      @monocuco818 4 года назад

      Yeah, a lot of it has already been debunked. Other research is showing that sources are wrong. I have read some of it and picked out a lot that is just garbage and not accurate as to our beliefs.

    • @legs11teg
      @legs11teg 4 года назад

      PriestJK I see, can you give me the sources that have proved the CES letter to be inaccurate? The Gospel Topic Essays in the LDS website also verify a lot of the information from the CES letter, I find it odd that there are two narratives within the LDS website? Can you offer an explanation as to how that is possible as both cannot be true? I’m confused .

    • @monocuco818
      @monocuco818 4 года назад

      @@legs11teg It verifies some of the information but twists it. There are several videos out that show many issues with the CES letter. It also doesn't take into account what a reasonable translator would do.
      For example one of the first issues it takes with the Book of Mormon is when 2 Nephi 19:1 contains 3 words that fill in the passage that were missing from the original KJV Bible when it was translated. So why are these 3 words inserted in the Book of Mormon when they purportedly were not in the original Bible? Would it be that hard to assume that Joseph Smith could read that scripture and realize that it doesn't make sense without them, compare it to the Bible that he already had (the KJV) and add those 3 words to make it read better? It is something any reasonable person would do, filling in 3 words that do not change the meaning whatsoever but that help it read better.
      But then, the CES letter does not give credit to the Book of Mormon when there are differences in the Bible's words and in the Book of Mormon where it is repeating other words of Isaiah. But when they compare the words of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon to other ancient texts that had the writings of Isaiah they match perfectly, or are a mixture of the ancient texts and what is found in the Bible.
      The thing is, this guy took a lot of questions and research into why the church has so many "issues" and yet never looked for the answers to his questions. Some of them are very easy to find answers, some are straight out lies, some of them twist the truth and some of them may be true or we just don't know the answers to them.
      Brigham Young, for example, definitely had racist views. Combine that with a misunderstanding of the curse of Cain and you get a teaching that is completely wrong, that blacks could not hold the priesthood.
      It was not good, it was not what God wanted, but the church was never supposed to be perfect at this time. The book of Revelation clearly teaches that Christ is supposed to perfect His church with time, to present it to His Father, spotless.
      Another thing the CES letter, and all anti-LDS sources do not do, is give credit to the incredibly beautiful doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While there are many questions still (and there are for all churches), the church accounts for more doctrinal accuracies than any other church in existence today. The Book of Mormon has too many doctrines that perfectly correlate to the Bible to call it mere chance, nor could a 17 to 25 year old with barely any education connect all of these doctrines and fulfill so many revelations that are found in the Bible.
      If it were up to "christians" these revelations would never be fulfilled because they are just like the pharisees and saducees in the Bible. They think they are right, they think they have the correct interpretation of the scriptures, yet they deny the power from which it comes; the Spirit of God. The "preach another gospel" and do not understand the scriptures because of the craftiness of Satan and His man made creeds.

    • @legs11teg
      @legs11teg 4 года назад

      PriestJK I still feel there are far too many huge discrepancies that the church itself once said were not true yet since 2013 they have decided that the overwhelming evidence can not be denied. For instance the Book if Abraham, the church historians have admitted that the whole book is totally fabricated, the papyri are in actual fact common Egyptian funery texts. My question is why does the church continue to teach that Joseph Smith translated them from the written hand of Abraham yet also admits they are totally fabricated in the Gospel Topic Essay? These are major issues which really do bring the integrity of the church into question, one must consider that they are perhaps twisting the truth? Although I realise this must be a difficult concept for you to accept, if one is to dedicate ones life and finances to an organisation they need to provide clarity on what the actually believe/know themselves. The book of Abraham is only one issue, perhaps on its own one could be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt, but when other huge issues such as the first vision accounts, 9 in total, all of which are different, these can be verified in The Joseph Smith papers, differing accounts written in his own hand. His multiple wives, these can also be verified, some as young as 14, bearing in mind he was 35 at the time, it becomes difficult to believe, particularly from the outside looking in. I feel as though the church is being a little shy with the truth which could explain why not many members are aware of the Gospel Topic Essays which of course have been vetted and sanctioned before being published within the LDS website. It seems to be a go to defence to label people as anti LDS when they ask perfectly legitimate questions, this again is probably enough to prevent many of people from believing the church had any credibility. Currently there is a Class Action Lawsuit filed against the church for deception, seems there are slot of people who are understandably upset about the way the church has conducted itself. I personally feel it has been a successful business which is worth billions, I think the leadership will do anything to protect that. Brigham Young Speech before the Utah Territorial Legislature. 1852, footnote 9 “... the Lord told Cain that he should no receive the blessings of the priesthood nor his seed, UNTIL THE LAST OF THE POSTERITY OF ABEL HAD RECEIVED THE PRIESTHOOD, until the redemption of the earth” President George Smith - statement of the First Presidency of the LDS Church, August 17, 1949 “The attitude of the Church with reference to Negroes remains as it always stood. It is not a matter of POLICY but DIRECT COMMUNICATION from the Lord, in which is founded the DOCTRINE of the church from the days of its organisation.,,.. “ there are many many more quotes from prior Prophets. So which Prophets are to be believed? Then or now? It’s a year since I first asked you my initial question, since then I have done my research, both from the missionaries perspective and from a non LDS perspective, for me there are far too many discrepancies and I would not want to invest my life only to find out Satan was indeed the master of deception

      There's an episode coming out tomorrow that addresses the topic a little bit. I think it's a good course correction, though one that's going to be really tough to implement. The problem (imo) is that people know us as Mormons and search for that term online, and we want positive results to show up. But if we're not using the term, then it's more likely that negative stuff will show up. That said, if we ever want to get to a point when "Mormon" isn't the term people are searching, then all of us members, channels, outlets, websites, etc, need to get on the same page. So it's probably going to be a bumpy road for a while, but I think it's a good call. President Nelson seems to be doing all he can to get us all refocused on Christ, I think we can expect even more changes come General Conference next month.

    • @KevlarX2
      @KevlarX2 6 лет назад +2

      I've conducted a few baptism interviews when I was on my mission, maybe I can briefly explain it. Usually a missionary (Elder, - missionary district leader) conducts the interview if it's a person who is being taught the discussions looking to join the church. Usually a Bishop or Branch President conducts the interview if it is a child of a member. What is basically ask is things that were taught in the discussions and it is just to see if you understand the basic principles and the covenant of baptism. For instance: You might be ask about what is your understanding about God as our Eternal Father, and about Christ as his Son and Savior and redeemer of the world? Do you believe that Christ restored his gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith? Do you believe President Nelson is a Prophet of God today? What is your understanding of repentance? Are you ready to repent of all your past transgressions? You will be ask about your understanding of why we need to be baptized, the law of chastity, the word of wisdom, the law of tithing, sacrament meetings, the sabbath day etc. They will ask if you are willing to take upon you the name of Christ and keep his commandments and be faithful? If you are, then a date for your baptism will be set up.

    Absolutely love what SU does. I was wondering if you would do an episode on the relation of prophets and apostles? For example, Joseph and Hyrum were brothers.
    Joseph Sr. was the first patriarch of the church.
    Joseph F Smith was nephew of Joseph. Joseph Feilding Smith son of Joseph F Smith. Joseph F Smith Daughter amelia married Bruce R Mckonkie. Lorenzo Snow was distant Cousin of Erastus Snow. Heber J Grants father was a counselor in the First Presidency to Brigham Young. George Albert Smith Married a granddaughter of Wilford Woodruff.
    David O McKays younger brother, Thomas Evans McKay served as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from 1941 to 1958.
    Joseph Feilding Smith was the first son of Julina Lambson Smith, the second wife and first plural wife of Joseph F. Smith, then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve.
    Spencer W Kimball's paternal grandfather, Heber C. Kimball, was one of the original LDS apostles who were called when Joseph Smith first organized the Quorum of the Twelve in February 1835. Kimball later served as first counselor to Brigham Young in the church's First Presidency from 1847 until his death in 1868. Spencer also married an Eyring (Relation to Henry?)
    Ezra Taft Benson was the great-grandson of Ezra T. Benson, who was appointed by Brigham Young to be a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
    Gordon B Hinkley's son Richard G. Hinckley, was/is an LDS Church general authority
    Russel M Nelson performed an operation Spencer W. Kimball, replacing his damaged aortic valve.
    Possible other discourses could include
    - Relations to Polygamy, rising up righteous seed, strong families, etc.
    - descendants of Joseph Smith Sr.

      Christ never used perfect men to run His church. Noah was a mess, Moses didn't understand and questioned God so Aaron was placed as a spokesman for Moses. Peter James and John many times were confused at the new doctrine and it is the same with joseph Smith. He received an incredible amount of doctrine in a short time. He made mistakes and was chastised for it, but he definitely grew into his role as a prophet and more importantly an Apostle.
      People attack him for his mistakes, but don't realize that his testimony of the Father and of Jesus Christ was incredibly pure.
      One thing is for sure, Joseph Smith could have never understood the complexities, let alone written the things he did, without direct revelation, supervision, and patience from Jesus Christ Himself.
      Joseph Smith was a great man, Jesus Christ is our Lord, our Savior, and our God. Make no mistake about what we believe and who we worship.

      RCpilot The channel was made to answer some questions about the church. They cannot anwser every question every made about the church. Or make a video about every single topic about the church. And if they did it would be so long that barley anyone would watch it. There are videos that talk about some of these things. Like how they talked about the meadows massacre. Or on qwaku's channel he has a video about racism in early church history. And then there is a RUclips channel who talks about slot of the things you are talking about. The RUclips Channel is called: Latter day saints Q &A

    Another interesting fact about one mormon prophet, Joseph Smith, in History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 408-409 you get a jist of Joseph smith Boasting over our lord and savior, and we all know what the Bible says about boasting. "God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil--all corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet." If you want to claim this as not real go ahead, and look for it yourself.

      In the Bible, Paul boasts for the sake of providing a literary approach to those he was speaking to. In 2 Corinthians 11, he says "Again I say, let no one think me foolish; but if you do, receive me even as foolish, that I also may boast a little. That which I am speaking, I am not speaking it as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting. Since many boast according to the flesh, I will boast also. For you, being so wise, bear the foolish gladly." In fact, it was based upon this chapter wherein Joseph Smith's remarks came; as Joseph, facing much persecution like the apostles of old, was utilizing a similar literary approach to those he was teaching. Furthermore, those remarks of Joseph written in History of the Church aren't even a direct quote from Joseph, but rather a synopsis written by Thomas Bullock. When looked at from a contextual totality, it's clear to see that this accusation of Joseph is just another old, debunked attempt at smearing the good name of a true prophet of God.

      @@Old_and_Wise HOWEVER Paul didn't boast over Jesus, as where Joseph Smith did. Listen, the mormon church is just like the catholic church... False and hiding secrets. Don't believe me thst the Mormons are hiding things? They have vaults with documents just like catholics do.

    • @Old_and_Wise
      @Old_and_Wise 6 лет назад

      Lol, the vaults are no hidden secret. Yes I know about the Granite Vaults; anyone can read about them on the Church's official website. And again, you can't accuse Joseph of boasting over Christ. He wasn't in the manner he was speaking if you look at it in context, and furthermore (as I already mentioned) the source of that quote from History of the Church is a synopsis of his words; written by Thomas Bullock. It's not a direct quote of Joseph Smith.
