there be a Christmas edition on this channel? A 2020 round up? The best and worse of the year? I await the official word with bated breath!! (edit)... I pause the vid near the end to write my comment..then hit play to hear you mention the Christmas day give away...nice one! Your collection of Uni-T meters is astonishing BTW... 😍😁

Agreed! Competition sure seems to be good for the multimeter biz.. 😀👍
Just love the new styling of UNI-T, wonder if there are plans for a new 181A? I have the original of this meter and has served very well. Best wishes from Northern Ireland.

@Darren Walker does this Uni-T UT61E+ gives a continuous beep in diode mode when the leads are shorted?
Negative..no continuous beep.

Hello.
What's the difference between the 191 and the 61? Which one do you suggest?
191 is geared towards offsite, outside electrical work..It has great weatherproofing and a solid build. 61 is better suited to bench electronics. Both are stellar multimeters in their own right.
Keep the meter reviews coming! Love these. This meter looks real nice. Crisp display, fast, and love how the backlight stays on.
It really is a gorgeous backlight! The UT61E+ has really grown on me and is now permanently on the bench!
Can you measure resistance with the test socket? In mine, not only the resistance measurement with the socket works
Negative, the components tester does not measure Ω ..(at least not on my unit).
@@KeepOnTesting Thanks, in my review the socket work for capacitance, diode, continuity and hfe, but not for resistance. I thought it was strange.
Hello my friend..I will verify when I get a chance...thx for the update!
Hi, just found out today,, the screw hole at the back of the 60+ and 160 dmm is compatible with camera and phone tripods/phone stand, I mounted mine on it.
That's definitely a cool idea..multimeter on a tripod.. could come in very handy !
looks like 2 IR diode for USB communication, RX & TX probably like other high end DMM?
I have a uni-t tweezer that has a dedicated zener diode mode that can light up smd led on led bulbs. Is there any multimeter that can do that?
UNI-T UT89XD, it also has a dedicated diode mode that's really powerful...one of the best for LED testing ruclips.net/video/pAovc5h12zg/видео.html
Stay tubed, there will be more on this great multimeter in the future.
it makes sense to change to this one I have ut61e without +?
Great question 🤔 Personally, I would. However, if you're happy with your existing multimeter and the new backlight, added features aren't a deal-breaker then don't. Its definitely an upgrade to the 61e but only you can decide if its worth it. The 61e is still a great multimeter and has stood the test of time.👍
Would be nice addition to my automotive tool collection. great review!
I am agrees with you that, if Uni-T replace the hFE to Temperature measuring input.
Its a good point but I think uni t will not do that since they have a model on 60+ series with temperature ang loz function its the 61d+
The first video on UT61E+. Much improved from UT61E : backlight, auto-off
You got it James..UNI-T hit a homerun with the UT61E+ ! I'm happy to be one of the first to review this great 👍 multimeter!
Hello, what a great test. Is the D+ more for the average hobby electrician ? I am having hard time choosing, not sure if i need the extra features on the E+
I would go with the E+ ...no regrets and you'll have one amazing multimeter! 👍
Since it's brand new I imagine the price will come down eventually.
Another gorgeous multimeter from UNI-T
Yes, It's a beauty 😍
What do you do with a meter when your done filming
Good question ...Every year I give away around 50 multimeters. Either as channel prizes, to friends..donate them to charity or add them to my collection if I'm really enamored with the multimeter! I currently have around 70 Vintage multimeters that are all new/unused that I really am crazy about! In total there's just over 300 multimeters currently in my collection 🙃 🙂
Good Job :)
DMM minus :
1) smal fuse
2) very low voltage for the diode
3) NCV low sensitivity
4) no AutoHold function
plus:
1) hFe
2) good leads
3) backlight constans
4) new design
5) AA battery
6) good acces fuse
Summary:
in My opinion - old version is better
New design incorporates AAA batteries. I guess time will tell how well the update is received. Thx for the input 👍
Gracias por la riwiu que valor tiene en dolares.
uhm why does this 20A meter have a 10A fuse tho?
We see this often..unfortunately. No excuses though, fuse should match it's rating.
@Schwalbe262 It shouldn't..as it's rated for 20A ...of course 20A fuses are expensive hence the cost savings (not good) measure by UNI-T 🙄
What ADC does it use? The built-in one in that microcontroller?
Yes ADC is built into the IC HC32L130 32Bit/48MHZ Cortex CPU

The 160 series are CE rated, as per uni T website
@@KeepOnTesting I want to give you a smack for that 😏.....😂😂😂
@@juancarlossandoval5628 Yes that's correct. However, Conformité Européenneor or products that have received the CE Mark are not automatically considered to be UL Listed. This is, in part, because some product types with the CE Mark do not have to be third-party certified and are not necessarily compliant with North American standards.
great review Mr. darent.
oh y
if diode mode, short probe long beep or no?
It has a 20A rating but only a 10A fuse inside? How is it possible?
Agreed, ratings should reflect the protection.
Cannot Wait TO Buy it
It transmits data through those LEDs so they must be Infrared. But how that IR signal gets converted into electrical signals for passing on to USB port? 🤔 ..... You should have tested and showed us the Hfe mode in video. What logic UNI-T had thought in that fuses in there?
Agreed, 😞 in retrospect I should have tested a transistor, would you consider the Hfe worthy of its own range on the selector?
@@KeepOnTesting I dream of it to be worth it on the selector as important as the temperature 🌡️. Don't be sad, cheer up and keep on testing!
Can the REL be stored so that it doesnt reset after powering the meter off?
Negative.
Hi Darren, I would like to request if you can verify this, " there is no manual ranging in capacitance mode on 60+ series? I was testing the capabilities of my 61d+ there is no way I can manual range in capacitance test.
Hi Juan, confirmed, No manual ranging in Capacitance mode..!
@@KeepOnTesting kinda sad,, I had found another shortcoming in capacitance test, it cannot detect short.. so when a cap is shorted it would just show OL not beep,, buzzer should sound like a buzzer sound in continuity mode once a short is present even in capacitance mode.

dang, that's truly near to perfection! a non auto-off backlight, easy access fuse, fast continuity, and very accurate, awesome! if only Uni-T raise the diode test voltage a bit to 3.2v or so, and make the USB function easy.. i don't mind about the weak NCV in this meter, but if they can make it strong for the cheapo ones, why not do the same for this meter? but nonetheless, it's still a solid meter. 👏👏👏😃
