- West Coast diversions over the Settle Carlisle Line on Saturday 21st February 1987.
Camera was one of the first Sony 8mm video camcorders, cost £1100 in 1986! Quality is reasonable given it's age and some deterioration in the last 24 years.

In 1987 the threat of closure loomed again and a lot of arguing in London saved the day. We found Garsdale a very lonely place with one pub that summer and Dad said Hawes was a lot better despite the rain and cold.
The last shot.....a 10 coach stopping train. Those were the days and so glad I was on the railways at the time.
Beautiful location for train spotting. Very good.
If only there was that kind of variety of traffic over the S&C today.
Lineside South East I grew up in the sixties and seventies and I'm very grateful for the variety provided by the end of steam and the first generation diesels, so much better than the endless fixed train units and 66s.
Some scruffy looking coaches but what a joy to travel in, better than the s**t now.
I could never understand why Garsdale was switched out during the diversions.
brush type 4 Jack off all trades master of the lot
Diesel equivalent of BR steam black 5, ultimate work horses
Lots of teething problems with sulzers and diesel hydraulic. Also Paxman too
The wagons on the first train, what was their use?
Sure they were newspaper vans/parcels ect...
Newspaper vans for Manchester Red Bank.
Bet they saved some fuel going downhill!!!
