- One of the most iconic jazz instruments of all time, the ES-175 has established it's place in history as a must have for anyone looking for the ultimate jazz box instrument. The ES-175 was first released in 1949, as Gibson's mid-level laminate top alternative to some of their higher end offerings. The ES-175 was also the first instrument to feature the popular florentine cutaway, a look that has remained the same for generations. An incredible, instantly recognizable clean tone and the ability to growl when needed has made the ES-175 the choice of many notable players from Joe Pass to Steve Howe. The Wildwood Staff cordially invites you to discover these wonderful instruments, which have found a special place in the hearts of players all over the world.

The sound is in the fingers and Gregs fingers are magical
The playing and the pickups in that body is so amazing! The laminates don't choke the sound in that ES175 ! Thanks for the demo Mr Koch , as usual you sound great!
That's a tasty jazz box, to which she replied, "i'm glad you like it" !
Stunning guitar. Thank you : -)
One of my fav Greg Koch demos to date (for playing an musicality)!
This is the best 175 review!
Kenny Burrell ROCKS ... and Jazz!
Damn, you are an excellent guitar player. Enjoy your videos.
Magic sound
Round midnight nailed it Mr. Gregory
What kind of strings are being used here?
I knew this review was gonna be heavy when 1.5 seconds in you hear 'round midnight'.
Greg Koch WTF moment for this video: 5:10.
Sweeeeet 😋
How many songs does he know?
Head Room he seems to be the chuck Norris of the guitar he semis to know all of them. He sounds great with any guitar.
Love Greg's videos, just wish the vocals and instrument were the same volume.
No you don't
Should've played some Yes Mr. Kochery!
Agree on that one. Yes is why this ax is on my radar.
Nice Burrell.
That's Mister Bridge Pickup, Greg! Stop disrespecting him! LOL
Sure DOES sound good. I wish I had the cash. Someday...
haah gnarly old dude
Wrong specs guys, check the caption text
Yeah a es335 also works with high gain...
Btw.. all that high gain $9000 boutique tube amp stuff is bullshit. Its just selling 1940 tech with a few tweaks and then jacking the price 100x of what it costs to make a heavy obsolete unit...
Listen to frank gamble on digital and solid state sums it up.
Lovely guitar but this guy's on speed. Wish he'd slow down and talk a little slower and little more about the guitar features. It's called DeCaf. Look into it.
Pretty inappropriate demo. This is based on this is primarily a jazz guitar. But it just sounds sharp and played with distortion ? Pretty sad . Totally unrealistic. This guy can play guitar no doubt but I would say most people looking For a demo of this model would be comparing it to a more expensive 175 . Mainly used for smooth woody tones and round warm sounds.
Am I missing something? This IS a 175. He DID play some jazz. He played some other stuff too, which most do, so it's literally realistic.
I own the Gibson ES-175 with tiger stripe maple blonde finish that I bought from Wildwood. It's a beautiful sounding guitar that's very versatile. I never found the word "jazz" stamped on this guitar anywhere. You don't have to play jazz on it, and many people don't. The only thing that I would consider sacrilegious would be to put .009 strings on it. Heavier gauge strings allow the body to resonate and adds to the tone. And I use .012 round wounds, not flat wounds. Flat wound strings dull the tone and sound like crap.
Peter Vail Hopefully you never look up Ted Nugent.
Peter Vail Just goes to show this guitar is well capable of playing more than just jazz.
Unrealistic? What does that even mean? He just played the guitar with distortion and it sounds great- realistically
