  • Here is what I do. NO UP POTTING!!! I'll go through my main rooting method. Why I like it & why it has worked for me better than any other method. I'll discuss the pros and cons of this method and many others. With this method, there is NO LOSS up potting your cuttings. Keep the cuttings on bottom heat and in relative darkness for first 2-3 weeks. You can acclimate the pots to light after 3 weeks. If you stay until the end, you'll see my latest and craziest experiment.

I did the cup and plastic bags with some cuttings. So far no cuttings got rotted yet, but the results appeared slower comparing to my other methods. It took over a month until the cutting grew foliage, and I couldn't see the roots. So I changed to use the fig pop method. Every time I used peat moss with perlite and a bit compost, so they leaf out a lot, but grew roots very slow. Lately I use coco coir, perlite and peat. I tend to always over water water, afraid they got dried up, since I used heat mass, so I had a one cutting rotted. One time I used the method from Korean gardener's channel and added some water at the bottom of the tote for moisture, but that was too much moisture. After a few days, they got molded, so I had to take out and redo them again. Geez.
The problem is some of the cuttings I bought from Figbid and Ebay looked like they were old cuttings, so I worried they got dried up. Some sellers did cut the cuttings fresh out of their treed, after they got the orders, but those were less common varieties, so I only bought a few cutting (1-3) for each varieties.

I started soaking the pro-mix in a tub full of water then squeezing the hell out of it using an antique fruit press. 2 things I would like to know please if you don't mind.
    1) When do we start watering and what amount of water?
    2) Watering question: This is a tall tree pot. I used to spray some water at the top every few days but the center and bottom soil remained dry. When I tried bottom watering, bottom soil remained very wet for long. How do you water these tree pots when the initial roots are forming?
    3) When we open the plastic bag, do we have to open the bag for few mins the first day and gradually increase the time before we remove the plastic bag completely?

Great, and comprehensive. A point and a question.
Point - how about applying a dollop of low melting hotmelt glue from a craft gun instead of wax?
Question: It waa almost clear about the scoring of the bottom quarter or third of the cutting before dipping in hormone. Is that depth just enough to gt a bit of sap in contact with the hormone, do you suppose? Or, do you go deeper? Great work on OurFigs!
