what you've missed to mention in this video, is the emphasis on where does magic find actually taken into account : only killing monsters which means most of the loot in the game: loot bags, event rewards, daily rewards, basically any fix rewards are uneffected by magic find before the update unidentified gear, and some loot bag were affected by mf, but today only a few bags are, mainly from HoT metas, which are few in numbers and drop amount aswell

Thanks for the video! I enjoying playing GW2 and I've been playing since GW1 but this is a classic ArenaNet design - pointlessly complicated mechanics that are so weirdly obtuse players have to rely on videos like this to explain what the heck is going on lol Part of the confusion is the misleading name "Magic Find". Based on this video, it should be called "Rarity Bonus" or something like that. But that would provide information to the players so naturally ArenaNet avoids it like the plague. Like how they insist on calling gear stat combos "Berserker's" or "Zojja" instead of just listing them as something informative like "Pow/Per/Fer" gear. Of course that leads to further issues where ArenaNet should just call "Power" what is is = Damage and "Precision" should be called Crit Chance and Ferocity should be called Crit Damage. But if there's any way they can hide information rather than making is obvious, Anet will do that.
I thought I understood this, but our numbers aren't lining up. MF is used to calculate a MF coefficient where : MF coef. = 1 + 1*MF/100% This is then multiplied to the bucket chance%. If the bucket MF is greater than 100, it remains at 100. If I apply this logic to the starting values in your example, I get 100% => 100, 80, 20, 10, 6, 2 200% => 100, 100, 30, 15, 9, 3 1000% => 100, 100, 100, 55, 33, 11 All our numbers agree except the last 3. What am I missing?
I would have to revisit the entire thing to be sure, but from what I see In your calc from 100 to 200 you've increased it only by 50% not 100%. 200% should be simply the base value *2
What I don't get is... Do this work in the same way on Halloween Lab? I've find a lot of people that says increasing it while farming lab helps you to get more bags. I suppose it's not worth to use consumables to increase it then, is it? Thanks for your awesome guides and explanations Tekkit. I'm becoming a huge fan of your work. Top-notch sir.
Wow this was very informative, thanks! Also would this effect for example tequatl or triple trouble ascended drop rates? I kinda always figured they were on a fixed %. Either way sharing the vid, much appreciated!
And this is exactly why MF feels so meaningless, because the one roll affected by it, the Bucket-Roll, is nested between the Table-Roll and the Drop-Roll both dampening the effect of it by adding more RNG to the equasion.
Ok so how does this work with the new unidentified gear? Because they said magic find is used when the unidentified gear is dropped, but we know the game doesn’t decide weapon or armor until you identify the gear, which you said comes before magic find it calculated. Also, why does unidentified gear have a chance to tier up to a higher rarity once identified if it’s not affected by magic find?
Unidentified gear works the same way, just the last step is delayed until you open it. So you first roll the table, then the bucket(which magic find affects) then the unidentified gear goes into your inventory. So unidentified gear is basically just dropping the buckets. When you identify its drop rates are static. There is just a small chance of dropping a better item then the tier its at. So using the example of the video if you have 1000 magic find you would only drop green or above unidentified gear. When you identify there is a small chance of it being better than its original tier however that is not affected my magic find.
If I understand it right MF will affect the color of the unid bag you drop directly but not of those what comes from other bags. Also opening them is no longer affected as well.
Not realy just check magic find...it has just to a small amout of the game an influence...in this case you jeed boosters otherwise its waste of booster.
@@Yoroiful yes i know you dont have to tell me that😉. Thats why it has a realy small impact to the game. Best and most loot is coming out of bags and boxes and magic find has not realy an impact to those(most)
i get everything up till the buckets roll chances are revealed at 2:49. Why is the chance to roll a white bucket 100% chance? Shouldn't it be a smaller value than 100? Shouldn't all the buckets added up equal 100%?
The bucket is just a chance for a rarity. For example you not always get a weapon as a loot let's say it has a 50% roll chance. And when you successfully roll for it (table) you will get some weapon no matter what, because it's the first roll what determines if you get some item or not. The second roll (bucket) determine its rarity and the third final roll will pick from a list of items within that rarity. That's why there is always at least one bucket with 100% chance because you will always get at least the worst possible rarity once you got the first roll. I hope it helps😀

Don't mind me, there's a long rant below. I appreciate the effort you put into this video. However, I'm almost certain that whatever they (the staff) told us about magic find is not entirely true. If it's based on rolling tables (numbers) and the RNG in general is broken, the magic find in itself is broken too. First of all, there seems to be some sort of penalty for getting good drops. There also seems to be some sort of hidden bonus for people who either haven't dropped anything in a long time, or haven't played at all for a while. I admit that I don't have any solid proof, just personal experience. I've played this game for 6 years. The only precursor I dropped was the cheapest possible one (at the time it cost at most 50G), then for years - nothing noticable dropped. I also remember how my friend rolled a precursor on one of her first tries in the mystic forge. The thing is, she was back from a long break and she barely played in the first place. Around 4 years in after thousands of gold thrown into the mystic forge, I managed to roll three precursors in the same month. So either that's a really interesting coincidence, or the RNG is utterly broken and has some type of hidden cooldown. I also have over 300% magic find and I hardly see any difference in the loot I drop. The only noticable one is less white gear than I remembered. Makes me really wonder about why they took out magic find gear out of the game if it was useless in the first place.
Thats interesting, really, I had my experience of this broken RNG, when I started playing the game and started opening BLC I popped uncommons 2 times in a row, the raptor skin and springer backpiece(i domt know if its uncommon) with lots of hair style and full style kits, bought the game, after a few tries, then I tried to farm them, didnt get one uncommon for 3 months, went away for 3 months due to exams came back, opened 3 blc got the nightwing skin or smthing for the griffom, then onwards I started a slow pace, then I started to realize it was the same with my loot drops, got some 11-28g rare exo weapons when I started playing, with mf less than 50, about more than 10 times, then fter the break its bs loots, Introduced the game to a friend and guess what. Kudzu precursor in first month, Hummingbird skin on 6th BLC. I call BS on the loot system. I do agree with the video, but I still think it is manipulated or tampered with by "them" whenevr and however they deem necessary to draw us to play the gme more and buy BLC keys
My wife hasn't played in years and used her account to play a bit.The 30% mf isn't great, and after 4 hours of world events and fractals got no exotic and just 4 rares. On the other hand, same run, with a constantly 450%+ mf,gets me 1-3 exotics, over 20 rares and higher tier mats.So I doubt is about the inactivity, and I think mf is actually important for higher tiers roles. Also is was specified a long time ago,the mystic forge isn't influenced by magic find.

I too have noticed that when i take a break for a month i get much more ascended drops from fractals. i thought this was just my mind playing tricks on me but there seems to be some secret algorithim that is coded in GW2 to make less played accounts have better drops.
You're trying to build a model of probabilities with samples of 2 or 3 examples :P You would need at least ~100 of these and none of the opposite to start having sthg concrete :P
So like you said outdated and entirely useless nowadays since Unidentified Gear is the main type of getting gear which isn't affected by magic find. Good to know, thx ;)
@ColdMystery well just like my example - the first roll for the unid gear table is not affected, second, for bag rarity is affected and third when you open those bags is not affected. The system is still the same
Because everyone knows that gear is the most valuable part of the mob drop tables ... not ... lets say ... rare materials which are totally unrelated to unid gear and succeed the price of most gear drops by a huge margin? Or unique region locked drops which are dropping seperate from the unid gear table. This is by the way the category precursors are counting in as long as they are dropped directly from mobs. "Entirely useless" has to be a very subjective term nowadays. If you wanna see the difference between no mf and high mf do yourself a favor, go to amber bay and kill with lets say nine friends the molten dominator after finishing every heart in the zone. Than do the same with a fresh account with next to no magic find. Given that you are able to tag every mob during the event the only thing you have to compare afterwards is the amount of claws, scales and blood you have received and how many of them are t6 compared to your account without the entirely useless stat called magic find. ;)
Its not my main language either and I'm not perfect at it but I hear every individual word clear enough, nothing wrong with accent, so stop whining and git gud

Also is was specified a long time ago,the mystic forge isn't influenced by magic find.
could you elaborate on why new accounts/less played accounts have better drop rates.
Agree with previous poster - far too small a sample size and it is very common for people to find meaning in what are actually chance events.

Leftovers:-P
@@TekkitsWorkshop , dude, my leftovers are like 50 gold, and that is only there because I still have some resemblance of patience...
hmm, i understand nothing :) i think you should make a video on "most effiencient ways to use mf boosters"
Well there are still some bags affected by mf:-)
I want to join Tekkit's guild
Well it's not mine guild, I'm just a member:-P I'm sure you can join us if you play on EU servers:-)
Personally im not a fan of this loot system. love gw2 though
If gw2 would adopt Borderlands style of loot it would be perfect:-)
That accent made me laugh.
Magic find has NO influence on most part of the game. Just check it. And for the small rest maybe it works like you say i actualy dont know.
As you said - you don't know:-)
@@TekkitsWorkshop most chests are not influenced by mf.
@@TekkitsWorkshop wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_Find
@@12Burton24 their opening no, but chests are not mob drops:-)
@@TekkitsWorkshop but chests are the bigger part in the game with the better drop.

So like you said outdated and entirely useless nowadays since Unidentified Gear is the main type of getting gear which isn't affected by magic find. Good to know, thx ;)
Not at all. Unid rolls works the exactly same way and also contains only weapons and armor. There are dozens of other tables😜
Tekkit's Workshop Didn't the devs wrote that these are not affected magic find? How to understand it?
Given that you are able to tag every mob during the event the only thing you have to compare afterwards is the amount of claws, scales and blood you have received and how many of them are t6 compared to your account without the entirely useless stat called magic find. ;)
It is more than outdated because it works not for the whole game its just influencing a small amount of parts of the game (some bags and some places)
u should put subtitles bro, i cant understand shit.
It's there just turn them on:-P
Its not my main language either and I'm not perfect at it but I hear every individual word clear enough, nothing wrong with accent, so stop whining and git gud
