Vicuna Bravery In the wild, I have read, vicunas live in harems with one male and several females. When something seems strange or dangerous, The females wait while the male goes to investigate. Sometimes his bravery costs him his life. Then another male leaves a bachelor herd and takes over the females. Ormand has the guard instinct to move ahead and investigate. He has a bachelor herd but even so he is the brave [foolhardy] one. Onyx is Chief Bachelor but he is not as curious and protective as Ormond. There are shades of leadership.
This is a useful observation. Ormand is curious and often the "first". Now, the other machos born on our farm follow him -- for example, Ormand was the first to explore Petra's pasture, and the younger males followed. Onyx is not curious. I am learning about human behavior through alpacas, especially the bosses who exert a lot of energy protecting their #1 position. I can easily see the coloration with human beings.
Ormond likes the new pasture! He goes with you because it's a nice place, I think.

Six flies on the camera! No wonder you want to escape the flies!
