One of greatest male r&b vocalist of all time!!Periodttt
HANDS DOWN THE GOAT!!!!!
It has been said that when the Bee Gees heard this version of their song, they said that this was how the song should be sung. Al Green is as good as it gets.
Wow -- years ago I walked into a doctor's office and they were playing the Bee Gees original version of this song. There was another patient sitting there as I came in, and I said, "I know they wrote the song and sang it first, but it belongs to Al Green." She smiled and nodded in agreement.
So true!@@misterdoe
It's my 1st time on your channel. This is not that kind of song, Lil Sis! The song is melancholy. Just like you're gonna give Al Green another chance so will I of your channel. I'm gonna watch some of your other videos.😊
Al Green is amazing
How Can You Mend A Broken Heart was written and originally released by the Bee Gees. The song is not talking about the heartache of losing your main squeeze as most people believe, but speaks about the agony the Brothers Gibb faced after their period of breaking up as a group and of not speaking as brothers. A sad piece of trivia - Barry Gibb once confessed that he has to live with the fact when each one of his younger brothers died, it was during a time when he wasn't speaking to them.
1971 Bee Gees, I looked it up.. ♠W.G.
There is no difference...a broken heart is such a special pain that it transcends the cause of the break.
@@eharris3021
Facts. 'Cause, at a certain point...the "cause" of the heartache doesn't matter anymore. You have to deal with the pain.

"A broken heart is such a special pain that it transcends the cause of the pain."
Damn!!!!
Say that $hit again, chile!
This is pure soul like Collard greens, Fred Chicken and Cornbread! Rev Al Green has Soul oozing from his pores! Truly a great great R&B/soul Master!
🔴🔱⚫️
Dwn here n SC..a local show Job Man Caravan..job info + plus this talent n more that ..well...you hear it
Don't be sleepin' on that sweet tea, cuz!
Not many people can do a Bee Gees cover and kill it like the Rev. Al Green.
You definitely have to check out Al Green's live performance of this song from 1972. That performance blows the studio version away.
Yessss it's awesome
This is not one oh Al’s biggest hits but it’s one of my favorite songs by Al. I think you should listen again. Think about heartache and pain of not wanting to live but finding a reason to live. His vocals are amazing on this . Takes you to church and preach it to you.
This song really speaks to the heart in a gentle way to soothe you when you are dealing with loss. When you have to challenge yourself to keep moving forward. Al does that in his music as well as anyone ever has. The background instrumentals/vocals are purposely not overwhelming because they compliment Al's slow delivery. But, it is a much needed song and great in it's own way and purpose. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a cover originally done by the Bee Gees. Al put his own spin on it. Some other Al Green songs that might like better are: Let's Stay Together (a bop), Love and Happiness, Look What You've Done for Me, I'm Still in Love with You. Al Green brought a gospel flair to pop music. One of the greats vocalists of all time!
It's a very emotional song. His heart is crushed.
Live Version is🔥🔥🔥 He's actually tame right here
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL is my all time favorite of his.
Listen to it live, please & thank you!
You're right; she needs to listen to Mr. Green "Live."
Young lady..just so you know..back in the day if you couldn't name at least 3 Al Green songs you could have your Black Card instantly revoked with no process for appeal 😂 Don't believe me..ask your granny😊
Al was one of the greatest pure singers and entertainers of all time. You should check out "Simply Beautiful", "Love and Happiness", "What a Wonderful Thing Love Is", "Look What You Done for Me", "For the Good Times", "Guilty", "I'm Glad Your Mine". His "I'm Still In Love With You" is one of the greatest albums ever released. I would put it up their with "Thriller" and other greats. In fact in my opinion it was better.
There is a LIVE version that is much better. Al's facial emotions when singing made his songs iconic.
I respect ur honesty.....on this song, u dont get the full AL Green effect. It is one of my favs by him though.
Classic soul at its finest ✌🏾
This was written and recorded by the BeeGees and was their first number one song in 1971
Something wrong with you. How much more soulful can a song be?
You should have watched the live version it's better
You cannot deny pure soul music.Als vocals and backup singers brilliant. This song is a masterpiece.
AlGreens style sets him apart from all others.
Not my favorite Al song either. Let’s Stay Together is a vibe tho
Try "For The Good Times". "Funny How Times Slips Away" w/Lyle Lovett. Al Green is so incredible, and I LOVE him singing this song.
Amazing Al Green 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌💖💖
Try the live version but he has some more that’s you would like. Love and happiness. Let’s stay together and for the good times.
Al Green will take you to church Sista!😂
The emotion Ashley, thats what carries this song.
Well said!
U can't do too many al green songs
Live version way better
Where are the details on cash app?
Listen to the live version
Ashley you must see his live performance in his plaid suit!
You my girl Ashley, but don’t mess with Al…we go way back lol!
I’m 72 young so that will tell you how far back…lol!❤
Exactly!
Ashley!!!!
Do a reaction to Al Greene singing his song called For the Good Times.
Compare it to Al's version of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
I know it's been awhile but had you listened to the Al Green broken heart live rendition totally different Vibe 🎉
Facts!
Isaac Hayes- walk on by
You’re going to have to react to the original with The Bee Gees. I love Al Green’s voice but to really appreciate the beauty of the song you have to listen to The Bee Gees the writers of this song. It came out in 1971 by very young Bee Gees and became their first #1 hit for them in the US. ❤❤❤
Back Up the Train...one of All Green's first hits is what got me.
You probably will like Love and Happiness (up beat), Let's stay Together, or For the Good Tims.
When you get a chance watch the live version 1971 or 72, my preference. Also the live version of For The Good Times on Soul train. Thing is Al is going to take his time to sing a song. He wants you to hang on every word.
I think you really would love the live version.
You should react to his live performance to this song on soul train cause he really killed it fr
watch his live performance of this
You need to listen to all his music i would like you to listen to for the good time that's not the only song he made
This song is not a love song, it refers to the break up of the singing group The Bee Gees. "How Can You Mend.." was never released a single by Stax Records, later in 1978 Vogue released it as a 45 rpm. This tune was written after a breakup of the Bee Gees. “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, originally released by The Bee Gees, was the lead single on the Bee Gees album Trafalgar. Primarily written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, this song was the groups first U.S. number one hit! The song was written after a period of distance between the brothers. The writing of the song helped bring the brothers back together. Billboard ranked the track as No. 5 song for the year of 1971. Lyrically, the song is genius. Its central question about how to mend a broken heart is answered in one word never actually uttered by Robin Gibb: Love. Barry and Robin wrote the song as they were bringing the band back together after the Bee Gees had split up. It really is a song about the brothers and for the brothers but it reflects the universality of sorrow being vanquished by joy, the joy of love. This most human of truths will remain a constant as long as people live. Al Green's one and only number one hit was in 1972, Al Green went to No. 1 on the US singles chart with "Let's Stay Together," his only US chart topper.
Back then, people sang to capture the mood of the song and music. You have to have some finesse! You can't go vocally crazy all the time. If you didn't like that, try Al singing this song live!
I think you picked the wrong song. He didn't write this one. Check out "For the Good Times" (also a remake), "Can't Get Next to You" (another remake), or "Im Glad You're Mine," an Al Green original.
Try listening to Let's Stay Together or Love and Happiness or Unchained Melody/
I really love this song. But I get what you're saying. It's perhaps unique in that it's very bluesy, yet in a major 7th key -where normally it would be in a minor. And it is a cover of a Bee Gees tune. He goes off on his interpretation -in a good way I think. Deeply emotional and using that blues groove with the major key. Pretty cool.
I think it’s the beat that’s throwing you off. It’s a 3/3 instead of the usual 4/4. It’s like a waltz beat…. 123, 123,
This song was a hit for Al Green, but it is far from his best. Try listening to "For the Good Times", "Love and Happiness", and "Let's Stay Together". I promise you'll have a much better reaction to those classics.
I don't understand. This song was written specifically to showcase the outstanding harmonies of the Bee Gees. Barry and Robin Gibb wrote it with this in mind. Al Green's version is like comparing an AMC Pacer with a Ferrari.
In the postapocalyptic movie Book of Eli Denzel Washington tries to fall asleep in a cruel world somewhere under ruin of a tunnel with his own mind full of sorrow...he put on headpones and with this song he fell asleep. All Green just save him for a while from his pain. Never heard a song that can feel your pain so perfectly and for a while turned it to something almost beatiful. You don't feel it, which could mean, that you are strong and happy :) First hearing - Hall & Oates - Everytime you go away.
You should react to his Live performance to this song. It is awesome!! You will hear how he puts his feelings into the song.
Exactly!
New Birth was a classic group consisting of smaller parts (similar to P Funk). Their band was called the Nite-Liters who had plenty of hits.
So many better Al Green songs to me... Love & Happiness, Let's Stay Together, Take Me To The River, Let's Get Married Today and others made us swoon
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Al Green
You're not going to like them all, "How do you mend a broken heart" you should listen to that on a Sunday evening after 7pm relaxing sipping on some wine or your favorite drink.
Now with that said, give this one a try, Al Green's "For The Good Times"
Ashley:. The production for this song was trademark Al Green. Willie Mitchell was the producer of most of Al Green's greatest hits. Maybe this quote from Willie Mitchell will help you understand what he was trying to do in the production of this song. "According to Mojo magazine, producer Willie Mitchell instructed the band to imagine "they were sitting by a river, a forest across the water, with all this music coming out of the forest and floating across the river, kind of delayed.""
I like your honest critique but I think Al Green's singing embodies the lyrics perfectly. Listen to , " For the Good Times"
Listen, growing up, Al Green was a favorite in my house-my parents/sister had one of his albums but, he never did it for me and don’t y’all come for me 😂
Was listening to Al back in the 70s. This song was good but,... Listen to "Pretty Woman"
Hi Ashley, I enjoy your reactions. You are beautiful and 'you give it a little bit of everything'!
Ashley there are people who look at Leonardo da Vinci's, 'Mona Lisa', or Picasso's, 'La Vie' and their reaction is, what's the big deal, they looks like any other paintings to me. So, not everyone who hears Al Green gets his music.
Watch his videos. Makes a big difference.
Radiohead - Nude
If you havent already heard it. If im not mistaken, the song had taken inspiration from this very track, to create the feel of Nude. Hope you get to it someday, Ill be there
Al Green has soul in every cell but on this one, they're trying to do a gospel slowdance deal. "Let's Stay Together" is real Al Green..imo.
This is a good song but I like the original recording by the Bee Gees better. They wrote and recorded it first. Give that a try if you have the time.
This is a favorite of mine. I appreciate your honesty though because that what reactions should be; honest! Al was the man back in the day thugh. He definitely had his own unique style. That was what made him so special.
May I request you also rate and react to Otis Redding - How Strong My Love Is 👌🏾💯✅
You might be too young for Al Green. Lots of meaning in his songs. The original by recorded by your boys, The Bee Gees.
In fairness to the Right Rev. Al check out Let's Stay Together and some of the other songs on his Greatest Hits album. If you still aren't feeling him after that the alright.
Ashley, have you heard the BEEGEES sing this song? FIRE+
Ashley have you heard 'you're still a young man' by a group by the name of tower of power? I think you might like it.
Also, check out the live version of this (he's in a plaid suit). It is unbelievable.
If I not wrong I think I heard Beegess's Sing this.....not sure if it's his original or they're's
Al Green singing Let's Stay Together is one of my favorites. But I prefer the Bee Gees original of this song.
Some music especially slow jams have to grow on some people. This song was originally done by the Bee Gees'
Should have checked out the live performance. That would have been a hell of an experience for you.
Yes, do some more Al Green ( he's amazing )
We don't what to tell you but Al Green was the man in my day he was love songs and if you can't feel it I feel sorry for but he's one of the greatest singer's of all times 😢
Please do an reaction to Barry White's "Staying Power "!
Ashley it's ok. Us old heads know this church music mixed with the blues.
Still in love with you is what' you are looking for. Come back to me. Also
I can appreciate your honest opinion. Some songs take listening to them a couple times for it to grow on you but as another person commented, Al Green is as good as gets.
Oh, people who have experienced real broken hearts be really feeling this. It's not about reacting violently, or wanting to commit suicide, but just plain being under control dealing with hurt heart issues. Much tougher for people of today's time.❤
I would love to hear you react to Aaron Neville tell it like it is I think he would absolutely love that and it would leave you speechless
check the Bee Gees original version. of How do you Mend a Broken Heart.
His greatest hits album is a must own
Al Green will get you keep listening👍🏾💯😊
Sister Ashley, you need to do the live version from 1972 of this song.
Did you know Al Green was discovered by the great producer Willie Mitchell, the great cousin of Drake?! Drakes fathers whole family lineage is full of musicians.. even his great grandfather.. His father played with James Brown and Uncle, played with Prince.. shyt crazy!
What a voice!
Not sure if you mentioned this but this is actually a Bee Gees song! You should check that out
This is real soul music that's y u can't get into it young people don't have that 70s soul this was of the greatest songs of all time
you have to listen to Soul Train Live version of Broken Heart
Al Green, Bee Gees, Jose Feliciano all legends who sung this beautiful song and sung it beautifully.
Anyone who does not think this is one of the greatest sang ballads in history has their ears in their butt.
Yeah you need to do some more eldraine I'll go in as one of the greats. And that song one of his greatest😊
