I see some folks aren't very keen on the Clodbuster or Tamiya kits in general. In the early days of RC they were top notch. The majority of their kits are the same as we remember when we were younger having fun building and driving them, or wishing we had one. Sure, they're quirky and aren't modernized that's part of the fun. It's pure grassroots RCing. Some people understand and love the Tamiya nostalgia, and some just don't get it. One of the greatest things about this hobby is there is something for everyone no matter your taste. Thanks for the great video Greg!
Yeah, I'm one of those , Tamiya kits were top notch in the early days but there is just so much higher quality stuff out now that I don't get the love for Tamiya still. Options are good though and people can buy what they want, I hope it makes them happy.
Tamiya has always been nice quality because of where they are made at JAPAN. Some of Kyosho still made in Japan and some in China. But most of all RC is made in China and very low quality …
I love the experience of a Tamiya or Kyosho kit. There is something personal about building your own kit. Just like many don’t understand the Tamiya kits; I don’t understand the RTR cookie cutter 50+ mph kits that launch 30ft in the air.
ya you had TYCO which had the advertising, but they were a throw away car, parts were hard to get, and they broke easy. Tamiya was the Hobby Grade you could get and enjoy for years.
Never had a Clod Buster. I got my Black Foot in 87 then the Clod Came out a few months later. It was sooooo EXTREME! As a 8th grader I was in AWww. “It’s huge and has TWO motors!!” Might have to buy this one now. Relive 1987.
Had a original Clod buster but no longer have it. After seeing this video. Really love the colors. Think it looks sharp. Plus found out my local hobby shop has it in stock. There available here in Canada. Might be my Christmas gift to myself this year 8) Thank you for the awesome review.
Just ordered this kit today! Always wanted one when I was a kid. Friend of mine had a Kyosho Double Dare but I could never afford any of the dual motor monsters. My 14 year old self is stoked but my 48 year old self is rolling his eyes. It's plastic, it's slow, it's bouncy but there is something special about the Clod Buster.... The Hobbywing ESC included is a great feature, with modern electronics and batteries this should be fun.
I was like “THERE IT GOES “ once you threw the 3s in it , getting some air and bouncing on those huge tires . Nice truck . Loved the video, ohh the memories of the good old days 😂
My first clod was the black edition. I quickly gained three others after that. I modified my black edition to dual brushless and run it on 2s packs and it's almost too much to handle but it is a blast. My wife is building her regular edition super clodbuster now and I just gave my father in law a super clodbuster for Christmas. I have a clodbuster I'm rebuilding out of parts but had purchased as a runner for 10 dollars in a local shop. This makes three in my house. Love these trucks
Dude that 3s really brought this Clod to life! Absolutely awesome! Looks fantastic too good job and a with a great esc! I love that on your videos the way you build these tamiya's right from the box, even the crappy plastic bushings lol but it gives a completely accurate review! Yeah lets face it we all use ballraced bearings and hotter motors from the very start of our builds but not a novice so its good to see a completely stock tamiya running as the buyer would build and run it and know what exactly what to expect! Great vid buddy but me being in the UK could miss this one?😫 l did have a Clod years ago and it was epic but only have two tamiya monsters now the Monster Beetle and Midnight Pumpkin so really do want the daddy in my collection again one day soon! The biggest thing l have is the Traxxas Stampede but nothing tops the legendary Clod Buster! The original red is my favourite choice but this gray pops into 2nd place just above the Black version.
Im seriously thinking of picking this up. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania. I have a big yard and my driveway is gravel and 80 yards long. This sounds like it would be perfect where i live
This is the best Clod color scheme IMO. Really tempted to pick one up. Had an original back in the day and remember how many different upgrades that were available. Still a desirable kit to have in your collection.
There's a special place in my heart for Tamiya but I never liked the clodbuster I always thought it was slow and goofy, my pals had them and they never seemed like they had as much fun as I did with my Blackfoot and Blitzer Beetle considering they always wanted a go with them.
Ive loved this truck since I was a kid in the 80s and couldnt afford one of these trucks. I have many other RC vehicles now including The LMT and the Nitro USA one, but This color scheme came out and I decided it was time I had to buy one. This is an Awesome looking version of the truck..
This thing looks sharp! A low shot of it coming off the jumps with 3s in slow motion would be awesome! Still have my original clod from around 1988. Has Trinity monster mash motors , ball bearings and oil shocks. Eventually it got an ESP chassis too. Still have all stock parts though.
I already have two and building another with the help of my CNC so don't need anymore clods but that does look so cool 😎.. 3s is perfect on those stock 27t motors they take it very well, 4s gets a bit silly lol and the motors get hot fast.. Loved to see the running video 👍

I still have my original since 87 its been a black edition since day one lol I never liked the red and 87 the Grand National was the baddest ride out there black was the thing. I also have 2 rx540vz technigold motors so I can run 8.4 volts. So you know the big hole in the side was a power switch high and low, where you out the esc was the receiver spot, then in front was for 4 aa batteries to power it then the in front of the the 2 posts was where the mechanical speed control went and the servo was just in front of that pretty cool all the provisions for that are still there the on the back body posts was the resistor the round hole was where the antenna went through the bed of the truck I have a few videos up on it if you want to see a real early version

Nice what I’ve been waiting for, I was wondering when u making a clod vid, I just bought the new gray edition at my local hobby store 2 days ago I dunno I’m starting to love the gray more than my black edition the colors looked so cool but they both looked good will be my shelf queen except the 2013 rerelease, I now own 4 Clodbuster’s, the 2013 rerelease, the 2020 black edition, the 2022 the gray Edition, and my 1990s original bullhead (clod 2.0) all in box and ready to be built I never gotten the OG 87 but it’s all good I’m satisfied of what I got thanks for the video! 😁
I always wanted a Clodbuster when I as a kid (had a Blackfoot), now that we have such awesome monster trucks like the Losi LMT I don't see a point in having a Clodbuster unless you're a collector. I bought my LMT roller when they last had the big sale, so for only about $160 more than the Clodbuster I have a really awesome brushless MT on 3s.
My first rc was a tyco turbo hopper and my first hobby grade rc was a black foot I loved it more than the clod buster because it was low maintenance then i got the clod buster and after that nothing else for the next 20 plus years I recently got back into the hobby I have a trx-4 , red cat racing gen 7 pro red cat Everest 10 traxxas rally car
They should do ok with 3S and stock motors as long as you’re not hammering the throttle on landings. I’d get Robinson Racing pinions though. The stock aluminum pinions are soft and wear quick.
I had the original all stock except for the motor and frame I had an aluminum cantilever frame i pretty much used it as a basher I’d save soda cans to crush was the coolest rc I had I would have modified it further but life got in the way and put my money into more important things so i didn’t have any free time to run it anymore so it sat in the closet for a few years then i gave it away
I get the whole history and keeping it the same tamiya thing and believe me I want to do a clod build but at over 500 to do it I can't justify the price if you wanna sell 30 year old tech how about 30 year old pricing lol did I mention I still wanna build a clod buster

@@kyleparker3653 I replaced mine in a sense with an E MAXX. Give me an E MAXX with the Clod Buster body, and the Clods tires and for me that would make a winner.
4S is just too much for this particular model...too much slop in the steering to handle the torque/speed you'll get from a 4S battery. 3S is just about PERFECT with stock motors and ESC.
Nah, you just can’t drive it like a slash or Maxx or something, it’s not a truck to jump 10’ in the air. parts are readily available, just repair it when it does break and keep going, the clod is an amazing truck!!
Too expensive, Id pay 180usd max, but its 300usd ++ only noobs buys it. With 400usd u can buy any prokit trucks or buggy which is a 10x faster more fun and more durable

My Hobby Town had 2 of them. I bet they are gone!
Red body on new edition
Fascinating to watch your shill technique develope over the years
The body looks cool but it looks like something you'd buy from Walmart and looks to toyish I know it's probably not spelled right
First comment!
For 600+ I would rather get a arrma kraton 6s
Terieble Suspension !
Square body life.
Cool one but not a basher, which means i belongs on shelf as shelf queen, sooo...kinda disappointing.
Nah, you just can’t drive it like a slash or Maxx or something, it’s not a truck to jump 10’ in the air. parts are readily available, just repair it when it does break and keep going, the clod is an amazing truck!!
Right, so you get yourself a LMT for bashing and your set. One for fun, one for thrashing
I’m sorry did you say “something really special” or something REALLY slow?? Cause that’s what I see. Looks like a Walmart special cruising around.
If you charge your batteries in less than 8 hours you aren't getting the authentic experience
Looks like toy grade to me.
sorry but it looks like a new bright from Walmart!
Too expensive, Id pay 180usd max, but its 300usd ++ only noobs buys it. With 400usd u can buy any prokit trucks or buggy which is a 10x faster more fun and more durable
are you sure you love it that much? be honest ! it's mediocre at best !
Absolutely love it. I understand the Tamiya RC culture. It’s literally one of the best selling trucks of all RC time so I’m not the only one that appreciates the model.
@@rcdriver "It's a Tamiya thing". ^_^
I have the blue super clod. Love that truck
1200 in canada nope way better out for 1200
1200 what? dollars? They're $469 cad
