    One of the best things about my job is getting the opportunity to connect with all these great docs and pick their brains. The topic of ACL injuries is really close to our team here as Louise Fornander just tore hers. How'd we do Louise?

    nice short video to the point. I would like to know more about the graft. What happens when they take a graft from hamstring or patellar tendon, would they grow back?

    • @sportology1
      @sportology1  9 лет назад +1

      guggie - Yep, they do grow back. Although, it seems that the hamstring tendon is the one that grows back a bit better.

    • @barishwalisarkar9462
      @barishwalisarkar9462 9 лет назад

      Sportology ok, but what about MCL and meniscus damage? because normally when you tear ACL, you also damage your MCL and Meniscus.

    • @sportology1
      @sportology1  9 лет назад

      guggie Sure - you'll have to get the meniscus fixed too if you've torn that. MCL, if it was torn, would also need to be fixed. Ligaments don't grow back like tendons do.

    Do you perform single bundle hamstring ACL recon on NFL players. ??
    Is it good enough ??

  • @miniongruminion
    @miniongruminion 8 лет назад +1

    I have done MRI of my Right Knee.
    The report says:-
    1) There is low grade intrasubstance tear of ACL seen near the tibial attachment.
    2)There is also low-grade partial tear of the infrapatellar tendon near its tibial attachment involving the posterior fibres associated with minimal fluid collection
    3)Mild synovial effusion is seen.
    4)A small 8×8 mm sized ganglion/synovial cyst is seen along the posterior margin of PCL.
    Do I need to undergo surgery?
    Or it can be treated without surgery?
    Can I return to running(sports) without surgery?
    Please Suggest the Treatment.
    Thanks!

      +sagar negi sagar negi - gosh. There are a lot of variables involved. What did your doctor say?

    • @miniongruminion
      @miniongruminion 8 лет назад

      I have not met the Dr yet.Is it real bad?

    • @robnelsonfilms
      @robnelsonfilms 8 лет назад

      +sagar negi sagar negi Well, I'm not a Dr. I made the videos though. I'd make sure you get any medical advice from him directly. But, I can tell you that people can function without ACLs. That said, ACL surgery gives you a very strong ligament and is a great option for a lot of athletes. The good news is that you can fix ACL tendons if you need to. A lot of the decision probably depends on what sports you're doing and how bad the tear is. Sorry I can't give a good answer right now for your question.

    ACL surgery leads to arthritis in the long term. Before you go through with this surgery, first go see a Regenexx doctor to see if your ACL can be healed with a bone marrow concentrate injection.

    i have torn mine on a trampoline two months ago and im still in pain... One doctor told me that some people live without ACL is that true?.

    • @robnelsonfilms
      @robnelsonfilms 9 лет назад +1

      +Ata Wells Totally true Ata! But, your ACL does provide a lot of stability to your knee, especially in twisting motions. It'd be pretty hard for an NFL athlete to function without an ACL, but there are a few. Do a quick search for "athletes who played without an acl"

      OK but you do need it for riding dirt bike.?? and playing tennis??

    • @robnelsonfilms
      @robnelsonfilms 9 лет назад

      +Ata Wells Less so riding a dirt bike. Tennis involves a lot of stopping and twisting. I'd get it fixed for tennis if I were you! You've gone to the doc right? :)

      +Ata Wells Hi! I've had both ACLs torn and trust me if i were you get surgery , yes its true people live without it but when you get older your knee will be super worn out .I ride too and
      If you want to keep riding for long just get surgery im getting my second one soon and im going to wear braces forever .you should too!

      I partially tore mine but before it was discovered it had mostly healed. The Drs weren’t interested in doing the surgery because it was basically stable. It isn’t perfect but it isn’t debilitating.

    • @djkocka7922
      @djkocka7922 Год назад

      It wont grow back, but it may still be enough of the ligament left to hold your knee. You need to strenghten those muscles around the knee to help you not tear it all the way
