I hope you enjoy coming along for the journey! Thanks for watching ❤︎

    Hey folks - I'm sorry I apparently lost some of the sound in the rendering process that I was not aware of until after I posted the video. And it just seems like not a big enough deal to take down and re-upload. So, there's a few unintentionally quiet moments around the 12 and 24 minute marks. I hope you still enjoy the video!

    Hi from Australia. I love these videos and would love to travel to the US to explore the outdoors, however I am terrified of bears. I am planning a trip to the US in the next few years. Any advice on hiking in the US. I have just watched Back country on Netflix

    • @heathers8623
      @heathers8623 Год назад +1

      Here's what I've learned. Make noise when hiking so bears know you're a human (sing, talk, say "hey bear" on occasion). Carry bear spray clipped to your belt loop or pack so it's easy to grab. You can rent bear spray easily in bear country since you can't take it on a plane and the rental place will show you how to use it.If you run into a bear on a trail, don't automatically use the bear spray. If it's calm, walk away slowly facing the it so it doesn't think you're prey. Sometimes they'll keep walking towards you because they also want to use the trail. If you're able, you can back away off the trail to let it pass. If it charges you, use your bear spray. If you're backpacking, get a bear canister for your food.
      When you park at a trailhead, put all food and anything with a scent (like deodorant, chapstick, etc) in a bear box if available. Some areas say a hard sided car is fine. If you're camping, store these items in bear boxes, in your own bear canister, or sling it over a tree in a sack. Try to cook away from your tent.
      Wherever you go, research the area and speak with a ranger so you know what the local rules and recommendations are. You'll also want to learn about encounters with other wildlife, like moose and mountain lions, depending on where you are.
