Caould I, as a private fungi lover, just hang out nearby & pay a more reasonable price for them but still lots less than the retail? Or is this not permitted?

    We korean call it "song-ii"
Yes, they are so expensive, precious mushrooms in korea, too.
But white song- ii can be hardly found for us.
We can only see dark brown song-ii in korea.
Anyway, congrats on taking so many of them^^

      Wow~
You had experienced them once to be incredible. How lucky you are !!^^
I'd been living in the city, couldn't have any chances to see natural ones.
So im satisfied with other cultivated mushrooms at the market.
Agree with your opinions that the problem is people overpick them from nature.

There are some species that cultivate well ... oysters for instance, but many, including pines and chanterelles won't have it. There are many, many people who still forage for food and other materials. You should try it, Bob :)

It is very sad to know that we have these mushrooms but due to not access to international market we are not earning enough money. I wish I could access international market . I am desperately waiting for alibaba and Amazon to enter Pakistan.

I was up in weed, California hunting these mushrooms and got turned around lost. Had a couple hundred dollars worth of mushrooms but ended up eating it all. 2001 I think prices got up to couple hundred per lb.

Travis K Every year in autumn my wife buys a piece of matsutake mushroom in bamboo basket at the cost of $ 12. She cooks "chawan mushi" In my dictionary it is "a custard-like dish containing shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, vegetables, etc., steamed in a cup." Be in safety not to meet a wolf.

No, humans cannot cultivate matsutake on farms. They depend on mutualistic relationships with trees and only grow in deeply disturbed forests. Technically, it is through human interference with the forests, in the form of deforestation for timber production, that has caused the increase in matsutake in Oregon. But that of course was not intended for matsutake production.
