This vlog really illustrated the different locations you can travel on canals. Those tunnels, the enclosed feeling at times, so different from so many open country canals. Was an interesting experience. Well done girls tackling those locks in the wet
Real industrial bit of canal under Manchester. Those locks look horrendous, especially with the chains but lovely to see the colourful flags and flower tubs. Just as well to do it with another boat especially the dark one. I think I saw the two ladies striding through Bollington last week while waiting in my car for an appointment. Hope you liked it. It’s very nice to live here!
That was an interesting cruise, I wonder what propulsion they had at the time because there seems to be a lack of towpaths along the stretch. The ladies did very well under such bad conditions, well done both.
great vlog on channel cranking it and going up the locks with great frends and working the locks as a team good see smuge on the roof wear he likes to be good see frend cranking it on the cut goos see the locks done good see tony in the vlog as well stay safe and keep up the vlog thanks lee
Great vlog with Happy memories I've been boating since 1994 only with GRP boats but in 1965 when I was a apprentice coach builder I worked for the Williams group and our arches were all the bars by the second lock after the Gaylord tunnel (now Deansgate) on apprentice day we took the mould off our Commer minibus roof onto the canal , It sank.lol had to get it out before we were sacked..Happy days, Did the locks back in 99 with our Dawncraft on our way too moor at Guide Bridge where you will go soon, Someone posted they were the worst locks obviously they haven't done the first few on the Ashton side of the Huddersfield canal, Once again great vlog ,Take care. 😊
@@LifeonboardAmyJocan't remember what the locks were like in 66 In 99 they weren't that bad there was like a floating bar moored ear canal st and the last lock before the Ashton was padlocked to stop you going through if you hadn't paid the fee for using the flight my wife has the sum of £22 in her mind but she says she could be wrong (that'll be a first for a woman).lol.😊
As usual another awesome vlog. Don’t need smell a vision, I can only imagine what it smells like. Yuk! Sorry Smudge about the rain. Dodger doesn’t like the rain either. It can be scary walking on slippery surfaces. Glad no man or woman went down. Love the 24 hour moorings. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
The canal map through Manchester is really helpful. Very interesting and different voyage through the city. It had a science fiction 'vibe' with high rise buildings, lighting, weather.
Wedid the Rochdale 9 downwards so your first lock was our last and I was exhausted but on a "high". Actually really enjoyed the flight, was on a Sunday morning so loads of families about. That lock 92 was the worst leaking just as it is now way back in 2009 ! It was a reet devil and the other lady who came down with us was a bit older than me at 60 and the pub was full all watching us old ladies trying to get that gate open. Despite them all being such heavy locks I really enjoyed them. We did at least have really good weather ( for a change) which also helped. We actually were able to moor up against the building by the Ashton/Piccadily junction so felt really safe . I see it's all grown over now . Thank you , was really great to cruise up the Rochdale 9 with you. We have some great photos of our trip down all those years ago. We did get water bombed just before Picadilly and the guy ahead of us was bricked ! Ashton was more scary than Rochdale to us .
Wow thank you for relating your experience if the locks. We found them hard work but like you we enjoyed the challenge specially as we had friends cruising with us so that really helped. We too thought they were better than the last time we did them in 2017
Always looks a challenge those locks remember Robbie doing it single handed. That bit under the building’s looks very intimidating. But love Canal St bit but then I’m biased lol 🌈. Great vlog indeed. Best wishes. ❤
We did it recently after not having done it for 10 years - much easier now than it was then! Just wish the local community and city would embrace it and make it a feature the way Birmingham have.
We did those locks in the opposite direction way back. I think we came onto the Rochdale Canal from the Ashton. In those days - no drugs, no graffiti, no gay village. Just extremely leaky and broken lock gates. A bit of a nightmare as we all had some sort of virus! Not the happiest of memories. I think your trip was better.
Steve There is an underlying threat on the Rochdale Nine but I have never had any trouble. What you should have done is lashed the boats together and gone up with one helmsman (or woman) so that the ladies had a male presence to help with the locks and offer protection. BTW when you said mercilessly, I think you meant mercifully. Jeff
As a Mancunion,it makes me ashamed of the dump, how Manchester has lost its identity in the last 40 years,it was a joy to work in and socialise, sadly no more,I now avoid at all costs, the tourist only see the good side of commercialism

We like to show the canals in their varied looks and locations. They are not all greenery and countryside though thats what we prefer to the cities

Hi Marilyn.Bollington is really lovely and we like it there. In fact we said we’d like to move there when we give up boating

Interesting thought that Ken. Wonder if they had to leg the boats through in those places?
I would think they would have to be super human.

Wow loved the minibus roof story. I can just imagine the fun you had. Were the locks bad back then?

Thanks Brigid. It was rather difficult there but we managed and actually enjoyed the challenge
Good to see a different view of Manchester.
Its certainly different 😊

Cool, thanks Frank!

The worst set of locks in the UK. Manchester and the CRT should be ashamed of them.
Sadly more and more locks are getting as bad. Crt doesn’t have the resources to fix them all sadly

Thanks Trevor. I think the LBGBT community have the right idea using all the colours for their flags. Brightens the place up
We did it recently after not having done it for 10 years - much easier now than it was then! Just wish the local community and city would embrace it and make it a feature the way Birmingham have.
We agree. If only the community would band together and tidy the place up a bit the locks would look so much nicer and feel less intimidating

Ih dear nothing worse than working locks and not feeling well is there
Steve

We did conciser pairing the boats up but in places that wasn’t possible due obstructions. Yes I did mean mercifully 😊
Hi, Well that was interesting, but my probably the worst length of canal I have seen. It might be colourful un some eyes, but NO thanks.
I agree it does no favours to encourage people to visit the place. I personally was glad to be out of there

It is such a shame as the city has so much going for it if it would only clean itself up a bit
