One of Metals' greatest frontmen. Took longer than it should have for the recognition he deserved. At 54, I've seen him just go for 25 years. Finally. Finally being recognized for what he is. Old school, og, straight up metal. He's up there with the legends and deserves it.
Man, I remember 1999-2000 when Mudvayne and Slipknot first exploded, and I preferred LD.50 over the Slipknot self-titled. I was 17 years old, and heard Slipknot first....and I LOVED it. But LD.50 was a different animal. Still rock them both.

I hate where the music industry has gone. Forcing my favorite bands to just write one song at a time. Also, knowing where Chad’s head is at with what his favorite Mudvayne material is disheartening because now i know the new Mudvayne stuff won’t be what i was hoping for. LD 50 is objectively a masterpiece. Even the mix. The fact that their writing process was ideas thrown together is what made their sound soooo cool. The more polished they became in their song writing, the less interesting their songs became to me. I love all their records , I really do. But nothing they did comes close to LD 50.
It's too fast and easy ( with the right fanbase and marketing) to make money song by song. Respect to the musicians who still make cohesive lp and ep projects.
I absolutely love mudvayne probably my all time fave, but I can say i have never listen to a single track after lost and found ( which was honestly not great as it is) I’ve briefly listened to tracks like the new game but couldn’t make it thru 20 seconds it seems like ld50 was so amazing but the end of all things to come couldn’t replicate that sound- however- it was still AH-MA-ZING I really love that second album so much. So weird.

I really hope Chad will listen to the fans when writing the new material. There is a reason we all love LD50 and why it sold so many copies and we always want to hear songs from that album at their shows. I hope they will look to that album when trying to recreate what makes Mudvayne awesome.

Been a fan of mudvayne since i was a kid. Chad is such a great person. Talking about how difficult songs are to perform, Chad does a fantastic job with Mudvayne. Thank you Chad. Much respect. Thanks for the podcast!
Such a pity hearing him expressing himself like that about LD50, which indeed is the most appreciated and regarded album by the fans and the one that is actually keeping them coming back in the memory of the fans after this long hiatus. With all due respect, Chad, nobody cares about the washed off rock-pop song writing that you wanted with the latest albums, people wants the uniqueness you had, the unique blend of styles and techniques of 4 highly skilled individuals, really nobody wants another 'chevelle' sounding record and that is actually what your demise was back in the day, the further you were from LD50 the less memorable you become. From a hardcore fan who still praises LD50 as one of the best albums ever written in metal.
Cold White Christ! I remember listening to a demo of what you guys were working on with Tom and Tommy on Nothingface's bus back in '03. I was so looking forward to that project, hope it comes to light!
I fucking love Chad, Gray and amazing talent Mudvayne. I love everything about you guys. I hope you guys do this for a long time and please if this works out don’t take another 13 years off either way it’s nice to see you you guys back together.
Interesting talk on albums vs singles towards the end there. I can't help but disagree with some of it though, there was a sense of discovery when it came to listening to a new album. You might've heard the singles which were good for the masses and getting your name out there, but the deep tracks are what made the listening experience special to me. Plus, having more tracks leads to more expression from the artists, you can explore different sounds and themes. Albums just lend themselves to being more personalized and special to me and I'm sad to hear Chad leaning away from that. Granted, he's done his time and made those special albums, it's just a tradition I'd like to hold on to. Great talk though 🤘
i was at one of their Slipknot tours in @99 or 2000. The lineup was Mudvayne, Disturbed, Linkin Park and then Slipknot. Was a great show. People that had pre purchased tickets had to wait in a 2 hour long line and many missed Mudvayne. I didn't have a ticket. So, I walked right up, bought one and walked right in and avoided that line. It was a great concert.
Daaamn good interview! 22 years ago when I was 12, my guitar teacher showed me a Mudvayne video from Ozzfest.. At that moment, I didn't realize that they would become one of my favorite bands, even in 2024.
Awesome interview. I got to pay my respects to Mudvayne at the Sydney show a few weeks back. It's really cool to hear Chad speak about other bands albums and loving them the same as myself. And I couldn't agree more about the Pantera shows
L.D. 50 will always be my favorite Mudvayne album and I say is their best sounding one. That is crazy to hear him say that. That is the Mudvayne sound to me
man these are the stories im glad to hear chad telling, the stuff like hellyeah doing only rehearsal and it was in vinnys bedroom in vegas, its the shit you dont hear every day and its all these little stories that are so important to keep the boys spirits alive and well! r.i.p Dime
Chad you are amazing vocalists. Mudvayne itself is the metal that brought me to life. I had the opportunity to see Mudvayne in Tacoma WA and you were opening for Korn.
New Subscriber here Jesea... Great interview Man, and Thank You for sharing 🙏🏾💯🤘🏾 Chad!!! Thank You for all the Years of inspiration in the craft 💯❤️🤘🏾
It’s always nice to hear Chad’s “no fucks given” expressiveness. That being said, I personally thought they put the bass way too low in the mix for every other album and the guitar became the prominent instrument heard in later albums. I couldn’t even hear the bass in later albums for certain parts, but I could always hear the guitar in LD 50, so there can always be a good balance. Around lost and found is when I started to notice the guitarist start to cement themselves with specific keys/scales and there was some music magic lost that they had when both stringed instruments were not tied down to a specific role. Still love the band, just my opinion.
Chad, there are a lot of us Pantera fans that did follow VP over to the Damageplan and Hellyeah team. I loved anything that Dime and VP did. I have seen Hellyeah about 6 or 7 times, and love pretty much everything you guys turned out. I also went to the NH show of Pantera in 2023. I am still a HUGE Pantera fan, and I never got to see them in the 90's for one reason or another, so this was my only chance to hear their music live and I'm glad I did. Do I wish it was the original lineup, YES... but it was a great time and they sounded great, and like you said... it was like I was 18 years old again!
❤Chad. So hott. Wish he would do more interviews. Thanks for this interview it was most def. Needed. Im a vet with this music, in my thirties now itso so wild to see the trajectory over time of bands like hell yeah, and mudvayne and the genre in general. Now, there is a whole new younger generation of fans that are children of the people my age. Its def. a mixed bag of fans. Im still so excited for the comeback because they still got it. Love experiencing the nostalgia but also the new shit. Its like a family reunion. I feel the need to address the backtrack topic. Save that shit and audiotune for the pop world, it doesnt belong in the metal and rock world. Thats the world that thrives in authenticity, music from the core, the soul. Chad is a fucking beast, its a major insult for him to ever do back tracks. Its not necessary when you have the actual talent,. I really wish they would do a new album, Mudvayne we need you. Hell yeah as well. Just do it do the new albums. The well has run dry . Go big or go home. It doesnt need to be the old version , it can be the revitalized version. Anyway, im here for it all of it. Loving it.
For my 14th or 15th bday my parents took me to the mall I found LD50 and that was my bday present. Zero regrets. Also picked up a KoRn album then too. Long live mudvayne
This was a great interview, you did a good job getting in and out with talking on LD50 and new music without pounding Chad with it to much, I wish they wouldn’t be over thinking what direction they want to go, it’s metal music, you don’t over think it, you just jam and create with your band, I wish also he would just focus on Mudvayne, we wouldn’t probably even know who Chad is if it wasn’t for Mudvayne, as a bass player who considers Ryan my favorite bass player I know that’s where Ryan wants to be, and it’s where his Fans want to see him,
LD.50 was the album that got me hooked on Mudvayne!!!!!! I was hoping for years they would get back together! One thing that was soooooo rad was when they was on a late night show and played the song “Dig” and Chads scream on that tv screen was so f’nnnnnnnn RAD!!!!!! You gotta see that! Awesome interview and I subbed!!! Cheers!🎸🎸
Hey my Brother this is a great interview. So I toured in early 2000’s. Motograter OZZfest in 2003. I live 2 miles from Jonathan Davis. But Mudvayne was my favorite. I’m trying to get some new things happening
I think a Damage Plan reunion would be amazing. One tour with guest guitarists and drummers playing. New Found Power was an Amazing album. Thank God for Muvaynes return.
I had mudvayne tickets but they were playing with disturbed. The singer David said it was too cold to play and they canceled the show. Never had another chance I was 16 and I’m 37 now
The simple fact Chad was able to get the boys to commit to a tour after 14 years, speaks volumes on getting back together. And now a se and tour with megadeth is really showing intrest. Cmon boys get to writing and get after it
I'll never forget Dime and Vinnie that said people love the sound. Zack and Charlie are great repayments. They both knew the men as well. Do I have to get a time machine to listen to Pantera live. Wtf
Mudvayne was one of the first few metal bands i cut my teeth to. Metallica was the very first. But the summer before my Freshman year, 2001, i was 14 staying a couple weeks at my grandmas, very close with her, just like chad was with his, late night mtv2 when it was still good, saw 3 music videos back to back to back. Slipknots Left Behind, Mudvaynes Dig, and Korns ADIDAS. From then on, i was addicted. Still am. Long Live the Vayne! 🤘
Chad I was lucky enough to meet you back when Hellyeah just came out and it was nuts like every show. Was lucky enough to take my son to see Mudvayne cuz it was my our first show together and it kicked ass!!! Make some new shit🤘
My only paid video watching platform is RUclips, And I use it primarily for music while at work. While at home and any down time i miraculously have, I typically do interviews such as this one. But I'm mostly listening as opposed to watching. However, this interview I literally sat down through the whole thing and watched it because this is my second interview with Chad Gray, the first one being with Rockfeed as he was putting his makeup on right before a show (which by the way was really cool of him to do) and on a no homo level, I love this dude, man. He's just like the rest of us metal heads out here grinding and trying to get through this bullshit thing we call life. He speaks like us he thinks like us and he even curses like us. What's not the love about this guy? And lets not forget about that unique set of chops he is blessed with. I cant get enough of that gutteral cacophony that i wish i could produce even a fraction of! Sir Jesea, i just met you tonight, and not only am i becoming a new subscriber, I'm placing u in the small amount channels i have that audibly notify me of new content. Chad, if you're seeing this, i think i speak for pretty much everyone who lives their life the way we do, with metal playng somewhere in the background as our theme music in our day to day, go ape shit and impregnate as many willing women as you physically can, bc this harsh world needs more like you!!! Rock on my brothers! 💪🤘✌️
Great interview and im glad i saw the orginal pantera once and i get both vinne and band for keep going its a tough one....and i personally loved hell yeah great band and glad mudwayne is back another great band
@@LeadMe2TheBliss I say them in 2000 in copenhagen great show and a 5 hour night ride home after the show.😅but glad i got to see them with dime and vinnie
Chad my dude L.D. 50 is the mudvayne sound through each album after L.D.50 that sound became less and less not saying they are bad albums. My favorite still being, The End Of All Things To Come which was my first record which i listened and grew up with. So when i finally came around to listen to L.D.50 i was blown away by the sheer awesomeness of this record i would categorize it as Progressive Nu Metal .To me L.D 50 Sounded more mudvayne than the rest of the albums that came after Anyway i can't wait for the new material which i'm pretty stoked for.
Having seen Pantera a couple times back in the day towards their end, it’s hard to watch Phil move around the way he does, the scream isn’t as brutal due to age and time, and knowing how VP felt about it regardless if he’s right or not, they probably should’ve just have done a couple shows and called it good. It is awesome to see Mudvayne doing their thing again and can’t wait to see how heavy the new shit will be.
This is so bad ass you did this my very first concert was the merry mayhem tour in 99 at the hscb arena in Buffalo with Ozzy rob zombie soil and of course mudvayne me and my buddy have chad and gregs autograph on a dollar bill we stayed at the same hotel as them and just so happened to eat at the same time in the restaurant no one else recognized them because they didn't have the paint on so me and my buddy made our move and all we had was the dollar bill to sign those two even back then were chill as fuck about it just good dudes making bad ass music
When I seen mudvayne it was either in NJ or Rhode Island he had a monkey suit on in did at least a good ten foot jump off a platform to start the show I got a little excited I must admit
Sad to hear that they are going to only put out one or two songs at a time. I know I'm a Gen X'er but I hate hearing one song. I like it when an album comes out. Same way that we digest series on Netflix or whatever. Put out a season and let us binge watch it. I want to binge listen! If the song is great, I want to hear more song after song.
I can see where Chad's coming from with regards to LD 50 and their future trajectory but for the life of me I can't understand his admiration for The New Game. Sure there were some interesting time signatures and melodies but it felt like a long Hellyeah hangover. Also, I don't know why Lost and Found isn't referenced more, that was their peak creatively.
New Mudvane Music 🎶 Hell Ya in 2024 Why not a Album What???? Come on Chad Grey Make another Mudvane Record I'm a Big Mudvane Fan Awesome Video of Chad Grey of both Mudvane and Hell Ya ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💯💯💯💯💯🤘🤘🤘
56:22 I disagree if it’s a band I like I listen to the whole album at least once! Still agree though just do what you do. It will work out or not but you paved your own path.
All work, no play makes me a dull boy…. I never got to see Pantera with Dime and Vinnie. I don’t want to see Pantera now. Those guys were a huge part of what made them sound like that. That’s my opinion on the matter. Don’t get me wrong Charlie and Zakk are amazing players but they’re not Vinnie and Dime.
@@GaryKing-x2l Your lack of grammar shows your peak of intelligence. Of course they are doing it for the money lol…it’s called a JOB…they are ENTERING. Dime was a good guitarist ….but Zak is very good in his own right. Enjoy it for what it is. If not the quit bitching and don’t listen to it or comment on it.
Vinnie was kinda selfish...he forgot he was 1/4 of Pantera. Pantera is Phil and Rex's band just ad much as it was the brother's. The tribute is great because it brings pantera to a new audience and keeps the legacy alive. A bit dismissive or Chad imo
The question is: will the masses be interested in songs from the band like Mudvayne? Because the core fans more likely would appreciate a full album. At the other hand in the context of fans not appreciating the last two albums, I kind of understand Chad.
The entire "Pantera" show is literally pretty much paying homage to Dime and Vinnie. It's almost like they are there. The Abbott estate gave Phil and Rex the green light. It is what it is. I never thought it would happen. But I'm excited to see it and celebrate the band, the music, and the brothers. It's being done with integrity. Definitely doing new music and calling it Pantera should not even be considered. I could see maybe the tour continues for maybe another year or so. Then shut it down. Before it loses it's shine.
Ld 50 I wasn't impressed with all the old slip knot sh!t did it for me in saying that this is one of my favorite bands and Chad is is one of my favorite artist hail Shadows fall

I run and lift to Hellyeah and Mudvane. Love it forever. ZAKK RULES. God bless
This is such a badass interview with Chad! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Oh mudvayne is making a comeback I remember when they had that one song called dig That's a classic 🔥🎸🥁🔥
End of all things and new game are still my favorite albums of all time . Not just mudvayne albums but of all time from any bands
This is so good. I've been metalhead all my life. I remember when mudvayne came out. Absolutely love Chad Gray
He’s not wrong. I’m 24 and I’m so fucking stoked to see these dudes for the first time!
24wow. Welcome to the family.
Cold White Christ! I remember listening to a demo of what you guys were working on with Tom and Tommy on Nothingface's bus back in '03. I was so looking forward to that project, hope it comes to light!
I fucking love mudvayne.
Love the fact that Chad has a Kyle Turley jersey on the wall behind him. New Orleans born and raised here. Saints represent!!!!
People talk about records and remember records not singles. I agree.
Agree just release 1-3 songs then release the album people will still buy albums
i was at one of their Slipknot tours in @99 or 2000.
That's one hell of a lineup. I've not heard many lineups that didn't have at least one band in it that I never listened to.
I'm going to see them in Grantville can't wait for that. I didn't realize it's just a 5 show run this time around
Thanks for watching!
Chad bro man the love is clear for vinne I am big fan of all of them props for keeping it simple and thoughtful answer
Congrats brother! Love mudvayne and your music , had a print out on my agenda in 2002! Love you brother
That's awesome, dude!
I think a Damage Plan reunion would be amazing. One tour with guest guitarists and drummers playing. New Found Power was an Amazing album. Thank God for Muvaynes return.
I really enjoyed the STAMPEDE record.
Would love to see a live dvd of their past two tours, they sound great and looked great!!!!
Wtf
Chad bro put down the bottle. I love you.
I agree with Chad, The New Game is an amazing album, the song writing is incredible!
Thank you for this man I’m 37. Took me a bit to warm up to hell yeah because I’m such a huge mudvayne fan. I got there eventually tho
I'm the same age here. I still bump the old school shit until the day I die and beyond. Moth by hell yeah, aw 💕 love it, loving this comeback,.❤Chad
I'll see you in Grand Rapids next month! It's been 3 years!
Great interview!
Thank you for checking it out!
I'm so happy for you, Jesea. I hope your guest list continues to be amazing.
Thanks! As do I, haha. Appreciate you watching
Chad I was lucky enough to meet you back when Hellyeah just came out and it was nuts like every show. Was lucky enough to take my son to see Mudvayne cuz it was my our first show together and it kicked ass!!! Make some new shit🤘
55:03 I remember trying to tell my home boy that same thing as that was gonna be my work ethic if I ever got around to going for it.
Chad is one of my favorite voices In metal
Great interview and im glad i saw the orginal pantera once and i get both vinne and band for keep going its a tough one....and i personally loved hell yeah great band and glad mudwayne is back another great band
I only saw Pantera live once too @ Ozzfest 2000.
LD 50 is great, but Lost & Found is my favorite Mudvayne album!
Great interview. But really wish mudvayne would play forget to remember live. It is such a badass song
Been to 7 HELLYEAH 🤘 concerts , Chad Gray is the Best 😎 miss VP & DIME
The Freddy vs. Jason Soundtrack was the gateway back in elementary.
Mudvayne is our own little private beach. We dont many people knowing , get to keep to ourselves.
I also think Zack and Charlie would blow your mind on a tribute album. I digress.
Great interview man
wow he nailed it “fountain of youth” when yur on the floor
Man, Chad just went off in this interview lol.
"All work and no play makes me a dull boy!"
51:40 great insight and tips
When I seen mudvayne it was either in NJ or Rhode Island he had a monkey suit on in did at least a good ten foot jump off a platform to start the show I got a little excited I must admit
Sad to hear that they are going to only put out one or two songs at a time. I know I'm a Gen X'er but I hate hearing one song. I like it when an album comes out. Same way that we digest series on Netflix or whatever. Put out a season and let us binge watch it. I want to binge listen! If the song is great, I want to hear more song after song.
IM 35 SO MUDVAYNE WAS MY ABSOLUTE FUCKING JAM. SADLY I HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM IN CONCERT
There still can jam their stuff never got play
I can see where Chad's coming from with regards to LD 50 and their future trajectory but for the life of me I can't understand his admiration for The New Game. Sure there were some interesting time signatures and melodies but it felt like a long Hellyeah hangover. Also, I don't know why Lost and Found isn't referenced more, that was their peak creatively.
New Mudvane Music 🎶 Hell Ya in 2024
Why not a Album What????
Come on Chad Grey Make another Mudvane Record
I'm a Big Mudvane Fan
Awesome Video of Chad Grey of both Mudvane and Hell Ya
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💯💯💯💯💯🤘🤘🤘
What a badass, slayer!!!!!!
It's not Pantera without the Abbott brothers even Vinnie Paul said and plus Zack is not dim he doesn't care about the riffs it's on video
And he sucks ass playing Dime's solos. Disgusting
Oh quit whining lol. Enjoy it for what it is. Vinnie and Dime are long gone, get over it!
@@hazmathauler4536 I respect vinna and dime Zack is no dime he can't play his nots right they doing for the money not for you sorry
@@GaryKing-x2l Your lack of grammar shows your peak of intelligence. Of course they are doing it for the money lol…it’s called a JOB…they are ENTERING. Dime was a good guitarist ….but Zak is very good in his own right. Enjoy it for what it is. If not the quit bitching and don’t listen to it or comment on it.
love this
Vinnie was kinda selfish...he forgot he was 1/4 of Pantera.
Good. All Mudvayne from here 9n out!! Hellyeah was good but Mudvayne is the greatest
That way the last album he was on was Hellyeah
Any mention if Tom Maxwell and late Matt Holt from Nothingface!?
The entire "Pantera" show is literally pretty much paying homage to Dime and Vinnie. It's almost like they are there. The Abbott estate gave Phil and Rex the green light. It is what it is. I never thought it would happen. But I'm excited to see it and celebrate the band, the music, and the brothers. It's being done with integrity. Definitely doing new music and calling it Pantera should not even be considered. I could see maybe the tour continues for maybe another year or so. Then shut it down. Before it loses it's shine.
The face paint is cool, but I was never bothered when they got rid of it.
I have all the love in the world rex and phil novena Paul no dime no pantera
Ld 50 I wasn't impressed with all the old slip knot sh!t did it for me in saying that this is one of my favorite bands and Chad is is one of my favorite artist hail Shadows fall
