Pretty sure the only thing special in the bios for this PC is that it was set to power on automatically after a/c power loss. Maybe different boot order perhaps. Taking the battery out while the PC on will save the bios settings, but if you drop it, it'll short out whatever it hits.
When you remove the CMOS battery it resets the BIOS. If you do it while on, the BIOS doesn't reset and you don't loose your settings. But you need to be VERY careful. If you drop the battery into the computer when it is on, then you risk shorting something and frying the computer. It is safe to switch the battery on any PC while it is on as far as I know, but you gotta be careful like I said.
Certainly not a safe way of doing it from a hardware perspective. It just streamlines the process if it's caught before the battery actually dies. Raw Thrills uses a Y connector between the 24 pin power supply and the motherboard to power the watchdog/fuse board and other devices outside of the PC. If the bios settings are lost it won't allow video to pass through and prevent the game from booting. Safest solution to change the battery while it's off and disconnect the Y connector and plug the PSU 24pin directly into the motherboard. That will allow video to the display and allow you to set up the bios.
