    For people wondering why I clip this.
    1. I think it is important for both viewers and independent vtubers to understand some of the inner workings of what it is like and the struggle that independent vtubers will face. This will hopefully make people more appreciative of what they do and be more prepared once they hit the same wall themselves.
    2. I want people to watch more independent vtubers.
    3. I have weird taste in clip selections.

      2. I really appreciate that (hell, i discovered a few thanks to your clips) and i wish i had more time to spare for them because there is plenty of talent
      3. Nah, you dont have any weird taste at all (remembers some of the Mea, Miu, Oto and Hana clips and MORE importantly, the Ritsu clip).... ok, i may understand why you think that but i think we are in the same page here, right?... right?

    She went really went in-depth. I know what she means. I have watched 5 streams at once before trying to keep up with as many people as I can, but it just isn't possible to keep it up if you actually want to listen to the content and interact. Lots of people are trying hard and they are entertaining and make me want to support them, but it's impossible to follow all of them at once. So many good peopl, but so little time. I ended up just keeping up with only 4 Vtubers at once. Even then I can't even keep up with all their tweets when it gets really busy for me.

    • @haato3053
      @haato3053 3 года назад +9

      I know what you feel mate. I too am exclusively watching Vtubers that have lower than 10k subs for the past months. I usually try to watch 2-4 but it's just too hard, if not nigh impossible. They're trying their best to entertain us and I want to contribute in the best (which isn't much) way that I can.

    • @Yoyuu
      @Yoyuu  3 года назад +9

      A bit part of watching multiple streams at once is really just switching between whenever there is downtime.
      Nobody can be entertaining 100% of the time, rather than waiting for them to hit the high note again I'll sometimes watch someone else in the meantime. Just leave the volume lowered so you know if you want to switch back.
      I don't think people actually watch multiple screens and be fully engaged at all times.

    • @patzchan1900
      @patzchan1900 3 года назад +3

      Yes they have a long way to go before reaching popularity of actual youtubers that you can have a sigh of relief unsubbing from vtubers you cant keep up with knowing theyre in....good hands?????

    • @codeotaku8857
      @codeotaku8857 3 года назад

      @@Yoyuu Oh so it isn't like everyone is just that much better at multitasking than me lol. Ya I think that is good method. I have changed the volume before, but often it is because one person's stream looks like they are about to do something really interesting so I want to hear what they are saying. That said generally I feel like I like hearing what they have to say. When they are just playing a game and concentrating, I might feel less of a need to pay that much attention, but when everyone is talking, that's when the 4 person limit for me really goes strong. It starts sounding like a cafeteria and you are trying to listen to everything but end up processing nothing. The easiest thing to process is when everyone is doing a game stream in which you can just watch and turn off your brain. I might actually suck at choosing which stream to concentrate on since I always end up going, "I want to listen to this, but I also want to listen to this."

    • @codeotaku8857
      @codeotaku8857 3 года назад

      @@patzchan1900 I wouldn't say that. Everyone is working hard and I'd like to support them regardless of how popular they are. I generally don't unsub though. If I have time and someone I don't diligently follow is streaming, I'd just hop on their stream.

    I'm going on an old Holo clips binge atm, and I stumbled back to this channel. If ever you read these comments, I just wanted to say I apprciated a lot your contributions to the early vtuber environment. The two clippers I immensely respected were you and Neko Mikuri, because not only was it obvious you put effort into your work and were very invested in the vtuber sphere, you also took the time to interact with the community, take feedback, open dialogue where you feel it is needed, etc. I hope wherever you are, you're doing alright, and that vtubers haven't lost their magic for you yet. Cheers 🍺

  • @Penmorex
    @Penmorex 3 года назад +35

    Shes done a lot to try and get more english viewers but the fact is that a lot of the indie vtubers rely on the spanish community a lot more. As to why that is its mainly because the ones that have more spanish audience nowadays are the ones that set out for them or saw there were more of such viewers than english. I've seen several indie vtubers try for a year or more to get english viewers but nothing worked not even english only streams and english karaoke. Its only within the year that more have come to watch any vtuber because of things like holoEN but before that it was hard to try and garner any kind of attention if it wasn't something like ASMR. You also have to figure that the schedules for streaming would collide with a lot of the more well known and while opening a tab is nice and all not a lot of people even do that. These vtubers don't have the backing of huge companies and so spend their own money which they likely have very little due to expenses to even start streaming. Some indie vtubers started with companies but a lot of those companies soon went under because of failure to grow or the company itself saw it as a waste of finances to keep the vtubers. Tenten is actually one such case along with Healthy and another girl whose name i forget since she doesn't stream anymore. I could say more but honestly its just so much thats stacked against them that it'll take too long. TLDR; Indie vtubers do indeed have it rough and if you find that one you really like try to clip their moments if you can since it'll help them be spread around a lot more.

    • @Yoyuu
      @Yoyuu  3 года назад +12

      It is certainly harder because HoloEN is now an option for the English community, and most have issues catching up just from that.
      I would say that the reason that EN didn't really take hold is because of the abundance of translated clips and the lack of consistency from the indie streamers. Most of them will do English specific streams once in a blue moon. If it is a regular occurrence at set times people will more likely return.
      RUclips algorithm isn't very kind to small channels, so they could be trying English streams and their subscribers won't even know that they're doing it.

    • @Penmorex
      @Penmorex 3 года назад +1

      Definitely agree with this. I have seen very inconsistent schedules for a lot of them but that just adds to the struggles of not being part of a company that helps create an environment where you could just stream and not worry much about anything else.
      The english streams they do are as you said once in a blue moon but then there are those that tried for more than a year regularly and even studied but nothing came of it. I know at least 5 or 6 with that kind of situation and unfortunately they've all quit after seeing 0 growth from their efforts.
      I know its asking a lot for people to support a random indie they might like compared to their top corporate Vtuber but i just wish they'd give them more than just a passing glance even if its not english. I mean, isn't that how most people got into vtubers before they had all these clips anyways?
      Thats just my opinion though as someone who has seen the struggle for even corporate vtubers to get to where they are now.

    • @Yoyuu
      @Yoyuu  3 года назад +9

      @@Penmorex For the ones that do it regularly it usually doesn't take off because of two reasons.
      1. They don't have solid enough of a fanbase yet so youtube isn't sending anyone to their channel.
      2. It is too heavily focused on English learning, and each stream feels too similar. There's very little point in watching someone struggling with duolingo every day.
      As for clips, it can't be helped. Most translators are doing this as a hobby. These people will try to promote their favorite vtubers. It actually takes a lot of time to learn the characteristics of a person to translate them well. If this is skipped you're going to get closed to machine translation. The ones that are doing this for money will focus on whatever will generate the most traffic, so it will always be from the more popular vtubers.

    • @JimmyBoombox
      @JimmyBoombox 3 года назад

      Then there's those JP indie vtubers that have a majority Portuguese fanbase.

    • @BennyKay455
      @BennyKay455 3 года назад

      @@Yoyuu I've noticed many that can speak English, and do English streams, don't in their normal streams (beyond the odd superchat or rare reply). So they do an English (or Spanish, etc) stream, you say "this is nice, I'll check out her streams", then you go to their streams and not a word is spoken and you've got no idea what's going on... making the stream effectively impenetrable to the new would-be viewer.
      If I could get a message thru to them (without seeming like a jerk), it would be to try saying a little about what's currently going on every now and then in the other language/s. From experience, it doesn't even need to be very often at all. It gives the viewers a toehold into what's going on and what to talk about in the chat. Things grow from there, with the English viewers talking amongst themselves and giving the streamer English chat to interact with.
      I've seen even big corporate streamers with this problem, with something like "I can speak English, so please join in" in the description but never any opening for English speakers to join in.

  • @robiel0105
    @robiel0105 3 года назад +17

    Thank you for the clip. Normally, the fastest way to increase sub count and your popularity are from translated clips and highlight clips. Although it's sound easy, this is absolutely a nightmare for indie vtubers due to how few translators who actually watch and translate them. As right now there are many translation channels but almost all of them are just Nijisanji and Hololive. Because of the Vtuber trend, more and more vtubers will soon debut and it will make current indie work harder for sub count or they will be erased. I like these deep moments and inside clips like this, they actually show us how hard for being a vtuber, not like you just play video games and money will come.

    • @Yoyuu
      @Yoyuu  3 года назад +5

      For a lot of translators the important thing is to be recognized, so they are more likely going to translate what is popular and will generate a lot of traffic.
      There's very little point in translating someone without an established viewer base, since it is just as much work with way less of the reward.

    well that is still a lot, but you started at 1 million
    lol
    "if you have to pay others to do stuff for you, you will be spending quite a bit"
    that is quite true, IFF.
    have some business fundamentals:
    it is a business, the more you require others to simply function, the more risk you have.
    so if you need others to write music, edit your videos, create branding, create tooling, etc
    in the short term it will be cheaper to delegate the tasks to others. by simply delegating your responcibility to acquire skills, you get to pass on all the overheard of education and work experiance to immediately get the product. however if the task repeats often, then paying the price for contract workers (who charge more for risk) instead of employees, will be more than the equivalent.
    so the perpetual need to do a specific task means you should bring it progressively close inhouse.
    if you need to do it every day, like edit videos, you might want to learn it yourself. generally, tooling which isn't quite professional grade will be cheaper than hiring someone.
    if you need to do it weekly, you might want to hire a parttime employee.
    if you need it multiple times a week, you might want to hire a fulltime employee, and spread the cost around with others.
    and only if it is a oneoff, should you contract high priced, risky, and unstable labor.
    the more you depend on unenfranchised others to get your product out there, the more narrow your profit margin. it can easily run negative. and you wont notice that you are paying more than you get back, at least not for a while.

      You're kind of missing the point. The point that I believe that she's trying to make is that most people considers being a vtuber as a job and not a business, and all the money donated to them becomes their salary.
      The other thing is that there are a lot of work being done that viewers do not see, such as finding the right people needed to make edited videos. The time spent can really add up when a lot of them are already streaming 3-4 hours per day.
      200k is also the apex of the community, most vtubers don't make enough to hire editors after expenses. The majority of the independent scene has been operating at a loss for multiple years at this point. Most of them consider vtubing as a hobby and not a business.
