Got me on the first sentence "I know you, you didn't pick the shortest route to the most money. You don't wanna hack your way to serving whatever the current trend is... you're hoping, seeking, demanding to do something else... to make a change happen". Hell yes. And now I'm subscribed... :D
"You're not entitled to pay the bills by stealing people's attention. On the other hand, if you show up with something that people need and want, and you can be of service to them, then you've done something important."
What a powerful guideline among so many other gems in this. Thank you, Seth and Brian!
"If we try to attach ourselves to the outcome, we will sacrifice the process." and "The practice is its own reward." I will be thinking about this throughout the day.
thanks for watching David
It’s from The Gita - you are entitled to labor, but not to the fruits of your labor.
Good one
I love Seth. He is so authentic. So humble. The perfect Teacher.
I am truly sorry for your loss. I lost my father at the beginning of September and grief has been very unpredictable. Make sure that you allow yourself to grieve. As always Seth Godin is the voice of reason. I agree about getting busy and pushing through. May you have a breakthrough in your book writing, and may your father’s memory be for a blessing always. Peace🙏
revital mitchell thank you 🙏
Seth is so great to listen to. He is right! 2020 is a year when we have so much to be grateful for. I am dismayed when I here people say they want to forget 2020. In Zen they say "everyday is a good day". I am so thankful for the internet and shows like this. I am now 79 and reinventing myself with new projects. I live alone and without RUclips I could be lonely but I am not. It is because of both of you that I get so much inspiration for my projects. thanks
good thoughts
I'm Sorry for the passing of your father.
Just letting you know that you are doing great work here, changing so many lives for the better. He would be proud. ❤❤
Hope to see your book soon.
Thank you Shivam
I emailed Seth aprox.1.5 years ago and told him that he should skip a blog day just to prove that the blog does not control him. His answer was simple and rang true to me: "I Disagree". Simple and so true, because I have been doing 100+(double my age) pushups every morning for a few years now. I NEVER miss a morning. Quite frankly I am afraid to miss a day, as it would be devastating even if I did it purposely. If you go to Seth's website, he has a button to click that will buy all of his books on Amazon (I did it) what a genius. Love your show and your connection with Seth.

"We do this work 'cause we can, not 'cause it's guaranteed to work.
The practice is its own reward. We can live a life of utility, generosity, and connection. And maybe even get rewarded or may be not. But even so, it's the trying, it's the showing up that matter so much."
I'm so impressed that he can give such beautiful wisdom effortlessly.
thanks for watching
What a real interview that was. Two gentle experts demonstrating profound practice for us all. Thank you Brian. I love listening to your interviews and I popped over to this one just after listening to Chase interview Seth too. You both exude an extremely welcome and powerful quiet in the way you communicate.
Its a real pleasure and I always come away more enlightened or equipped or informed or all 3.
So sorry to hear you lost your dad. I remember watching a talk or interview you did telling about how you found your dad. Don't k i.e. if it's the same one you mentioned here but i thought that was wonderful and brave when I saw it. I think Seth's answer at the end here, to you, was so true and considerate. I hope this interview have you as much joy as it did us all. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words Rene!
Seth Godin is simply the best. Thanks for this great interview
This conversation was like a spiritual journey through my whole business in less than an hour or so. Thank you for bringing us a slice of Seth and yourself.
Very sorry to hear about your Dad. Know that you can look for parts and bits of your dad in all the people around you. You asking questions to Seth was like talking to a part of your Dad and I almost felt like I was talking to my own. Wow this was beautiful!
thank you for the kind words
Extremely sorry for your loss. Thanks for being so open. raw and real. It cuts through the noise.
Thank you Stuart
What I like about watching these two talk, it's like two brothers helping each other along the way
thank you
This stuff is so important for real entrepreneurs who constantly put THEMSELVES into situations where they are made to feel like losers, it's just the nature of the game. Having said that, I would say I am so much happier than the average person because there are few who can face their conscience and say "I did this because it was the right thing to do, not the safest". Thank you for this conversation. Fantastic insight into us human beings, as usual, Seth.
thanks Khalid
Seth interviews are always amazing! Don't sacrifice the process for outcome. It's easier said than done, but pure joy in one's work can only be experienced this way. Thank you for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate your vulnerability, Bryan. Very helpful words from Seth Godin on dealing with success/grief/failure/life circumstances.
Got me on the first sentence "I know you, you didn't pick the shortest route to the most money. You don't wanna hack your way to serving whatever the current trend is... tyou're hoping, seeking, demanding to do something else... to make a change happen". Hell yes. And now I'm subscribed... :D
thanks Lilly!
Everything about Seth is a milestone, University, intuitive, and a great Teacher... And thanks for the interview its brilliant, and soon I will be following in your footsteps brother.
Thank you for being real and raw. Your authenticity shines through. And love the message. I'm sorry for your loss. 🙏💜
Kind words, thank you Leah
Never seen Behind the Brand before, but I love everything Seth stands for and that's what brought me here. Bryan you seem absolutely lovely too, thank you for making this and bringing inspiration to us all. And a big thanks to Seth for reminding me to show up :)
Welcome aboard, thank you Jac!
...this was SUPER good - I actually sat and watch the entire - NO distractions! Thank you - so many takeaways ...so much wisdom!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bryan, I’ve reached the end of the conversation and was very moved at the end. You are a sweet and generous person. Gave you a follow and look forward to learning more from you. All my best wishes to you.
Wow, thank you JC...that means a lot
Love Seth. Just got off an online interview about my last book and felt like more of a beginner than I did ten years ago. I really thought I would be further along by now, still so much to learn about showing up and getting my message out there. It was good to hear him talk about intentions and getting the work out there. Thank you for your work.
Thank you for watching Joanne! 🙏 Hope you're subscribed...All the best to you and your book! Here's the next video I recommend: "Why There's No Overnight Success" ruclips.net/video/4UtGHXkGCxk/видео.html
Bryan, thank you for your candid interview with Seth. Great respect for both of you and the work you put out in the world. I hope you finish your book.
thank you Janet!
Please continue doing this! Despite all the alternatives out there, I can say that yours is the most authentic 👍
Thank you! Will do!
27:23 This to me is a key point to realize. Often times I personally undervalue the fact that even 100 consistent views/subs etc.. can be great in its self. Class sizes are avg 30 - 50 ppl so its like having 2 classes of people dedicated to your work.
Love listening to Seth, he just may be the g.o.a.t ❤️ I wonder if he speaks so well because he writes so many books, or if he writes so many books because he speaks so well (and the 7000 plus blogs). I guess they reinforce each other...His casual definition of creative work “doing something human, something generous, something that might not work,” is maybe the best way I have heard it described. That’s it. Let’s just say, he is on to something... The part about “if we attach ourselves to the outcome, we will sacrifice the process; i literally used this today, in producing something that I don’t know at all if it will work, but man do I love the process of doing it, hands in the clay, and figuring it out! I almost didn’t go and then, right on cue, I heard, “you have already made the decision, now do the work” ( I think he has cameras spying on us). So I showed up, and did the work. It might not work but it is better than anything else I could do. I am glad the lights on set didn’t fall on his head too 👏 And you Bryan, are extremely brave and generous, putting yourself into the arena in a vulnerable way, sharing the personal experiences in your life with us , that no doubt will help millions. Thank you both 🙏
Kind words
The person with most accest to Seth Godin!!! Bravo
I'm very lucky to have Seth as a friend
Looking forward to reading this book. He is touching upon something that people are rarely speaking about but constantly thinking about.

Behind The Brand and Seth Godin. Best day ever. Thank you both so much
Wow, thank you!
As a budding creative, this is EXACTLY what I needed to hear today. Thank you!

Watched the whole video but the breaks + ads would put me off if it had been someone I wasn't a huge fan of.
Keep going man!
I appreciate that!
You and Seth shine bright together
Dan Schawbel thank you Dan 🙏 Btw, long time no talk. Hope all is well in your world!
Seth Godin on convergent thinking 9:22 "It means you're onto something. It means that the universe is attuned to you and vice versa."
thanks for watching Val
Bryan, I’m a new subscriber. Came here for Seth but subscribing because of your honest vulnerability about your experience with your father. Thanks for the work you’re doing.
Thank you that means a lot! 🙏 ...if you tell me what else you're interested in learning I'll make another video recommendation from my channel.
Fantastic interview. Love Seth! I'm not surprised of the influence that this show brings.
Thanks Ron!
Thank you for sharing your story about your dad. I can hear how hard that was for you, and thank you for creating this conversation with Seth! I definitely want that quote on a pillow!
Rahul Bhogal thank you
I also think Seth's reaction is incredible. You can see and feel what he feels and that he is truly empathic towards the loss and that's just a great display of being an honest guy. I just stumbled upon Seth a few days ago and I have to say he's got a great character and incredible knowledge it seems. I don't understand half of the things he says in the same way he does because from the way he answers it is obvious to me that I sure understand the words and they make sense to me but he knows more and I just don't yet get the full meaning / depth of what he's said. So that's quite fascinating because I love to learn and understand. I'll eventually "get" you Seth ;)
thanks for the video, this is in my opinion the single most important concept for any creator to grasp. Once you throw away the ego and start just making things, you can't help but find a very deep core love for your craft. Are my best days behind me? That depends. Is that question being asked in relation to how much critical acclaim a piece of work receives? Then sure probably, but that's not my metric. I just want to make the things that I find satisfying and strive to do something new thats interesting to me with each new thing I do. Whatever my latest project is is the best thing I've ever made. It's an culmination of my entire life and all of my experience and gives me a novel sort of satisfaction that nothing else can.
I love this podcast with Seth! Got a lot of value from your convo. thank you so much! Love fr CzechRepublic. Stay safe.

This is very true. I did this with working out. I focused on the feel good of the working out and eating healthy and to my surprise I lost weight lol
I want to transfer that philosophy to other areas of my life.
Just the right video/message for me at the right time. I look forward to your work and value the time I have to learn from you and your guests! Thank you for your commitment to helping all of us be better.
You are so welcome Rich

I'm glad Google stalked my search results for Seth Godin and suggested this video. Because of Google, I now learned of "Behind the Brand". Thank you for this, and keep up the great work. And sorry for your loss.
On second note, that "Master Class" course/program. I seeeen so many ads, to the point of annoying, on Instagram. I haven't tried it. But maybe, advertise Behind the Brand on there? All the best

So keep on keeping on.
There are whole legions of us out here, who are managing to keep at The Work because of this content, because of your work. The fog might descend, or the clouds might cast some fierce shadows when life comes knocking, and our heart bleeds for you when it does - but we will be waiting. When you are ready, when the work is ready, we are glad to have you.

Good Day, Why are the musical artists in your video (opening & ending) not credited? Did I miss it?
Your sharing of your time and talent is appreciated. Aloha
this is royalty free music so often times the artist isn't listed
@@BehindtheBrand I get it, yet it seems appropriate to include the artists for 2 reasons. 1st some of your audience will appreciate not having to backtrack/search to find the contribution. 2nd, I forgot the 2nd... Something like, if I use your content, you deserve to be recognized for your work & talent.
Then again, I don't have a dog in this race and most days my give-a-shitter is broken.
My intension is to be helpful. I mean no harm.
Mahalo ,🤙🏼
David’s Phone it’s all good… In my experience sharing details about my music choices, even if it’s done with the best intentions, ends up getting copied and stolen by my competitors. Doing it this way helps me break away from the herd...
30:05 “Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare throw another book in the trash. Your job is not to be better than the old Liz Gilbert. The old Liz Gilbert’s gone forever. The old any of us is gone forever. Your job is to be the best version of what you’ve got right now based on what’s around you and the change you seek to make. Don’t play covers. We need new originals.”

I read his email every day. I am an artist start my own gallery 15 years a go and still using Seth Godin Marketing Principles. one that i use all the time is giving something extra after closing sale and can not be point of sale. surprise customer. I paint back of my card very simple small figure of woman. they never treat my card the same as everyone else because of original work of art they keep it and a lot's of them they even frame it and they remember me and my gallery.
Not just for Liz Gilbert, but for those who doubt themselves ("Imposter Syndromites?"), "Don't you dare throw another (of your "books") in the trash!"
