    I considered the 8 over the 8a, as there was only a £70 price difference from Google, but when it came to trading in my Pixel 6, that difference went up to £170. So, for the 7 years of updates, the 8a at £230 seemed like the most economical choice, as well as the upgrades from the Pixel 6 (whose OS updates come to an end, this year).

    I normally get the "budget" phones but last time I upgraded I got pixel 7 thinking I would like the "premium" glass back. Turns out I like how it looks but it feels too slippery, smudges easily and I'm constantly afraid of scratching or cracking it. Once I get some extra money in the budget I'm going to try putting a skin on it to fix that. But now I know that even though premium material looks cool on a display, a "cheap" quality material feels better to hold and makes you feel less like you're carrying a delicate piece of china in your pocket.

    I have just purchased the 8A, maybe a wrong decision but here is my logic.
    Best deal I could find the 8 from a reputable company in the UK (BNIB) was £428.40 - actually cheaper than the 8A RRP and a great deal - so why go for the 8A?
    Well…a £10 eBay purchase of an old phone to trade could net me £210 from Google in a trade in deal - so the phone 8A was then £299.99 saving me £128 on the best 8 deal…. this made it a harder choice as I liked the fact I could pick it up for under £300.
    Factoring in the fact I get a 10% store credit from Google I get a nice £50 in that pot for a future purchase.
    All in all saving £128, get this for sub £300 (SIM free and with no contacts) and with a £50 store credit, that was enough for me personally to shoot for the A.

    I just picked up the pixel 8a and I actually like better than the 8. I don't care for glass back. My Pixel 3 had that it wasn't good, when a car crashed into my while cycling. So no more glass backs on cell phones for me. For my uses, and I do daily on the phone, 8a is a perfect match with a reasonable price point that doesn't kill my pocket book, considering the 7 years of updates
    Overall, I am deeply impressed with this phone compared to my previous Pixel 5. This is my fourth pixel phone. My first one was the pixel xl, pixel 3 and then pixel 5 and now the 8a.
    The pixel 3 after my bike crash still worked with a few glitches here and there. The front screen didn't crack but the case was bent and the top edge was opened up and the glass back shattered. Due to my experience with the pixel 3 I am always indebted the pixel strength and build quality overall!!!! Go Pixel!

    • @rythmater
      @rythmater 16 дней назад +1

      It uses the same Tensor G3 as in the 8 and 8 pro. The only difference right now for picking up a Pixel 8a over the base model (excluding software support) would be the fact that it runs an outdated variant of Android 14 QPR1 (it will be most likely merged with the other devices when QPR3 comes around) that doesn't feature the latest improvements and fixes. And besides the security drawback of using an outdated quarterly release, it should mean nothing to normal users from a usability standpoint.

    Google should’ve used the same type of back material on the 8a as they did on the 6a. Glass is too easily broken and the 6a’s plastic felt like glass without being glass. And what’s up with grown people crying over the bezels? If you don’t want bezels then spend way more money on phones that don’t have bezels but don’t perform much better. Or, do like most average users do and put a damn case on the phone. I guarantee you, the bezels won’t affect performance in the least bit. Lastly, I understand the economy is inflating prices but Google has gotten ridiculous with their increasing costs. Even with the new upgrades like 2,000 nits with 120 Hz and wireless charging, the price of the 8a should’ve been $349 or $399 max. At this rate, Google will either have to kill the A series of Pixels or drastically reduce their prices.
