It works! I was doing the lettuce already but cucumbers were not lasting for a week’s meals until I did this plus I moved them to the top shelf instead of the veg drawers at bottom of fridge where is coldest. Thank you! You saved me a lot of money on wasting cucumbers!
😃 " WOW!.... I like Your tip. I had stopped buying ' Fresh Produce ' from the supermarkets. because It too often went bad if not used the same or next day. What I also like about your quick and easy tip is how well It applies to a variety of Vegetables. I needed some effective storage advice and will, definitely, try this method. Thank You! "
Thanks SO MUCH. Man, you have to realize, I was not eating vegetables the way I need to because I was just so sick of throwing it out after it spoiled quickly. Now my produce lasts LITERALLY 2 weeks or more! You are a lifesaver!!!
I stumbled upon your channel and so very glad I did. I never knew this so Thank You for sharing. In all honesty I have thrown out so much produce it embarrassing..... so much so I stopped buying it unless I knew I would use it within a day or two. I LOVE fresh produce and I am excited to put your tip to use. Thanks again, much appreciated 😊
I used to do that but now my kitchen is non-plastic so I use glass containers. I bring my own washable produce bags to the store. I have guinea Pigs so a lot of lettuce. The damp towel method you describe really does work.
Thanks. I just came back from the supermarket and was wondering how to keep the produce from spoiling. Thanks. How can I keep the Has d avocado from spoiling? I am going to try your tips about the cucumbers and the pepper. Thanks again.
I am definitely going to try this. I stopped buying vegetables because they just go bad so fast and I don't eat them fast enough. Thank you for the video.
Great tip, thanks! I was also using paper towels (inside a plastic bag) but dry ones, now I'll try wetting them like you do and hope the results will turn out far better. The freshness of the lettuce you showed was quite impressive to see. :)
Same here I always thought to keep it dry. I know storing Ethylene gas producers next to sensitive ethylene gas producers will destroy your produce faster than anything. .
For years I've done something similar with lettuce, it'll last a couple of weeks. I feel off the outer leaves, wash the Whole head, wrap completely with paper towels then put on a produce bag from the grocery, and twist tie. But I've never done the cucumber trick, will have to use that, thank you.
Thanks for the tip. I will try your method. Also, I am wondering what's the reason why cucumbers and zucchinis in the platic wrapped trays from supper markets get moldy after about days. I see this happens when they are left outside or even in the refrigerator.
If you line a storage container with a paper towel and store your berries and other cut produce, it works the same way. I will cut strawberries and this has saved us sooo much because they always go bad within a few days but this way they last at least a week.
Question... I watched another video where salad was put in a bowl and dry paper towels were put on bottom in between and on top. That was done to keep the moisture out. Do you suggest that wetting the paper towels is a better idea? I really would like my produce to last me longer. Thanks!
Any chance this works on Avocados or are there any special tricks for keeping them fresh longer? I hate throwing those precious fruits in the compost >.
Thanking you for the information. But just wondering some people use a straw to get all the moisture out. But I thought it had to have some moisture in the bag. Many thanks .
That's what I was thinking. Moisture over long periods creates microorganisms. Maybe invisible but id say they are still there. I think that the best method is to eat what you pick. When its harvest time then its also time to can or start baking up a storm. Now I want zucchini bread. 🤣
I like this! but I have a question.. I unfortunately have a fridge in my apartment provided by the rental with no control for the humidity control for crisper! And too much humidity in the fridge and am having a hell of a time finding a solution to keeping veggies fresh.. It is so frustrating... I'll try this and see if it makes a difference.. Thanks..
I was wondering that too because he didn't mention it. A lot of videos I watched suggested removing air either with a straw or sucking it out and then you can use DRY paper towel. This is the first video that I have seen that mentioned WET paper towel. I guess I will try this method out and see how it goes.
I found your channel by accident on purpose. If that makes sense. I can't cucumbers and they always get rubbery and I get so mad. And I buy lettuce shreds and lettuce in a bag but after a couple of days it's gross and nasty and I have to throw it away and it's expensive. I've tried putting it in a bag and sealing it and making sure nothing gets in it but I guess the piece of the post was the wet paper towel so I'm going to try that. Because lettuce shreds are like $3 and no one wants to eat a taco with limpy Guppies lettuce shreds. So who would have thought it put it in a ziplock bag with a wet paper towel close the ziplock bag and there you go
Great idea 'How To with Doc', it really works. I've used plastic containers and (even better) glass jars to store veg this way for years, the good thing is that you can use the containers 1000's of times. As he mentions it leaves more oxygen if the plastic container is too big. Just put it in a smaller container. Try to keep the containers about the same size as the veg.
If you're after saving plastic bags, bags used for veggies can be washed and reused. If you use a bag with MEAT it's recommended you then discard the bag.

Thank you, you are great at explaining and you should be a true teacher
Thank you can't this believe how simple this solution is. This issue has been driving me crazy. I will try this today.
I’ll definitely try this. Thanks for sharing

Deborah Eisenmenger that’s why I came here for my piggies 😂❤️
Thanks. I just came back from the supermarket and was wondering how to keep the produce from spoiling. Thanks. How can I keep the Has d avocado from spoiling?
I am going to try your tips about the cucumbers and the pepper. Thanks again.
Exactly as mother always stored her fresh produce, I do the same. It definitely works!
Hey Doc, I just saw your video.. I'm just found your channel.. Love the veggie idea. I started doing this some time ago. And it does work!
I am definitely going to try this. I stopped buying vegetables because they just go bad so fast and I don't eat them fast enough. Thank you for the video.
Thank You for the tip, I too put a wet paper towel over my celery and it can stay for about two weeks.
Great tip, thanks! I was also using paper towels (inside a plastic bag) but dry ones, now I'll try wetting them like you do and hope the results will turn out far better. The freshness of the lettuce you showed was quite impressive to see. :)

Thank you so much for this tip! 😃
WOW!!! Thank you so much Sir!!! I am going to do just as you have said.
Thank you, Sir, for this very helpful video. I will certainly begin this with my next produce purchase.
Thanks for the tip, I am definitely going to try this out...
I love this idea! Will it work with spinach and spring mix lettuce as well?
Thank you for the tip I am trying it today.
I thought this was another lawn video, lol! Thanks for the tip will definitely try it!

It is absolutely true. I happened upon this method several years ago. I guarantee you it works.
I recently learned this in mid 50s but it's great to know so iv subbed n shared.

I feel stupid but you saved me a bunch of money. So simple and what a great Idea
Facts!!!! Been using this method for years!
Celery cleaned cut and in foil
Works perfect and crisp longer
Thank you! I'm going to try this right now!
I'm gona try this method today! Thanks for sharing! 😄
Very informative glad I watched! Thanks for the great content!
Thank you I'm going to my refrigerator right now lol👍👏
Thank you for your tips.
My grandmother always put wet paper towels around produce in plastic bags. Yet another thing the older generations knew that we have lost.
Thank you so much you are a life saver awesome 😊👍
That’s awesome information. Thank you!

Going to do from now on ! WOW ! Thanks.
This makes so much sense...as 2 why stores keep veggies moist...they shud have signs on this info tho.
thank you for the tip, doc.
Thanks for sharing. I hate wasting good veg because you can't eat them fast enough. This will safe money and time. I'm in love with veg again. Lol
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE SO HELPFUL TO ME!!!
It works...….. :)
Any chance this works on Avocados or are there any special tricks for keeping them fresh longer? I hate throwing those precious fruits in the compost >.
Great tip thanks
Thanks!!!! Can’t wait to try it 😁😁😁
How often should I replace the wet paper towels?
Thank you for sharing
Excelente!!!
Thank you thank you
Thanks I needed this video
Cool tips, thanks for sharing 👍
I didn't know either! Thank you.
Thanks Doc it works
Are they freezer bags or vegetable bags with the wholes in them?
Thanking you for the information. But just wondering some people use a straw to get all the moisture out. But I thought it had to have some moisture in the bag. Many thanks .
They get the O2 out. Yes that helps.
I was wondering why we should wrap celery in foil. Many thanks
Wow...thank you
I'm pretty confident I'm the only one who caught your Mattress Mack reference. Money back guarantee! ☺️
Wonderful. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing!
Shared.... Thanks, Doc!
Does this apply to ALL vegetables? including potatoes?
Wow, I thought you was supposed to avoid excess moisture, but I will try.
They're plants... water is good.
thanks, i will try it
Thanks so much for sharing I’m trying this tonight if it doesn’t work for “me” I’ll let you know 😀
Could this potentially breed mold or germs?

Thankyou! Brilliant info!
question...l should we wash the veges before storing... or not. Thank you.
Thank you ❤️
Would a wet cloth such as a J-cloth work as well?
this does work, and I have been doing this with mushrooms for a long time they keep very well longer.
does the placement of the wet paper towel matter? 🙂
Wrap celery in tin foil. It lasts an insanely long time
I like this! but I have a question.. I unfortunately have a fridge in my apartment provided by the rental with no control for the humidity control for crisper! What would make this even better is eliminating the estrogen mimicking plastic. Perhaps glass or ceramic containers.
Hello sir. Can I do this with cauliflower?
And what about fruits?
brilliant thank you
How To with Doc, how do I preserve already cut cucumber? Do I use the same method?
Yes...
Awesome, thank you sir , great tips.
thank you, george
THANK YOU!!!!!
It works Awesome 😊
Brilliant!
Truly amazing
Would pieces of a tea towel work instead of paper towel? :)
Yes
The proof is in the pudding. Will try. We'll be back to let you know.
will this work with tomatoes?
Love it!
What about Tupperware instead of a bag?
I do the same thing!!!
This works
Do you take air out of the bags
Yes...
I was wondering that too because he didn't mention it. A lot of videos I watched suggested removing air either with a straw or sucking it out and then you can use DRY paper towel. This is the first video that I have seen that mentioned WET paper towel. I guess I will try this method out and see how it goes.
Does anyone know if there is an environment friendly way of doing this without using paper towels or plastic?
I found your channel by accident on purpose. If that makes sense. I can't cucumbers and they always get rubbery and I get so mad. That was short? Hate to see long.
Nice tip, can I use plástic containers instead of ziplock bags?
Yes... but it leaves more oxygen.

Thank you I dont need to order produce bags
get to it, 2:05. 2:29=content Now if these veggies are from your garden you gain a week from the gitgo
Hope I remember
Dude, you did not come up with this idea. It's been used for decades.
