    Chuck Norris was respectful and honorable. There is no need to establish some hierarchy or for Chuck to show unnatural deference. Bruce Lee was a master martial artist, without doubt. Bruce was already good at high kicks before he met Chuck because he and Jhoon Rhee were learning from each other in 1964. When u see that old screen test that Bruce made he was demonstrating high kicks in that. U don't throw kicks that well unless ur practicing them.

    • @friktionrc
      @friktionrc 4 года назад +14

      yeah thats the misconception. Lots think he didnt know how to kick high, where as, he just felt that a more effective kick would be a low kick ...e.g kick to the groin...much quicker as it's almost a snap, than a head kick/knife edge kick to sternum, even spinning heel kick.
      As the great man himself says, you take what is useful and discard the rest....or it put it another way, do what works for you. It'll take loads of practise to do a high kick that is powerful, fast and catches your opponent off guard, where as anyone can do a quick kick to the groin (something most non Martial Art folks cant or dont know how to defend against). Groins kicks have been practised by every guy on the planet, from school boy fights onwards...everyone has done it, and everyone has had it done to them...thats why the 'unwritten' rule of street fights is not to kick to the groin as it's considered off limits...problem is, with more and more people having the 'pack' mentality, the days of a fair one on one fight are long gone...so now anything goes.
      One caveat to all this is, no matter how much training we have, we have no idea what the other guy is brining - he may he faster, stronger, have a knife, gun, or 4 mates just around the corner waiting to jump...so, only fight when there really is no other option. Stay safe one and all 🙏

    In a street fight would I advise kicking above the waist? No. Lee and Norris are both very fast at it, but the fact of the matter is, it’s an extremely vulnerable position. The leg is usually grabbed and the person taken down. Kicking below the waist (jeet tek, thai kick, savate kick to groin, oblique kick) allows you to quickly compose your balance and boxing footwork. Bruce’s deadliest move is the straight eyejab like a fencers strike. Easily the best attack to take down a large opponent but you will blind them for life. Any decent amount of damage to the eyeball is enough to drop someone to their knees, and when you have the footwork, speed, and power that Bruce had in his jab, you’re talking brain surgery with that thing! Also the move isn’t a “one trick pony” you can keep shooting it like a Sugar Ray Leonard jab but with fingers extended like a spear. I also feel that landing the eyejab is actually easier than landing a groin kick.
    What Chuck forgets as a Tournament Karate guy is the viciousness of street fighting with no ref to control it or separate you. Bruce’s style wasn’t to knock out his opponent or beat them on “points” - it was to kill them before they killed you! What you saw in Bruce’s movies is not how he would dispatch attackers in his home in the middle of the night. The movies were for him to show his flexibility and skill. A real altercation would probably be eyejab/straightblast/headbutts/knees and elbows. At mach 5.
    Watch his trapping technique in Enter the Dragon with “O’Hara” and replace the punches with eyejabs. It’s all in his book.

    Since Bruce Lee has never competed in person, it remains to be seen what he might have achieved,Bruce.Lee was not interested in sports competitions in karate,Lee was interested in fights on full contact. Jim Kelly, for example, suggested that many martial artists with whom he conducted training fights and sparring in full contact did not fully disclose their capabilities, because they wanted to protect their reputation and the reputation of their rivals. The sparring between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, after which the karate champion left "with a red and embarrassed face," was attended only by Richard Bustillo and a Los Angeles police officer. Chuck.Norris lost the sparring match.
