  • Boxing legend Mike Tyson talks to the WSJ's Lee Hawkins about his new Fox Sports 1 show, "Being Mike Tyson," his career, and the Mayweather-Canelo fight. Tyson, who is now promoting fights, also told Hawkins that he doesn't want controversial boxing judge CJ Ross -- who scored the Mayweather fight a draw -- judging any fights he promotes.

    mike tyson used ALL of these words/phrases in the proper context:
    "maniacal mischief"
    "fiduciary duties"
    "spiritually and emotionally"
    "you cant win honor, you can only lose it"
    mike tyson is still a CHAMPION in my eyes...

    That's one thing about Tyson when he uses big words, he ALWAYS uses them in the proper context! I know because I've had to look words up after listening or reading his interviews. Recently he said his boxing style was based on "malevolence." He's one of the more captivating personalities ever.

    i agree. and also i think it was the prison that took it out of him too. boxers train train train until their career is over and when you have a gap of 3 years when you were in prison not being involved in boxing i doubt anybody could come out of that as good as they were when they went in. ive always believed that 3 years in prison took some of his boxing ability away, he was never as sharp after that.

    Tyson is the greatest to me. True combination of speed, toughness, power and execution. People saying "oh he's not the greatest he lost 6 times." What does that mean? People call Ali the greatest and he lost 5 times. And Tyson lost to Holyfield TWICE. As far as I see it, Tyson defeated himself before going into the ring with Douglas. He didn't train properly and wasn't himself to begin with. We ALL know Douglas would've been fish food in any other circumstance. The only fighters I see who really gave Tyson a problem were Holyfield (and even then he got himself DQ'd in one fight) and Lewis. At the later stages of his career (2000s) he admitted he knows he should've never been fighting but win or lose he needed the money so McBride and Williams? GTFOH. He also believes (as do I) that a true champion will fight anybody, especially who the people want him to fight, in order to prove he's the true undisputed champion. Whoever you beat you couldn't just "win," you had to BEAT them decisively and unquestionably. Out of 50 wins, 44 were by KO. That says enough.
    Tyson's the best. And if not, then at least the best Heavyweight. His toughest opponent without a doubt was himself, inside the ring and out.

    • @leevwe
      @leevwe 11 лет назад

      tyson is not the greatest,the greatest fighters retire not being beaten and mike was defeated like you said he defeated himself by not training so that makes him vulnerable and not 100% commited hence why he lost,the greatest fighters train and prepare themsleves 100% and leave nothing for chance,i do respect mike but i respect the likes of mayweather a joe calzaghe more than because they still r unbeaten which makes them far more superior

    • @Yoloslides
      @Yoloslides 11 лет назад +1

      leevwe i stopped reading after "greatest fighters retire unbeaten." Using that logic, if i fight 100 bums and win 100 times, and you fight 100 warriors and lose 20 matches, that makes you a better fighter? Think about that statement you made. Tyson was bred to destroy fighters. Mentally he didn't even consider it a victory unless he humiliated and demolished his opponents and that's exactly how his KOs came about. even Ali lost fights. You're going to say he's not one of the greatest?

    • @leevwe
      @leevwe 11 лет назад

      calhoun tubbs i would class mike as a great fighter but not the greatest take for instance larry holmes 75 fights and only 6 loses mike had 58 fights a 6 loses and he did beat larry holmes however i do think holmes was a greater fighter his record speaks for itself,and as for u sayingfighting 100 bums that dont happen u fool

    • @Skindoggiedog
      @Skindoggiedog 11 лет назад

      leevwe Just wanted to point out that you're misusing 'hence.'
      Think of it more like using the phrase "which is why." So to say 'hence why', you're really saying (effectively) 'which is why why.'
      Obviously nonsensical.

    • @odessaboy
      @odessaboy 11 лет назад

      I don't really think he was the greatest, but i do believe he would have defeated practically anyone and everyone from every era of boxing when he was in his prime. He is definitley on the short list of the greatest of all time. But can you really put him over boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson, Chavez, or Ali? Robinson had like 173 wins with only 19 losses and 6 nc's..

    Prison did rough up Mike's skills, but really it was the loss of Cus and Rooney that broke him. Mike could've been dominant if he stuck with Rooney, Douglas would've been out cold. He would've met up with Lewis at his full potential and we'd fight have the fight of the century.
