Vinnie and Dimes drive and dedication to their music is admirable. Not forgetting Rex or Philip I just really have respect for the Abbot boys drive. I still listen to Cowboys in my garage when I work on my motorcycles....and so do my neighbors!
When Cowboys came out, I was in high school. For whatever reason my alarm rest to 4am and was set for the radio. for 3 days, I woke up to Gates. Then I started searching to find out who it was because they didn't always say who it was. So it took about 3 weeks to find the band name.
@They're Distorting Your Rhythm 128 I take it that's sarcasm? I don't quite get it but it MUST be sarcasm cause NOBODY could be stupid enough to think covid isn't real.
I saw them in San Antonio on their Vulger tour, at a small club of less than 1000 people and thought, wow this should be interesting, a huge band in a small club. I was absolutely FLOORED! The entire concert sounded exactly like the albums. Almost note for note perfect - the vocals, guitar, and that sound! One of the best concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of concerts.
I saw them in Cleveland at the beginning of the Vulgar tour. White Zombie opened up for them. Real small venu. I was 19 and full of angry. It was heaven
You hit the nail perfect. They stayed metal, stayed loyal to their fans and friends. That's hard to find when people "make it" in the music bizz. They had a way of tapping into teen angst that no one had before, plus they never acted like they were better because of fame. That alone was appealing in itself. Very rare to find. Spent real time with fans. Nobody does that.
Just seen Pantera tonight with Lamb of God in Hershey PA 8/5/23. Wish Dime and Vinne were still here but im happy that Pantera is being kept alive and living on. Rest in peace Dime and Vinne 🙏
i really hate how people blame the break up on phil , they had mad creative differences and the people who say " he should have just got clean" have no idea what a opiate addiction does to someone and how hard it is to climb outta that hole.
A buddy on a highschool bus trip had his earbuds in from a discman, i could hear the tinny screeching of max volume from my seat. "Giz a hoon bro..." One of those moments in life where the sledgehammer hits your unsuspecting FACE, aurally and metaphorarically... That was the moment i first heard the opening seconds to GSTK at FULL VOLUME. I did not give the discman back, until my pupils had finished spasming to the entire album. Next day i purchased GSTK on cd, my first cd ever. I didnt even have a cd player yet. Still got the very same disc.
my best friends dad showed us all the good stuff when we were super young lads, were either 10 or 11 discovering AIC, RATM, Biohazard, Soundgarden ect. verrry g o o d t i m e s
In 1993 PanterA literally became my new & only level of confidence. These feisty younglings & the energy they together formed & shared with us helped me to locate my inner strength around a time it was much needed. Ex..they helped me to not give a f##" so much. Which is the type of help lots of ppl need concerning mental & emotional health. Once suicidal..I felt strong thru PanterA & the energy of their songs, & even the home vids. Strong enuff at least to release depression/suicide & stand more tall & loud. A fan since 1st airplay (cowboys) and forever..thank you so much and I am here for u always if needed
The first time I ever seen Pantera was in early '92 opening for Skid Row and i went to the show for Pantera alone and I remember Phil saying leading into a song "This is gonna be our new single from our new album about to drop... Its called Mouth For War.." and i went home and told all my friends, "wait til you hear the new song about to drop from Pantera.." I seen them 8 more times after that... So glad I was that age in that time in history... 🤘
Pantera with Type O Negative, Amarillo, TX-1995. AMAZING SHOW!!! ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS IV'E EVER ATTENDED!!! 🤟🏼🤟🏼 Absolutely one of the BEST bands to ever walk the planet....
Phil straight up said that he told them "we need to ditch the glam and go heavy". It was a conscious decision. These people interviewed saying otherwise are dumb.
Pantera was Amazing and their music still is. I can still remember where i was and what i did the first time i heard them. I listened to as much as i could of Pantera that night and from then on i was hooked. Thank you Vinnie Paul, Dimebag, Rex and Phil for all that you have created, You made music so much better.
I miss these guys so much...with their music I can safely say ( as can many others) without this band in my life I would not be here...music is less richer for not having Dime and Vinnie in it anymore....the greatest....many have tried but no one will ever match what Dime could do on a guitar....the only thing that could kill Pantera was sadly Pantera.... Fly high brothers Abbot you are truly missed by so many...your influence will last a life time💔💔😥😥😥 #Blacktoothgrin #Pinkbeard #Pantera
“We really didn’t want this little fourteen year old guitarist” remained cemented in the history books as one of the all time greats!! Dime R.i.P in hell 🤘🏼
If Phil had just gotten the back procedure done there is no telling where Pantera could have gone in term of heights. He seems very self pride driven in terms of working really hard. In my mind he would have had to miss touring for a year and a half to properly rest his injuries but he could have grinded out in the studio though for fresher album releases. RIP Pantera. 🥺
I think even if Phil had fixed his back, his head trip games would've ended them anyway. He's just turned into a real fkwit. I still love him for his quarter part in one of the most incredible heavy metal band's that's ever existed, and it hurts me to have to hate the c**t now for how he let it all happen, but I am just so grateful I was alive to hear the crushing power they created together and for that, I have to thank him for it.
Back then spinal surgery was extremely risky and the success rate was low anyway. Phil did the smart thing by waiting to have it done. Unfortunately, he kept pushing through the damage and pain which is what you’re NOT supposed to do which is what sent him in search of relief that led to his heroin addiction.
PaaanteraaaA! R.I.P Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, Schuck Schuldiner, Jeff Hanneman, Cliff Burton, Eddie Van Halen......Still Rocking in the South Of Heaven \m/

I can go on, you named some greats as well, cliff burton, probably metals biggest innovator and one of the most important people in metal. Rock on man, oh yeah and just recently lexi of children of bodom, i forgot about layne stahley of Alice in chains, another superb singer
When I seen them last year 2023 with Zack n Charlie there were lightning bolts striking their whole set and the rain only came when they started floods the show was at a newer venue in NORTHERN NH where the white mountains are they played the songs with passion along with many tributes to the Abbot brothers so the rain falling for floods and the lightning show like I never seen became the best night in my 34 years alive feeling the presence of dime with the lightning and the thunder booming like Vinnie Paul’s massive drum sound then you see every fan knowing how special of a night we were experiencing so us fans were in a moment we knew wouldn’t happen again all of a sudden black tooth shots, beers and I’d have to say thousands of joints got passed making it not just the best show to happen but also the best party came out of that experience every Pantera die hards we’re all one is was unlike any concert I’ve ever experienced out of 100+ shows and festivals I had the honor to also attend
seen them so many times they always put on a solid show the 90s seemed like yesterday , now kids want to be rappers instead of pickin up a guitar or bass ,drums etc .
That's what happened when labels stopped pushing bands and promoting EDM. Bands are expensive. Once CD sales dried up, it was cheaper to put a 20 year old DJ in a station wagon on tour than it was to pay for tour support for big productions like a band needs. Once those tunes are on the radio, kids listen. Fast forward a decade or so, and new artists are trying to emulate their heroes, few of which use real instrumentation. Sad really, but as always, follow the money.
I grew up in Dallas. When I was 15, I picked up this lil underground metal magazine called Skull Press and they had an article on Pantera in there. I was too young to get into the clubs to find them, and they weren't YET getting airtime on the metal station (Z-ROCK), but it came VERY soon after! Got my hands on a cassette....I COULD NOT PLAY THEM LOUD ENOUGH 🤘😆.... God love my parents...
I'm from Parma. Dime never played a show in Parma and i never met him because im just some douchebag from Parma but i enjoyed the music and i hear Dime was one cool cat.
The car was a DeTomaso Pantera. Was an Italian designed car that had a mid mounted 351 cleveland and transaxle and was sold at Ford dealers in the late 70's to mid 80's due to the deal that DeTomaso had with Ford for supplying the driveline Vince Neil killed a guy whilst driving drunk in one.

During the power metal years I was at metal worx in Arlington waiting for the show playing pole position...a quarter was slapped on the machine and a voice said "next game" I turn around and it's Darrell. I ended the game immediately so I could watch him play the game. We would drive around dfw to wherever they were playing. First time we heard cowboys at Joe's garage in ft worth we knew the small club days were over.
I saw them with Megadeth and White Zombie (who nobody knew yet) on the Vulgar display tour. I met Phil by the bus outside. The only thing I could find for him to sign was an empty Miller Lite six pack. Which I thought would be awesome for him to sign. He took it, looked at it, and threw it back saying,"I ain't signing no light beer label." Lmao. I must have looked like the kid in Christmas Story when Santa tells him ," you'll shoot your eye out kid." I found a scrap of paper instead. He signed it. I still have it.
I met and had a drink with Terry Glaze in Laurel, Maryland back in I'm pretty sure 2006. It wasn't too long after Dimebags death and I remember talking to him about that. He mainly talked about the severe alcoholism/debauchery that went on with Pantera and how it's a shame how Pantera eventually ended up. It was totally random seeing him there though! I really wish I could have met and hung out with the rest of the Pantera guys. Only got to them them once on Ozzfest 2000 in Virginia (what's now known as Jiffy Lube Live). Amazing show that was! ❤️🔥🤘🤘
George Lynch owned a Pantera back in the day..he was cutting an album in L.A. in a sketchy part of town and when he finished, got into car and the fn gears went out except for reverse so he's driving during the fn Riots at the time backwards in a fn sports car!✌😂👍
I agree. Not sure why people dismiss it as a different sound. Half of that album sounds like some of their previous work, but songs like Death Trap, Down Below or Burn could have just as easily been released on Cowboys.

Yeah, I put it on 20 minutes ago and haven't gotten bored yet. Terry Glaze sounds kinda generic but overall the tunes are as good as plenty of major-label stuff from the same era -- Dokken, Scorpions, Quiet Riot. The lead-off track, "All Over Tonight." coulda been a minor hit single and Diamond Darrell is tearin' up that fretboard like it owes him money. Plus, the band members were in their late teens or early 20s when they recorded this album and they did everything with their own talent and some local help. Definitely way above average.
Man!! They came to El Paso, TX in '94, '96 and '97. Not sure if any other years before '94 but I was too young. I was sure they'd come back and I'd get to see them but they didn't 😭

It's from the Exorcist. Priest: " If you are the devil why cant you blah blah blah? Regan: " that would be too much a vulgar display of power!" Good movie.
I would have loved to have seen those guys back in the day with Type - O which were my two favorite bands at the time . There was a lot of good music then at a time when metal was supposed to be dead like Fear Factory , Sepultera , Death , Type-O and Pantera .
I got to see them w/ Type O at Ozzfest 97. It was the best lineup in one place I'd ever seen. Fear Factory, Machine Head, but Pantera & Type O were my favorites too. I got to see Type O a couple other times in smaller clubs - those were amazing shows!
I caught Pantera and Type- O at Ozzfest 97 as well. Peter Steel was up on stage, taking a few belts off of what I assumed was a beer. Phil comes out and reaches up to Peter for the bottle, Peter said "anything for free, this fuckin kid!" With the bottle in Phil's hand it was obvious it was a WINE bottle. Awesome.
Why was "Great Southern Trendkill" NOT mentioned? Met Phil at the House of Shock Haunted House in New Orleans; I was wearing a Pantera t-shirt, Phil's "entourage" walked right pass us, and I was like "THAT WAS PHIL!" No sooner than I could get my full thought out, Phil walked back over, shook my hand and said "NICE SHIRT." Unfortunately, in the days before cell phones w/cameras! CFH for Life!

@They're Distorting Your Rhythm 128 ur joking right it came out in 2019, thus covid NINETEEN
Was that at White Rabbit?
@@johnhornbeak5735 yep 👍
What was your first concert?
I saw them in Cleveland at the beginning of the Vulgar tour. White Zombie opened up for them. Real small venu. I was 19 and full of angry. It was heaven
You hit the nail perfect. They stayed metal, stayed loyal to their fans and friends. That's hard to find when people "make it" in the music bizz. They had a way of tapping into teen angst that no one had before, plus they never acted like they were better because of fame. That alone was appealing in itself. Very rare to find. Spent real time with fans. Nobody does that.
Can Scott Ian ever not be on a metal documentary 😂🙄
He's a greedy bastard
Lol right? He's a good guy but kind of annoying.
I thought I was the only one that noticed that. He's literally on everything.

i really hate how people blame the break up on phil , they had mad creative differences and the people who say " he should have just got clean" have no idea what a opiate addiction does to someone and how hard it is to climb outta that hole.
When it comes to musicians that have perfect chemistry like Pantera is something we have to be thankful for
A buddy on a highschool bus trip had his earbuds in from a discman, i could hear the tinny screeching of max volume from my seat. "Giz a hoon bro..."
One of those moments in life where the sledgehammer hits your unsuspecting FACE, aurally and metaphorarically...

Saw them live in Auckland, New Zealand in 2000.. insane energy, rock solid, unforgetable.. RIP (rock in paradise) Abbott brothers 💯 Pantera forever!

Absolutely one of the BEST bands to ever walk the planet....
Phil straight up said that he told them "we need to ditch the glam and go heavy". It was a conscious decision. These people interviewed saying otherwise are dumb.

@basic2585 cuz they all braindead from eating tide pods
Plus, the band members were in their late teens or early 20s when they recorded this album and they did everything with their own talent and some local help. Definitely way above average.
