I embark on a stupid 30,000 kilometer round trip to see if I can ride my Road King harley davidson, which has been heavily modified alone from Los Angeles all the way to the Bolivia death road in Bolivia South America, I will cross two continents and have to enter 11 diffrent countries, this is an impossible task, I only speak english, and I'm riding alone.

The prodigal son returns. Never change, Danny. Even though you lost footage, you're telling a story and reminding people life sometimes can not go as planned... sometimes, you just need to enjoy the ride.
On the road again! Seriously though Danny, you need to rethink about OVER FILLING your OIL, Very much BAD!
Danny, the reason you were showing low on the dipstick was probably because your engine was sumping. The M8 oil sumping occurs when motor oil builds up in the crankcase. Sumping begins when the suction side of the oil pump does not scavenge enough oil from the crankcase. Harley began using an updated oil pump in bikes built after 5/22/19 to correct the issue. Your bike is a 2017 and is probably one of the ones affected by this. I would say, since you were on that private road, running the bike faster, for a longer distance that usual, that is what your issue was.
Didn’t he get an all new aftermarket oil pump with his up grade ?
He will be wearing most of that over fill to the oil tank shortly.....
Interesting. So I assume everything returns to normal when the bike cools down etc?
@@officialWWM during long rides and at high speed, the oil builds up in the crank case. The crank will start hitting the oil and turn it to foam. This makes it harder for the oil pump to scavenge oil and return it to the oil pan. The oil was probably foaming up when he seen the oil light come on and that is why the oil pressure was low, due to all the air mixed with the oil. Once he slowed down, the oil pump might have had time to catch up and return more oil to the oil pan, where the air started to settle out of the oil. Another sign of sumping is, excessive oil coming out of the breather bolts in the heads and into the air breather. We have seen Danny develop oil leaks here and there, especially after he has laid the bike over on it's (right) side. The oil leaks always seem to go away on their own. I would say his sumping issue isn't too severe, but I would definitely have it checked out.

Hey Danny - my way, of not losing footage. I make vlogs - not even close to as good as yours of course - and here's my routine on the road:
1. 64gig MicroSD cards are cheap. Buy about 50 of them and write 1, 2, 3, 4, etc on them with white marker.
2. Buy a 5TB drive.
3. Every day, copy the video from the used MicroSD cards onto the 5TB drive (into folders called 1, 2, 3, 4, etc)
4. Then put the used SD cards into a box. Don't erase them.
This way, you always have two copies of everything. It costs a bit to set up, but not really a great deal - and at the end of each trip you can erase the MicroSD cards and the 5TB hard drive and start again.
It gives you peace of mind, and peace of mind is valuable. It is worth the money, I promise you.
This trip looks like it made you a larger person, you are awesome mate. Do what works for you and thanks for sharing the incredible adventures.

Danny, I'm so sorry to hear about the failed hard drive and lost footage but like you said, at least it's only the first 3 days out of 44 days total. I cannot wait for this new series and am sooo excited! You have one of the best YT channels in existence and I thoroughly enjoy every single episode you put out and publish, awesome job and you must be so proud of yourself!!! On a side note, I work in I.T. and have always thought it was a bad idea having all of your footage on a single external 1TB drive and I had a feeling this was going to happen at some point or another because it's never a matter of IF a hard drive is going to fail but WHEN it's going to fail. This is CRITICALLY more important when it comes to the newer SSD (Solid State Drives) - yes they have incredible performance and are so much better in that regards however ALL of them have a FINITE lifetime consisting of only so many read/write operations and have seen them fail countless times (just in the last 5 years since they've become extremely popular). The fact is, when your external hard drive becomes your one and only location for all your video data, it is no longer considered a "backup" drive and this is where a LOT of people fail to understand. Just because the data is on a "backup drive", it doesn't mean it's safe. You ALWAYS need a second, mirrored location where a second copy of your data exists for this reason exactly and you need to make sure it's at least 4-5 times the size as the drive you're backing up from. So if you have your data on a 1TB drive, then you need a second external hard drive that's a minimum of 4TB (or larger) that you're backing everything up to. Also storing data in the cloud is NOT a backup (if it's only syncing the data locally) unless there's actually a retention period that you can restore from. Otherwise as soon as data gets deleted locally, then it's instantly deleted from the cloud so that is NOT a proper backup. Anyways, I am sure at this point you're well advised on all this but I'm sure there are many others currently making these same mistakes and if I could help prevent someone else from losing all their data, then it's worth mentioning.

hey Danny, I am so excited about this series, it means a lot to me. I smashed up my knee realy bad in 2006, full thickness tears of ACL, PCL and Medial, it was a major operation and I was in a straight brace for 18 weeks with crutches and did a further 7 months of rehab to break the scar tissue and get my knee functioning again. I hiked the inca trail in 2008, exactly 2 years from my operation. This was also my first trip overseas but it was life changing. embrace this mate. It is going to seem way more scary than Mexico in some areas but it is such a beautiful country and region and if you be real with the locals then you will be fine!!!!. Enjoy this experience and I cannot wait mate, this is going to touch my heart!!!!!! Much love x

Thanks for churning out the quality content Danny. With the hard drive failures and losing footage, a few suggestions (not sure if you have tried these):
1. Take a 2nd hard drive for redundancy so you always have 2 copies, 2. Use SSD drives for backups as they have no mechanical moving parts that will succumb to the vibrations from the type of riding you do (SSD will also read / write much quicker), 3. Regularly upload raw footage to a cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox - albeit I appreciate many of the places you go might have patchy internet speeds.
Agree with 2nd HDD for redundancy. GoPro 10+ now have feature to automatically upload video files to their cloud but it takes forever and almost impossible when using hotel wi-fi. The video files are just too big to transfer over typical hotel internet bandwidth.
Matt’s team did a great service on your bike. Sounds much better and those lights are great. Iam sure the handlebars feel more comfortable too.
I watch all your videos & you do a great job at taking us with you on your trips. I’m 76 years young & been riding over 55 years on over a hundred Harley’s dating back to my 57 pan head I’d ride cross country from Florida to Washington state & still ride 15000 miles a year.

Thats what gets me too. Fine driving on the right but things like road works that divert you to the other side of the road, well its real easy to keep going on the left if you've been raised in a LH country like NZ.

Dude - I run a photo and video production company. I told you before. Always do a double back up as a minimum. The HArd drives always fail esp if bashed about. Not matter how knackered you need to it.

Oil lights come on due to LOW OIL PRESSURE which could be your low on oil but could also be something more serious in the engine. Hopefully it was just low oil.
