The main problem is that they list their systems as refurbished when they not only don't refurbish them but they don't even test them most of the time! A lot of the time they don't even work.

No, it's absolutely a scam
The prices wouldn’t be as much of an issue if they actually opened the consoles and games and cleaned them thoroughly and made sure everything worked in near perfect condition with the boxes. GameStop takes better care of their second hand consoles and that’s really saying something when you are worse than the company known for ripping people off.
Honestly the price is an issue too. Sellers are gonna see that misinformed/stupid people are willing to pay that price and everything will start to go up

@@DivertingTales no it’s not, it’s a bunch of people taking advantage of others nostalgia. All of their products are literally 3x market value and arnt refurbished. Supply and demand for retro games really isn’t all that high. Most mfs can’t even grasp how much of a game is out there. I’m willing to bet every single house in America has a Wii or at least one retro console. Ask friends and family about old games because they typically have them, don’t use them and give you it for free or very cheap. Games literally sell millions and millions of copies, all you have to do is find one person who also bought it and get it from them. Thats pretty much how the resell market even works; dudes buy earthbound and castlevania off a grandma for $5 then flip it because morons are willing to pay so much. The market rocketed in 2020 because of fomo and mfs like you.
@@DivertingTales Gotta disagree with you on this one. Just because people pay a price at one place, doesn’t mean it’s the right one. The prices are set usually by the market and you’re right, supply and demand. However, because these aren’t just regular goods like ones at the grocery store, elastic ones, because they don’t make these anymore, they’re vintage. Then, it becomes inelastic and people pay whatever the hell the owner charges to have that good, because regardless or price changes, they’ll pay for it. So in reality, just because one person charged a shit ton for a vintage game at DKoldies, doesn’t mean my local game store will do the same and actually sells lower than these guys do. At my store, they sell a cartridge of Pokémon Soul Silver for $149. DKoldies? Cartridge only is $219, that’s a whole $70 increase for no reason, so let me ask you, is it still the right price? No trying to be an ass I just want to share how I see it really.
I also want to share an experience I just remembered. I wanted to grab Silent Hill 2 from DKoldies a long while ago before I researched them a bunch. They charge $200 for the completed game, which seems at first reasonable. That’s until I found multiple copies on EBay, Mercari, and the same game store for almost $60-70 cheaper. My game store sold me mine for $110, w/out the manual. But the manual doesn’t make up the additional $90 cost so why are DKoldies up selling way more than an official retro game store? I get they’re a business but really, the prices are the issue. You can’t expect a loyal following when the prices don’t even match everyone else.

Dkoldies has actually even mentioned they up the prices specifically because demand is so high and supply is low and are you calling the people running a business a bunch of anti social gamers from your keyboard at home your a loser
Fun fact: Retro Gaming Guy (one of the youtubers featured in this video) originally made a video where he defended DKOldies by saying they aren't a scam and he also "compared" the price.
However after he brought their "refurbished" N64, this man's opinion changed fast ngl.
I think he went and bought a couple more consoles just to really expose them too, like a Wii and a ps2 or something. I know I saw one where they literally removed the original warranty sticker and put theirs on, but the guy opened it up and it was filled with dust

The problem with them isn’t the prices, when you compare a business with employees and upkeep to manage, to individual resellers who either run their own show or are just trying to get rid of their old stuff of course the business will have a higher price. The issue is that they say it’s refurbished and cleaned but it isn’t, they don’t even open the damn consoles
and puts a warranty sticker to make sure no one opened it to see the truth..
The prices are one of the main problems, but also their lazy job with "refurbishing" their consoles.

if you're paying upwards of $400-$500 for a retro game system "player pack", that thing best be fucking spotless and with no faults. saying the price isn't the problem is pure ignorance, because it's the very thing people are angry about. if they paid maybe like $100 max for a console in the condition DKOldies send them in, i doubt people would be arsed.
the prices are exploitative, their product listings don't even have the correct images (case in point the cartridge-only listings having the boxed versions as their product images) which is false advertising for one, and their overall business practice is just shady as fuck. the price remains the biggest problem because they make so much profit margin on their listings that they SHOULD be making the effort to properly refurbish their consoles.

The magic eraser clean up job gets me so much. Using a magic eraser is the easiest way to clean up the consoles, because its essentially a fine sandpaper. It WILL remove the finish and texture.

Have you seen the College Dropouts they employ to clean and service the equipment?
I ordered some ps3 games from them a few months ago. I just ignored what everyone was saying about them and thought i could get some refurbished quality games for a reasonable prize. They took over a month to ship it and when they arrived the CDs looked like they were stuffed in a washing mashine. Their back were covered in humid spots and fingerprints all over. I mean i loved the games and they worked fine, but i was expecting quality for that pile of money i threw away.
I seriously want DKO to stay, cause they have a good library of games and make cool videos on youtube and tiktok. But please. Lower the god damn prizes, refurbish properly and don’t lie to a community you act like you care about.
I genuinely enjoyed their content, I was even subscribed for almost a year! But after finding out about this stuff I regret being subbed for that long.

I worked at a used electrics store in high school and learned how the 2nd hand retail business works. And it’s a shame that people don’t generally understand that store’s markup their products by a minimum 30-33% to cover expenses & profit. Its weird though that the DK oldies guy doesn’t want to acknowledge that. I guess American’s are just built different.

I once bought iQue Nintendo dsi from aliexpress, not knowing that it was real. I wanted to find out more information about it, so I searched for that 'iQue Nintendo dsi', and it's supposed to be a 'chinese edition', and it's offical from Nintendo, which it was a mind blowing for me. Never had a rare console on my hands so far. (Spoiler Alert)
I worked summers with my dad for a while and found a GameCube sitting right next to the dumpster of the warehouse all scratched up, after buying everything for it that it needed, which In total cost me about 50 bucks, it worked absolutely beautifully. Now seeing a GameCube come out of their store for their price, just seems horrible.
