i am so mad, i figured it all out myself except that the first number was 0. i even thought about the spider being 8 bc of its legs but that first one being 0 threw me off. thanks for the quick tip

You said the smaller numbers add to the middle number. Then you say subtract the numbers and start with the middle number.

That's right. The middle number is the sum of the three outer numbers. You can solve for an unknown outer number by working backwards from the middle number using subtraction.
