- Driven by Roland Luger in selected Hillclimb Racing events and on Historic Cup races, this Monster is powered by a Naturally Aspirated Inline 6 cylinder engine with 3.8 litres capable of over 500Hp/8.000Rpm.
This is an evolved version specially adapted for Hillclimb Racing of the 1993 DTM-spec Omega Evo 500. While only producing 440Hp on that period because of the series regulations, no such limitations are present on the Austrian Bergrennen series where this Orange beast was mostly raced on recent years.
Straight from the Golden Era of Touring Car racing and most particularly DTM (which sees its current existance seriously threatened by now with Mercedes leaving the roster in favour of Formula E) comes one of the most mechanically awesome machines ever raced. And capable of leaving its mark on Hillclimb Racing too..

my stepdad had an ex cop undercover car. vauxhall omega. it was fast as hell.
I also owned an ex police unmarked omega elite, very quick for what they are. Sold it last year though :(

The engineer the engine dont Last that Long If you Go full rpm. Same for BMW m3s .
if the factory stroke of the 69.8 piston had remained, it would have been able to develop 10-11k rpm, but it was increased for the sake of increasing volume and increasing power.
Sound alone is enough to make every petrolhead smile.Seems tough to tame,but driver managed to somehow control it.

@@nismo3871 no, not really. there was a dtm homologation Omega named Omega Evolution, and the bodykit is the same. 3.0 liter forged engine built by irmscher

Is that a recent event?
I'm a big fan of Roland Luger and that project of restoring a DTM car. And the most recent event he appeared on RUclips took place around 2014 or so. And it was a Hill climb just like that.
Glad I it was in 2019, if the case.
This is from Naas Hillclimb in 2012 and the footage is pretty much uploaded from the video that you have seen ( it was from a Channel that nowadays was abandoned and its owner is a collaborator of ours 😉 ). The final clip with the engine revving was added and let´s say this a little reminder of a great Monster that we love and that has a chance to return this year 💪
It's been a few years that k have seen the videos, but I never forgot them. Thank you for the upload and for the feedback. Really hope that monster roars again.

It needs a better driver or some handling tweaks. Either way it made for a great short video and I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through 👌🏼👌🏼

beautifully shaped car, I doubt its running an actual Opel engine though if its a straight 6
you can see the engine at the dino pull at the end of the video. it is obviously heavily modified (ignition, injection, ...) , but it actually is an opel engine (c30se).
Its an opel Engine. The Opel Lotus Omega was a 3.0L inline 6 powerhouse. German Muscle car basically.

The c30se is a inline 6, not a v6. This is a evo 500 not a lotus Omega and the lotus omega had the c36get engine.
It is pure Opel engine from C series adopted for DTM :)

@Almerich !Dritter Weltkrieg - Banken-Endsieg! It looks more like driver decision cuz he is not trying to release throttle during exits. I bet he wasnt going for time, just for fun. With LSD on rear its very rough comparing to computerized TC. On the other hand, that fat 3.9L bitch was prone for understeer, so it could be more like trying to perform oversteer than wait for understeer.
@@VoidSixx basically no 500whp rwd car from the 90's and below could effectively avoid sliding on corners. maybe only those with extreme downforce like F1 cars...

Just curious how well police cars would fare in a chase class event. Active police interceptors or cruisers against these cars. And police can modify too but only use police model cars.

its a vauxhall/opel engine straight 6 inline 4.0 very few were made for road, road going ones pushed around 300 bhp, this is NOT a 3.0 litre

I have a base model omega A, never understeers - asphalt, snow, ice, gravel, what ever. That's because the rear has no grip, so it will just get sideways h

Yes and no... just the outer shell, different engines, different gearboxes, driveshafts, Opel has an advanced IRS (called dsa+) instead off a live axle.
The straight 6 in this, is in it's physical size bigger than a ford barra and even as a 4.0 still short stroke ...

Hillclimb cars are usually tuned for maximum balance and grip while keeping the weight down. This looks like a race engine strapped to a base car. No hate for Omega but it wasn't at all successful in DTM back then. Like the E30 M3 and 190E 80's heros dominance begin to fade with the end of development
