Yeah that first story reminds me of so many people in school. Think they know everything and trying to get by on less than half the lesson. The second one yeah that's definitely human we bond with their pets almost as much as we bond with each other sometimes more in specific cases
The Ambassador was like: You just committed vore upon a priceless koi that is twice as old in Terran Revolutions than your own pointy snake arse! Cough it up! COUGH IT UP NOOWWW!!! I'll be having a new pair of leather boots before we're done here!!!
I don't have an especial love of fish, but I grew up in a small town with a semi-famous local restaurant that had a small Koi-pond, and a water wheel which was mostly decorative. This town was near Camp David, and the restaurant had hundreds of pictures of famous reporters and diplomats on the walls. I told my Wifey-to-be about this when we were dating, and she thought I was exaggerating the size of the "giant goldfish". So, the first time I took her to meet my parents, I also took her to the restaurant to see the Koi. When the first 2 foot (65 cm?) Koi broke the surface out of curiosity or looking to be fed, she nearly screamed. Sadly, the restaurant went out of business as it was family owned and the last family member with an interest in keeping it going was getting older. It was later demolished. It was a bit of a local legend and landmark, but now it is part of the parking lot of a car dealership. Still saddens me today. It's the kind of story worth telling to the kiddos, but I can never take them there now, and say here, look at these fishies that scared your mommy.

The saying is originally “jack of all trades, master of one.”
No, it was quoted right in the story... Especially the full quote.
