  • COLOGNE/BONN: In the middle of the travel season! Last generation paralyzes the airport again!
At Cologne/Bonn Airport, climate activists disrupted air traffic for several hours early in the morning. Five people from the "Last Generation" group stuck themselves to a taxiway, which led to air traffic being suspended. The police were able to remove two of the activists from the roadway at around 8:30 a.m. The remaining activists were later removed. An investigation is underway to determine whether air traffic can resume before all activists have been removed. The police have filed criminal charges for violating the assembly law, dangerous interference with air traffic and trespassing. An investigation is underway to determine how the activists were able to gain access to the airport premises.
The group "Last Generation" explained that several activists had cut through a fence and glued themselves to the runways. The group announced on the social network X that the action was part of an international protest campaign calling for the phase-out of fossil fuels by 2030. This protest was to take place simultaneously at airports in over ten countries.
A spokesperson for Cologne/Bonn Airport explained that it would not be clear until later in the morning how many flights were delayed or possibly cancelled as a result of the action. Flights were already suspended at around 5:45 a.m.
