Hello Khristian, Good to hear about your soccer playing. Also, nice to hear you talk about the music scene in Australia/Melbourne. Nice to be able to hear this kind of info here in the states. Loved seeing 'Junkyard' by Birthday Party. I have not seen this album in a long time. > Thanks for introducing me to these artists/albums. Jammed packed with info. I am going to check out some of these tonight. Onto part two. Thanks K~ Rob/Boston
+Paneeks1960 Hey Rob. Thanks for watching the video mate. I know its a lengthy one but i tried to keep it as concise as possible:-). Im stoked you know and like the Junkyard record. Its wonderfully dark and weird but i love it. One of the bands from my youth. Glad you liked the video mate and i hope you find something you can sink your teeth into. Take care mate! Peace - Khristian
Hi Khristian, this video is fantastic. The education is just great, and exactly what we need to see and hear. It is so cool to watch these type of vids, great knowledge. AS you talked about the bands, I looked them up on YT and listened to them....you were spot on. I am going to be looking at these bands some more (I guess that is the best compliment you can get). Cheers mate, and will check PT2, Steve
Hi, Khristian. It was ineteresting to hear you talk about the formation and stages of the music scene. I was wondering if the Moodists would get featured here. Haven't seen anyone talk or show their records in VC yet, don't know why. I have that record and love listening to That's Frankie's Negative and Runaway. Such amazing tracks. The rest of the album didn't leave me as strong of an impression, but maybe I need to listen to it more and let it sink in. Great video. I look forward to part 2. -Birutė
+juodaavis Hey Birutė! Thanks heaps for watching this video. I wasn't sure that posting such a lengthy video was going to attract any viewers at all so Im thankful someone out there watched it. haha! I hope everything is going well in your world:-) Wow! I'm positively surprised you have The Moodists record. I wouldnt have believed it was that well known outside of Australia. But there you go! - I'm with you. There's a few great tracks but as an entire thing its not an easy listen. Its pretty dark and vicious. I posted it here more for the bands significance here in Melbourne. I have the EP entitled 'Double Life' from 1985, which i recommend more so than the LP. Im just uploading Part 2 now (these take awhile on my internet connection:-) Take care! - Khristian
Well, I don't think it's known here in my side of the pond. I actually stumbled upon it while I was browsing what else the online seller had to offer, didn't know a thing about it. But it looked interesting and the tracks I could find on youtube sounded great, so I ordered it. I do think they deserve more attention. I'll see if I can get my hands on 'Double Life' EP, thanks. Take care.
Excellent insight into the local scene, great musical development going on there. The Birthday Party are a big missing space in my collection, always pricey in the wild here.
This was brilliant, mate. I was not familiar with Hunters & Collectors but will be looking further into that album. Looking forward to more posts on Melbourne music.
+bostonianreggie Hey mate! Cool. Im glad you found something on here you liked. This H&C and one other 'Jaws of Life' are the only ones I recommend. The rest is fairly commercial sounding Aussie rock. Though still iconic, nowhere near as interesting in my opinion. Ill keep a look out for a decent copy if you like mate! - Khristian
Great overview of Melbourne's music history! What a thing if more people in the vc did this sort of video celebrating their home town's achievements...I have to confess, I don't even know enough about the history of my own to feel too comfortable attempting what you have done here. Not much I'm familiar with outside of Hunters & Collectors (and even that only by name I believe) but interesting nonetheless, cheers!
+Doug A. Hey Doug, Thank you man.Its a great way to learn and celebrate your local scenes i guess. Which i really enjoy doing. Hope you found something liked here mate. Cheers - Khristian
Oh Yeah, I just love that junkyard album, there is nothing like it. The Hunters & Collectors were one of THE bands for me and my mates in high school, I just love that first album and their second, The Jaws Of Life ,was pretty good too before they hit it big. Talking to a Stranger was their second release after the World of Stone EP from 1981. I did actually see them live maybe the start of 1985, when they played at the University of Canterbury, Unfortunately they appeared to be having a bad night and I thought the gig was so bad that I went upstairs to the student bar, ran into an old school mate and proceeded to get totally plastered.
+Roddus1000 Hey mate:-) wow! Would've liked to have seen the H&C in their day. Alas in 85 i was 7 years old:-) Im glad you liked the video. The Junkyard is fantastic. One of my fav's but i must admit, i have almost everything Nick Cave and his various line ups have ever put out so I'm a little biased Thanks for watching man! Cheers - Khristian
+ChampSound Haha! Yes you're right. I did know that but for some strange reason i had it in my mind that they had shut down because i remember going to a farewell thing they had a while back. It must have been the merger. However, as i woke up this morning i read that it is now 'officially' being closed for good. Very sad. Thanks for watching the video mater. Looking forward to catching up at the next fair. You in?
On a serious note, very interesting showing here. Looking forward to delving into and finding out more. Thanks for sharing, K.
+Ben Costello
Cheers Ben. I know its a lengthy video, but i felt an urge to celebrate Melbourne in a proper way.
Thanks mate.

Thanks a lot for the feedback mate! I really appreciate that.
Cheers.
Mushroom Records did so much for local music at that time. Michael was a visionary.

Fred's sent me that hunters & collectors lp, just brilliant!
+Chris4127basket
Yep its a beauty:-)
I sold my OG Cybotron when i had to purge. I think i lost a little piece of my soul that day. But i got the reissue and very happy with it.
+Anthony Camplone
Those Reissues are pretty nice I hear. But yes that would have been a sad day indeed!

Hey mate! Yeah! Pretty pricey now over here too. But I'm lucky to have bought them early on. We worthwhile though!
Another very good video.

+Siren05 And i would have liked to have seen H &C on a better night.
Amazing summary mate! Loved it. Missing Link joined forces with Collector's Corner and is on Bourke St now?

I see what you were saying about everything is "pink". I think it looks better. Less "smokey". Hahahaha
