I get emotional when I see Michelle Obama. One if the most active, influential first ladies we've ever had. Her speeches made me cry: not just because they were powerful but her heart was behind every last word of them, 110%. I miss empathy, experience, intelligence, compassion, and humanity in the white house more than I have words to express.

~Empathy ~ Trump had empathy for the American People, and members of the military and showed it often.
~ Intelligence ~ Trump is extremely intelligent, he understands how the economy works better than most economists, and he understands what parts of our foreign policy work and why and he understands what doesn’t work and why it doesn’t. To make trade deals with foreign countries, you need to understand how they conduct business, their culture and beliefs. Trump made new trade deals that were extremely fair to America and the other country(s). He was the first president in the last 100 years or so to be able to stop other countries (including allies) from taking advantage of America.
~ Compassion ~ Ask any parent that lost a child or a family that lost a military member who personally spoke to Trump (without cameras) if he is compassionate.
They have said that he was very compassionate and listened intently when they were speaking about their family member.
~Humanity ~ Trump is the first president in 50 years or so that hasn’t started a war.
~ Experience ~ Trump didn’t have Political experience, which was a good thing. Damn near every politician is corrupt.
Both political parties.
They are elected to REPRESENT us, but somehow become Millionaires while in office.
You may not like Trump, but if you honestly look at his policies and what they did for America and Americans you’d see that he was changing politics.
The politicians in DC don’t want things to change, they want “politics as usual”.
Congress proposes bills for certain industries that have lobbied them, they will then have a party or event to raise money. The politicians make money on these events. They put the bill on hold or kill it in committee and start the process all over again. This is the “political norm” in DC.
They also send aid money to other countries and use NGO’s, but somehow some of that money makes it’s way back to certain politicians who supported the bill for aid.
Trump was changing things that needed to be changed.
Our government has seriously overstepped it’s authority and has become HUGE!!!
That’s not what our Founding Fathers intended when they created our country and it goes against our Constitution.

I work in a hospital in Texas, and the number of drug overdoses and the lives that are being ruined is frightening, if 0.5% of the us budget for a wall is gonna reduce the problem by any percentage then that is hopeful, if minimum wage workers aren't gonna lose their jobs for immigrants ready to work for 4 dollars an hour then there is hope . What she said about kids being pure and that the only thing that teaches them to hate is hateful adults...it brings me to tears. I think because I know it’s so true. My little 3 year old chubby little baby girl excepted his brother for being born in the body he didn’t feel like was his without batting an eyelash or bending a full smile. I love both my babies because I have taught them it’s ok to be who they really are. They are loving, talented, humbled humans. I am extremely proud of them!!! They are my world and are the best extension or example of who I am as a person. All of us women are so much more special than we give ourselves credit for. Michelle is an amazing woman.

Yes, most hide their light under a bushel. Perhaps to not to outshine the husband. Pat Nixon was barely heard from. Why? Lady Bird did the feminine thing with wildflowers in TX. Mrs.Carter was intelligent,but we hardly heard from her. The Bush wives were presented as strong, but their views on issues that differed from the man were muted. Both were pro-choice.
What a pleasure to watch. Barack and Michelle blew us away with their class, intelligence, authenticity, poise and hope for a better world. Thank you for leaving a strong impact and legacy and for showing the world what leading with integrity looks like.
@Gursimran Dodd Thank you for your thoughts. Obama was the first President I voted for back in 2008 and we really did take him for granted. He showed the world the good that was America. Sadly Trump is showing the bad that is also found in America and we find ourselves fighting for the soul of this nation. Thankfully the last election was a rebuke of the Nationalistic bigotry and we hope that 2020 will be yet another rebuke and we will get a sane president again like Obama.
They were so good we thought there was no way we could find ourselves here now. But they are good enough still to show us that we can recover.

Wow, when Michelle spoke about 'hating from a distance' it choked me up because I remember my own experience. Many years ago my husband was stationed at Ft. Drum but we lived 32 miles away in a little town where Black people were only seen because of the military and the prison. It was harder than I ever imagined because for the first time in my life I met people that weren't afraid to show me how racist they really were. And of course I had to pretend not to see or hear it because taking in hate hurts just like spewing it on others does.
But one day a friend of mine came to me and said, "I need you and your family to come to my home. You see my father is very racist and I need him to see what Black people are really like." Talk about feeling like I needed a moment! Despite my misgivings and my fear we went. And to my surprise it was indeed one of the best experiences I had in that town. Although I was aware of the challenge I was also aware of the opportunity we were given to show one person that our differences weren't really about our colors but about the fact that we never took the time to get to know one another face to face.
(And sometime afterwards my friend told me what happened after we left. She said her father didn't expect to like us so much. I understood exactly how he felt. I didn't expect to like him either. Funny what happens when people stop being labels and start being humans.)

Thanks for sharing your story, and thank you for having an open heart and mind to what could have turned out badly, but didn't. This is so true, that hatred is much easier from a distance. I live in a small rural community that is mostly white, retirement age republicans. One young man is married to an hispanic woman and they have an adorable son. They are well-liked in the community, but very few know that she is an undocumented migrant because she came here with her Mom and siblings when she was a toddler. Her brother was deported last year, leaving behind a wife and children who are US citizens. They are not criminals, they are hard workers. They have applied for citizenship, but it's not a simple process and takes years. I know many neighbors who hate "illegals" and talk about the Central American and Mexican migrants like they are cockroaches. I wonder how many would have a change of heart if they knew their lovely, kind neighbor who is always willing to help others is "one of those illegals".

I watched interviews with Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Jame Corden, but I must say, Stephen Colbert nailed this interview with the first lady so gracefully. He asked really great questions, and kept comedy and comfort at a great level. The band played excellent music, and as a final touch, the sweet gesture of Garrett's popcorn at the end (famous popcorn shop from Chicago, most likely what she grew up with). Well done! (also, I really don't understand how anyone on this planet would hate her...she's such an inspirational, graceful and amazing person!)

I got into politics with Trump. It was the first election I remember and the first president I saw give a speech. Now looking at this and some of Barack Obama’s speeches, I wonder what I missed.
sjewitt22 the poor have themselves to count on too not just the president. They also have their state government officials and local government officials to help them. There’s also social services and job training programs. I don’t mean to be rude but I want to know what else do you want? They already have free health care through Medicaid or Medicare, they already go to college for free. They get rental assistance and gas bill assistance, cash assistance checks, food stamps. What else do you want for them? If they want a better life and they know what to do. I’ve seen many many people in my city rise from poverty through hope and discipline.
She embodies the way to defeating trump. This dignified, informed and poised optimism is the truth despite how people feel.
I could listen to her all day! She probably has enough stories to fill a week. She's funny in her own right besides being so intelligent and graceful.

Just hearing her talk; Her grace, composure, eloquence, and optimism are like soothing salves in this current toxic atmosphere of our partisanly divided country. As a german i have understandably not such a deep connection to Michelle Obama, but every time i listen to her i am very impressed and overwhelmed by the way she expresses herself. I think the world would be a much better place if she would run for office, but i really can understand why she thinks she has given enough of her lifetime for your country. What a loss for the future development of the world, that she probably won't. What an impressive woman.
