They recently updated the rollei carbon and on the one i got it's possible to drop (and reverse) the center collumn. You see the difference as there's less orange on the current model and the padding o nthe legs is different
Thank you so much for this video , you saved my time and money. Im looking a tripod for a hiking, cycling . I have Manfrotto 055 pro old one. It's good but big ang heavy. I could accept something little heavier to getting better stability, but less then my Manfrotto. Something between 1.2 -1.5 kg any recommendation ? Regards
Hi there - I have the exact same tripod (compact traveler no1) but in aluminum and can confirm that the center column does indeed drop. I did struggle at first but later got the hang of it (twist) and then thereafter it was much easier to drop. Pls double check and let me know as I’m about to upgrade my tripod for the carbon fiber.
I already returned it. Based on my experience there's no way of dropping the center column. I tried hard and despite my efforts I couldn't find a way. There is no twisting mechanism to turn
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography It looks it is. But also bigger as well a little bit . And unfortunately more expensive as well. www.benroeu.com/products/benro-fta29cv1.aspx
There are new models around. I ended up buying a Sirui A-1205. Pricey, a little bit bigger, but far more stable. At least at a first glance... I just bought it
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography Nice! I decided to try the Neewer Camera Tripod Monopod Carbon Fiber with Rotatable Center Column, hopefully I'll like it. But, like you, I'll test it prior to getting it dirty in case I need to return it. I lso ordered the Benro 3-Way Geared Head, should be perfect for landscapes!

I don't doubt it but it's really really expensive. I recently reviewed the Sirui A-1205, it's way less expensive and I found it really effective. You may wanna give a look at it

@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I appreciate Luca that around £600 seems like a lot of money for a hobbyist, but if you consider how much we pay for our cameras and lenses, and that this is a capital piece of equipment that will last a lifetime (although you may upgrade your cameras and lenses) I learned many years ago that there's a big difference between the best value for money and the best.

Tripod reviews are really interesting (at least for me). It seems to be very personal what one reviewer likes another dislikes (and vice versa). There is an other model of the Benro slim carbon TSL08CN00 (which has only 4 leg segments compared to the 5 on the 09 model). However with the ballhead there is a disagreement. One reviewer said it's fine for small and mirrorless cameras other like you really hate this ballhead! I guess you could replace the ballhead wiht another one. But then you'll lose some of the weight advantage of this light weight travel tripod. As others have already mentioned Rollei seemed to have changed its compact traveler No.1 ... I'm still looking for a light weight travel tripod. (I have the Rollei C5i but this is not nearly as light weight as the compact traveler No.1 or the Benro slim carbon. Interesting for me looks the Rollei CT-5C for it's versatility but it's even heavier than the C5i ... For more stability I also own the Rollei Rock Solid Beta Mark II which made an excellent impression on me. However with about 2.2 kg it's no longer light weight! :( For wildlife I have the Rollei Rock Solid Alpha XL Mark II in mind with a Benro GH2 gimbal which seems to be an amazing combination.
that is the kind of review I wish to see. Honest and detail. thank you.
Thank you for letting me know
I think Rollei must have updated this. The centre column on mine does go down, so no height issue for me. Great review video.
Thanks! I haven't tried the new model. I bought a Sirui A-1205. Check my review out
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I will. Also, the Rollei can adapt to a monopod - ideal for an extended support for my DJI Osmo Pocket
@@digitaliphotography my new Rollei also doesnt have an issue with the centre column anymore. Could I ask, how do you adapt it to a monopod?
@@bonitaliu1030 One of the legs unscrews and you screw part of the centre column on to that.
Completely of topic, you look so much like John turturro from the big Lebowski.
Good video as well 😉👍
thanks, I learn some things, very useful !
Happy to hear that
Rollei a bowling bal imirite?
Thanks for the nice review. There's been some (too many!) reports about the poor durability of the Benro. What's been your experience?
I can't say that much about it. I only used it for a couple of weeks, so I couldn't test the durability
Very informative! Thanks

Nice Video. Isnt it possible to swap the head on the benro for a better one ? I have seen that this works on comparable benro tripods

ricoh carbon works this way too
Great testing....Thank You
Thank you for watching my video!
How heavy were the camera body and lens you used for your tests?
I don't remember the weight, it was the xt-20 with a lightweight lens, I'd say way less than one kilo
great video, perhaps in the first part a bit more of light was needed, but really interesting and well done
Thx for the video. Now I know I have to buy the bigger brother of that Benro. That is the Benro iFOTO FIF28CIB2.

Yes, as far as I remember yes.
I already returned both so I can't be 100% sure about that
