you just want a front row seat of sport games 😂😂
I want to do total joint, and I have wanted to since I was 12.
As long as there are colleges and universities, minor league teams, and the pros who will spend millions on their star players, you will make a nice living serving the mostly uneducated sports world. Meanwhile, blue-collar disabled (fireman in my instance, yes I was a professional FF for seven years despite having OI type 1 with traces of type 4 and a history of 132 fx) and their families will continue to travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles to go to the few special clinics with OI teams to treat us. I honestly wish you the best Mr./Dr. Brown (not sure where you are in your studies), but if you really want to help people with orthopaedic injuries and conditions, you will get done with residency and go study with someone like Dr. Eric Rush and others who can help train you to serve a small, yet needy, ortho subset of individuals. Good luck and God Bless in your studies.
TheRev Fireman thank you so much for your kind comment! I am going into my final year of undergrad and finished my MCAT in July. Submitting applications for medical schools now.
Dr. Webb, you're such an inspiration. I have been subscribed to you for a long time, and I enjoy your content. Keep it up & thank you for all of your advice!
You are my favorite doctor on video or tv! You are real! Thanks for the videos!
I don’t work in an industry close healthcare but I find your videos so interesting to watch. Keep them coming.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Please talk more about orthopedic oncology surgeons 🥺
Thank you for making these videos. Another area of speciality worth mentioning is orthopedic oncology.

Love your videos Dr. Webb!
I work in Ortho Trauma at a good sized hospital here in Alabama. It's pretty interesting! You ortho surgeons are awesome!
Hey, what are your hours like, I want to do ortho trauma but I also want to be involved with my family.

I’m in 7th grade and I think I would really enjoy doing orthopedics and think it would be fun
Man I hope you become a surgeon, try your best and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t

Thanks for the video Doc but can you elaborate on Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. I would like to hear from an actual doctor thats that's why I'm asking.
+Positive Vibes
Good question. Pedi Ortho is a good field. Pediatric orthopedic surgeons diagnose, treat, and manage children’s musculoskeletal problems such as limb and spine deformities (i.e club foot, scoliosis)
Gait abnormalities, bone and joint infections, broken bones, etc. A residency, you would need to do a 1 year fellowship to specialize in pedi surgery. I hope this helps!

thanks for the clarification am settling for joint replacements
1 year for fellowship on shoulder and elbow replacement? That needs to change, needs to be like 3 to 4 years. Misdiagnosis is very common in shoulder surgery that really needs to change. A shoulder is like a tire on a car, take a tire off what starts to get damaged? rim, over time the motor gets stressed, suspension eventually snaps, then eventually ECU will shut down, and ECU in a human is mental state and quality of life.
Your videos are so informative! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Next year I start college and I’m very happy!
Congratulations on your second year of college
Thanks Webb you are really a great person as well as Dr.my craz is orthopedic surgeon.

How much of a disadvantage is it to decide on a competitive specialty in year 3 vs year 1 of med school? In terms of being behind on amount of publications, extracurriculars for that specialty?
+Life2dmax1
Hi,
Thanks for the comment and watching! You won't be that much at disadvantage because most people don't decide on a speciality until their 3rd year of medical school after they complete clinical rotations.

Dr. Webb, love your videos I have been watching you for about 2 years now.
Hello Dr. Antonio Webb,
Thank you for all the great advice. I am a senior in highschool going to undergrad but just preparing for the future to come. I was wondering if you are able to become an orthopedic surgeon however still be able to deal with internal medicine as well? Also is there such thing is a trauma orthopedic surgeon that deals with all ages? I always thought it was that way but didn't know if that was true
Congrats Webb!
Hi Dr.Webb. What is the difference between someone who is a podiatrist and someone who is a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the foot and ankle. Do they both do the same type of surgery or is it different? Great video :)
+Victoria Oluyole
Hi,
Thanks for the comment and watching! Good question. Orthopedic surgeons go through 4 years of medical school, 5 years of residency and 1 year of fellowship to become foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons. Podiatrists do 4 years of podiatry school and 3 years of residency. Surgeries are similar but Ortho docs are able to do more.
I hope this helps! Be sure to subscribe also to receive the newest videos posted weekly!

Did you say only *6* years to be a Orthopedic spine surgeon??? That's not a lot and I'm thankful!!! I've been looking up how long does it take to become an orthopedic surgeon and it would say 13 years or something like that and I've been question what I want to do just because of how long it takes. Please tell me the exact or estimate of years for each type orthopedic surgeon. I guess I'm a little confused on the years.
+Alexis Fowler
Hi,
Thanks for the comment and watching! To become any type of orthopedic surgeon it requires 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 5 years of residency. To specialize to be a spine surgeon, Foot/Ankle surgeon, Hand surgeon, Shoulder surgeon, etc (who are all orthopedic surgeons), you have to do an additional year called a fellowship. So, it takes 14 years to be a spine surgeon. Check out this video here about the different types of orthopedic surgeons:

@@antoniowebbmd Hi, I’m a senior in high school and I will be perusing orthopedics. I have a couple questions. During those 14 years, are you making any type of money? I know orthopedics is competitive so what should I do to stand out early? Thank you.
enjoyed this video...I felt like I want to do a fellowship in all the specialties you talked about. lol.. is that possible?
imonluamen Suzie make the attempt but if you try to do all do you ever see yourself well skilled in one of them?
it won't be an easy road for one to try them all but I guess it comes with hardwork and of course there are some specialties that are more passionate than the other...we won't know till we try.
+imonluamen Suzie
Hi,
Thanks for the comment and watching! Good question! And you can do as many fellowships as you like! I know some surgeons who are dual certified! Basically who are orthopedic surgeons fellowship trained in spine and oncology or oncology and pediatrics, etc. More than 2 fellowships is possible but uncommon!

Question about Sports Medicine.
I plan on doing a Rural Family Medicine track. (Yeah I'm capable of anything, but it's the one that has always spoke to me, ever since I was kid, and even after 30 years in the workforce, changing careers to medicine, it's still where I want to be.)
Does it even make sense to do a sports medicine fellowship after residency? Or would I be better served with something like OB/GYN or Pain/Substance management? There's only so much someone who's not ortho trained can do, (am I right about that?)
hey Dr. Webb, do you have to be a sports medicine specialized doc to be a team doctor? I couldn't be a team doctor if I decided to do a spine fellowship?
Hi doc. I have a Haglunds Deformity on both ankle and Sprained Ankle on left foot. How much is the surgery in the US?
It sure would be nice if some Ortho students would look into the VERY underserved population of Osteogenesis Imperfecta! It might not be as sexy as some of the other specialties, but it is something that most doctors, read a chapter about in med school, most orthos, maybe a little more, but the patients get screwed by all of the money hungry pigs who don't care about learning how to deal with our very unique metabolic bone issues! It wasn't so bad growing up in the 80's when there wasn't so much information available, and I was a kid fracturing several times a year, but now that I have two children with OI, it sure as hades would be nice if more of you wanna be docs would actually look into serving the underserved OI community!!! Thank you for reading my rant, those of you who will spend the time that is...
Trauma sounds fun
I am currently 13 my dream job is to be an orthopaedic surgeon with a spine sub-speciality any recommendations what I should pick for my GCSE’s . Thanks

Question: I remember you mentioning you spent your time in the military (Thank you for your service) but were you on duty for your time in the military or were you a reserve, but my main question is were you studying/training in medicine for the time being?
Thank you, and God Bless!

Hi,
Thanks for the comment and watching! Good question. I joined The Air Force at age 17 and did 6 years on active duty and then did 2 years in the reserves. While in the military, I went to school at night time/weekend/internet courses to complete my degree. It was very hard but rewarding to know that I could do it all while working full time. Thank you!
Can you apply for jobs without a sub specialty? Is it possible to be a general orthopedic surgeon?
Hi can you make another video about more sub specialties ?
Pediatric orthopedics?
Can i become an orthopedic surgeon after completing Doctor of Physical Therapy degree?
How long does it take to recover from a Slap Tear?
hello. i have a question yhough its not about the doctor life. i wanted to know how the family life is if one opts for orthopedic surgery ? are all surgeons equally busy???
Came from America’s channel!
I want to subspecialize in joint replacement.
Awesome! You should go for it!
Do orthopedic surgeons who specialize is reconstructive go to a fellowship?
Hey Dr. Webb, M1 here, how difficult is it to get into a fellowship like spine or sports med once you're in residency training, is it just as competitive as originally matching into ortho?
+Maaz Hassan good question and the answer is yes and no. Some fellowships are more competitive that others such as Joints or Sports Medicine but most important are letters of recommendation, board scores, and research. I hope this helps!

Sir, Did you forgot to mention pediatric orthopedics ?
How many surgeries do you do a day?
Hi- is there such a thing as a trauma orthopedic? I want to deal with different things everyday not just routine hip/knee but still want to specialize in ortho,
Paige G Yes
Can you do 2 ortho fellowships ? For example : spine & hand or spine & joints
Yes
@@antoniowebbmd thanks
Diff between foot and ankle vs podiatry?
If i specialize in spine or joint replacement could i still do shoulder or elbow surgeries?
chris O shoulder!
Doc, those "mma doctors" in ufc are also orthos or some oder specialty?
@Jmc my best guess is emergency medicine doctor or EM with fellowship in sports medicine. Honestly I don't know but if I need to bet it would be that.
Hi doctor! Is that okay if I wants to work as general orthopedic surgery? I don't want to specialize in specific area.
Where will is start to become an orthopaedic surgeon specialized in sports?? What courses would i take??? Like what is my pre med??
Milogay Gay I think any science related course. You can chose that as a pre-med and get your way in Med school.
So after 5 years of residency as a orthopedic surgeon, you have to do another year of fellowship for trauma surgery?
Thanks Dr.Webb. What If I want to do sports medicine and spine or foot ankle? Is that possible? Could I sub specialize in two or three areas?
Its not required but most people do a fellowship to subspecialize
What are the pros and cons of eCh

How long is the residency for sports med
Depends on which path you take. For surgeons, it’s 5 years plus 1 year of fellowship. For rehab doctors or ER doctors, it’s 3-4 years plus 1 year fellowship
