I think that IK multimedia got it backwards, they should have released an Amplitude pedal, with Tonex software. Instead of a Tonex pedal with Amplitude software. Enjoyed your work around and your piece of music at the end.
totally agree but this video does seem to fix the solution but would be much easier to transfer Amplitube presets into Tonex not just the other way round. Either way Both software is amazing but not quite streamlined properly.
Thanks so much for going to the trouble in presenting this very comprehensive and wonderfully explained video. Amplitube5 has many more and better features than building/editing in TONEX. If you can do a workaround so easily and effectively Jason then it's a shame that IKMult didn't just make Amplitube5 the TONEX interface in the first place. I have already built many presets in A5 that I'm really happy with. When I got my new TONEX pedal I fully expected that I could simply drop my A5 presets onto the pedal so I was dissappointed to find that I could not. It's just bizarre that there is a whole new and seperate (and inferior) system to contend with. I don't have a Capture/Reamp box and never really wanted one - just happy using models. So now I'm thinking do I really want to spend the extra time & money getting my stuff into my TONEX pedal? I don't know. Keep up the good work Mate.
This adds value to tonex pedal....by not only capturing tones from amplitude 5, but opens the "possibility" to try and capture tones from overloud, bias fx or neural dsp...and other digital vst amps.....thanks!
That was fun, and a clever solution. Might open up some new ideas on getting even more out of the ToneX Pedal. I suspect you're great at mazes and puzzles. 😉
Very elegant solution man! Incredible video Jason. Hey, two quick questions, I hope you'll take the time to reply: You said the TONEX capture box isn't necessary. What can we replace it with if we don't have it? My second question is: This type of solution can be used to capture ANY "digital amp/cab" not only Amplitube. I don't see why it can't use other software as long as they will be able to share the digital interface signal along with the TONEX. Would you agree? Thank you!!
Hey Shalom, thanks for the message! Instead of the Tonex Capture box in this situation, you could use any Reamp box. There are a many on the market. And yes, this solution can be used to capture other modeling software :-) Hope that helps!
Thank you for such detailed video... Though you didn't show I guess you could have also add a few effects in front of the amp in amplitube and then send that complete signal back to tonex for capturing right? And that would certainly be a great use of this process to have that particular preset into the tonex pedal at the end of the full process ... Thank you for your confirmation..... What seems clear to me is that we can not make tonex pedal interact within amplitube at the moment of playing so we can tweak a bit with effects let's say on stage... Guess that is absolutely impossible right!?
although is really really cool you can capture full signal chains including Amplitube it seems the preset would be set in stone so you could control all the parameters of each step of the signal chain. still pretty cool though for now.
Ideal? No BUT, for all of those really great plugins we love, it's still giving us the versatility of getting it onto a reliable, stageworthy pedal so from that standpoint, it is a very handy pathway to getting all the tones in one place. Using the Tonex at NAMM, it was impressive and I've just recently got one as well. Time to see what it can do! Cheers to Northern Ontario from Northern Ontario 🤘
Hi, is this still the way or has the integration tonex pedal amplitubemax gotten better? Does anyone know if we are looking at improvements in the upcoming (Nov 2024) update?
Can you briefly explain what goes into the ToneX Capture Box? ex- Output 3 goes to what on the capture box, Line input or from amp? also, what goes to the back of the capture box, (to cab or to amp) Sorry for the many questions,,, kinda confused...perhaps a diagram 😊or maybe if anyone that has successfully done this, I’ll appreciate it.
Can I use the IK Multimedia AXE I/O the same way you used a reamp module to capture your Tonex model? And since the axe i/o is also an interface, wouldn’t I just be able to select it as the output and input device to feed the signal back into it for the capture without having to use any additional cabling?
Jason help!!!! I have a clarett 4 as well and I cannot figure out how to setup the focusrite I/o with the tonex capture box. The focusrite I/O software is a nightmare!
I am trying this with a UAD x8p and nothing but a looping feedback!!! Following what you are doing only thing is I don't have the capture box. UA has decent Hi Z inputs so I thought that would be sufficient? Not working. May try two different company Interfaces and see if that stops the loop?
Hi Jason, always a pleasure to watch your vids, thanks! Do you think it’s possible for us, Helix floor guys, to use it as a capture box to model our pedals? After all, it has enough inputs/outputs, plus the ability to change them to lnst/line in/out. If it’s possible, this could be a great idea for a new video… just saying 😂
Hi Yuval, Thank you and really glad you enjoy my videos :-) Unfortunately, Helix does not have the ability to capture models of hardware gear. You could most certainly use the Helix with Tonex accomplish what I did in the video. Hope that helps :-)
Oh, I meant to use the helix routing instead of a capture box in order to capture with ToneX software (for people like me, that don’t have any capture box), unless it’s also not possible? Thanks! 😀🤘🏻
HI Jason. I watched many of your TONEX videos and I couldn't find an answer to the problem I'm having: How do I connect the pedal to the TONEX MAX software in the Audio Settings. I would like to hear the output through my computer speakers. Tried two ways, both didn't work: one way: asio technlogy, using ASIO 4ALL v2 driver. In that driver I'm selecting TONEX input and my computer's speaker's as output, but it's not working. Second way, I installed the ASIO driver by IK Multimedia, but then I can only use TONEX in the Output Device and it seems I will only be able to use the physical output out of the tonex pedal, not my computer speakers. If you can help with that it will be beyond appreciated. Did you make any video on how you're setting your audio settings in Tonex Max ? Thank you !!!
Jason i have the free versions of Amplitube 5 and Tonex and is there a way to choose different Tonex cab sims when Tonex is in Amplitube 5?I am on the Black Angus Amp and Cab model but cannot find a way to change it to a another Tonex Cab or Vir model?I also tried the Tonex tube screamer OD model while in Amplitube 5 in front of the Tonex Black Angus Amp model and it sounded very good better then the Amplitube 5 green tube screamer OD,the Tonex OD filtered out more low end and sounded clearer then the Amplitube 5 OD!I wish you could use Stompbox models in Tonex with there Amp models?Maybe IK Multimedia will do this in a future update? The stompbox models would need there own effect block so you can edit the parameters just like you can on the real pedal!
Hey Jim, Yes, you should be able to click on the cab at the top and a list of your Tonex cabs should be displayed. If that is not happening, right click on the cab button and make sure it is not locked. Let me know if that helps :-)
Jason i tried what you said but still does not work, the tabs for the Amp and Cabs above the Tonex Black Angus Amp model or any other Amp model do not have the up and down arrows when Tonex is in Amplitube 5 stand alone version or in a DAW but if i am only in Tonex stand alone version or Daw the up down arrows are there to select your Amp or Cab models?I guess you cannot change the Cab models in Tonex if you access it in Amplitube 5?Jason did you try it yourself to see if it works for you?
This is a serious game changer for me. I use Amplitube 5 in conjunction with a lot of post processing in Ableton and get fantastic results so the TONEX seems redundant to me unless you could do as you explained in the video. This video also gave me an idea that you could take this one step further and not just capture the Amplitube 5 amp and cab tones but an entire Ableton instrument rack with Amplitube at the beginning of the signal chain and then the EQs and reverbs and different things I use to create my own guitar sounds. Then I could capture all my instruments racks and have them in TONEX and then take TONEX to a jam and only need a cab. Can you please tell me if I have understood correctly the concept of your solution? Because if yes I am one happy bunny. haha
Thanks for the message! The only thing Tonex can capture is the distortion pedal/amp/cab and eq changes. It won't be able to capture Reverbs, Delays, Mod fx etc. Hope that helps :-)
@@JasonSadites hey Jason thanks for your reply. From what I could tell tonex what recieving just an audio signal from amplitube so what would happen if u tried to capture a guitar signal which had effects on it?
So if I don't have the inputs (SSL2+) on my interface to set it up like you have, could I just record the Amplitube into my DAW and then feed it back out to my Tonex to sample and capture?
I was wondering if it was possible to capture my UAD amp plugins into the pedal. I don’t really have an amp worth capturing (84 Laney Tube Fusion head, 4x12 cab) it’ll be cool to load captures of my UAD amp sims and others from the ToneNet community
Great video but do you know if they're coming out with an app for Android? But as long as I am able to get tones off the PC I guess I'm okay with that for now pedal is coming soon thanks
Another good video but what a mission, you need the capture box, a decent interface and a science degree. Why can’t they just include effects in the pedal then it would be more attractive?
Hey Paul, this method in the video is not for capturing any sort of FX. It is just to capture the raw amp tones and any eq that is applied to them. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
@Paul Rolfe unfortunately not. It is for capturing raw amp and cab tone and overdrive/fuzz pedals only. It does include a reverb, compressor and nose gate for some basic fx.
@@joshuasydnee yes for regular playing, the Tonex pedal is JUST a pedal. You can put effects before, or behind the Tonex pedal like any "amp" with a pedalboard, or rack system.
Kind of absurd they anonunce the tonex pedal with VIR technology and then not be able to transfer the custom VIR cab setups in native mode. The VIR cab's within the tonex without any tweaking are pretty bad Imho...

This should be just a feature in the software to be honest.
Even if they made it a paid add on to the software, I could see the value

Thanks so much for this! Potentially you could do this with any guitar software you have with a capture box. Really amazing!
Would be cool to model the Rockman x100 that is in AmpliTube. Just adding to reasons why I need one of these in the loop of my Helix!
It would be crazy to cascade captures together, Like Overdrive in Front of an amp
