Philip: subnautica is a very relaxing dreamlike game me: jesus christ this is the most terrifying virtual experience I've ever had. Monsters in the abyss and I can't defend myself from their terror
I kinda wish I had that same feeling. Maybe it was the fact that when I was younger I watched all of JSE's playthroughs as well as Markipliers. Anyways, when playing yes the monsters could be seen as scary and threatening, but really, you're perfectly safe. In my playthrough: (spoilers) -The reaper leviathan never attacked me when I was early game -The smaller hostile mobs (crabs, electro jellyfish, those coral scrap snake things) never seemed threatening -Great mobs (sea treaders, the large end game leviathans) were never menacing nor all too impressive -The deep sea wasn't scary. The only thing I feared, was when I was swimming in rather deep water, in unfamiliar terrain, where I could see nothing but water, and I was swimming in-person. Though that wasn't too scary. Maybe learn to enjoy the fear by screaming then laughing while still frightened so you can experience a great high
@@cate01a I was chased into the open ocean by a reaper leviathan in my early game lol. I have always been afraid of deep water. Most horror games aren't horror games for me especially when you're armed. But ofc in subnautica it's explained the replicators dont make weapons because of past incidents
@@MrSlaughterrific oof, that must be terrifying, forced into the murky, infinitely deep waters at early game about weapons/defense, the seamoth even has great defense; it can tank I think 2 hits, and can safely outrun the creature. The standing robot thing is basically invincible with grappling and enhanced boosters, and the submarine is honestly useless. Though yeah nah it's perfectly fair to reckon you're at a life/death moment there! Must be terrifying!
"Maybe for 2021 I'll focus more on making my own games. Perhaps one with destruction, against the clock challenges, and pretty voxelated graphics." Sounds like a job for Destruction Darius 3
Yeah..until you realise she has to listen to it to the point of her asking "you really like that game, don't you?". Best hint to change the subject ever
something that really crushed me earlier this year was losing my save progress on red dead 2. I fucked up all my local steam saves when I switched to an SSD, and my old 40+ hour save was gone with that. I was really loving the game, super excited to reach it's end after the long long journey it had been. imagining playing through the game for forty more hours is so painful. I love the game, but it really is just way too much of a commitment, even if i skip the cutscenes.
It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I can't help but agree. After beating the game and replaying about a quarter, I really can't sink my teeth into it like the first time, and I'm sure it's spoiled for you if that happened. But just get a save game like the other guy said if possible
Haha true, and I am guilty for not thinking for myself often, but it's really important you develop your own thoughts and opinions, independant of anyone else. Try to think deeply of what he says, and consider how much you agree. If you dissagree, pause and think why. Develop your reason as to why you disagree.
because he thinks that CP2077 fanboys are too forgiveful towards CP2077 and he still dont know why, because theres no exact reason to be forgiveful for with that game
It's bias. "infinite chances to prove itself" -> it just came out...and unlike Death Stranding or Rage 2, it has more room for gameplay expansion. Like how he sucked down Assassin's Creed for the exact same shit but tried to gloss over the "this is the Nth time the game has been done with a new skin" bit.
@@DxBlack I dint enjoy cyberpunk2077 at all, but I enjoyed Odyssey a lot. Cyberpunk's cybernetic enhancement was a huge let down for me, the skill tree too. Gunplay was boring. That said I enjoyed Witcher 3 and 2. I have nothing against CDPR and I hope they will stay away from games like cyberpunk2077 and focus on their strong point, ie: Witcher 3
I come back to this video a lot, because I love how you're able to express your opinion on these games so well with just 24 minutes! I was hoping you'd do one for 2021, but it's already April now, so it doesn't seem like it would happen, would it?
Every retrospective in this style by other content creators starts by them saying "Hey guys this was a hard year for all of us" but my man here seems so happy about being able to game everyday that I just can't
Glad you loved XCOM 2 so much! Enemy Unknown was the first turn-based strategy game I can recall actually enjoying, and I loved how it constantly kicked my ass, but inspired me to come back and do better each time. Truly a great franchise that I'm glad came back from the dead.
A huge part of what makes Cyperpunk feel somewhat empty is the lack of lifelike NPCs. The game needs NPCs that are on the street because they are trying to get from A to B. Not that they're there for you. Red Dead Redemption 2 does that really well, with realistic conversations to be had. Kingdom come deliverance, to me, nailed that as well.
I really appreciate this style of video, which rather than most award ceremonies that try to fit a selection of games into a specific award description, you decide to simply talk about whatever games had most of an impression on you, and award it with whatever respective quality made it stand out the most. After all, award ceremonies or annual look-backs are just an excuse to talk about whatever was most exceptional in recent memory, but there's always some stuff that gets left out or glossed over. This is a smart format for efficiently showcasing what makes these games memorable. Nice work Philip.
I’m so glad you also enjoy Odyssey as a guilty pleasure too! That’s exactly how I describe it. It’s my favorite “Skinner Box” game lol. I just got back into gaming this year after a nearly decade long hiatus so I’m often overly impressed with a lot of games, and I assumed that Odyssey may not be as fun if I’d played any of the other AC games from the last few years. Nonetheless, there’s something so pleasant about that gameplay loop. It’s a gorgeous looking game with fun stealth and combat mechanics, the story isn’t the best but it’s definitely easy enough to get invested into, and the limitless missions, areas, items, characters, etc. to find and conquer is really addicting. Like I said, a Skinner Box. The Radiant AI stuff is my main gripe with it but you can just avoid those auto-generated missions if you want. I’d love to see that sort of thing eliminated completely from these sorts of games and just refine the hand crafted missions they’re already working on instead of providing all this filler fetch quest stuff that just gets in the way of an already massive game. Anyways, glad you feel the same as I do! Lot of people hate the new AC games because they’ve “left their roots” - but I’m fine with it lol. The formula needed to be updated anyways.
i will always Tell people that the first idk 30 or so hours were some of the most fun I've ever had. Gorgeous scenery, gorgeous water, fun combat, everything i need
You are spot on with Cyberpunk not being greater than it's parts. It's just such a mess of systems that don't support each other well. That sort of problem is going to take a lot of work to fix beyond bug fixes.
You know, half the video I was thinking why I like your videos so much but when you talked about cyberpunkt and it finally dawned. Your taste in games is so similar to mine and you manage to condense what I can only feel into words. I hope you will put out content for a long time to come. Take care
I bought both of them based on his recommendations and while I like Odyssey I feel like it's a step backwards in some areas when compared to Origins. I liked the characters, the writing and the tone more in Origins. Starting Odyssey right after I finished Origins felt weird. Going from more serious tone to meeting the dumbass Markos in his vineyard I was in desbelief. The soundtrack is also a bit better imo. I love the mix of old and modern. On paper it sounds like it won't work but it's a surprisingly good and memorable soundtrack. But to be fair I enjoy grinding in Odyssey a bit more for some reason.
i think a significant part about why Cyberpunk gets such strong response despite flaws, is because when you have all the bells and whistles on, it's the most visually impressive Video Game, ever. and Graphics has always outsold everything else, since the dawn of Video Games. we all know that. i think it's a pretty cool game, but sure, it's not as great as people make it out to be.
@@capperbuns no, that was No Man's Sky. Cyberpunk is more underground than that. No Man's Sky got promoted on like, a dozen different TV Shows. even people that don't play Video Games heard about it.
@Ayy Lmao i agree for the most part, Gameplay should come first - but that hasn't ever been true for the buying Customer base as a whole. alas. that being said, interesting ideas to make visuals better or do it more creatively, is also very interesting to me from an academic standpoint.
I started xcom 2 this year and took your dirt rally philosophy into it after wanting to reset over and over and over to get a "perfect start" that never came. so much more fun came out of it when i started to live with my mistakes and power on.
I just finished Cyberpunk 2077 and I absolutely loved it, for its story, world building and environments. I thought combat and stealth was fun enough, and I really liked the variation of the missions. It really felt like I lived in that world, and I loved that.
(I liked the game, I'm not a hater) While the story, the world and the characters are really good. Everything else is meh. If you want to compare it to a GTA like then it's missing a lot of things and if you want to compare it to a rpg it's also missing tons of things. And even if you compare it as a shooter it's also full of issues. From balancing the gunplay (I'm level 22 and I already one-three shot everyone with a pistol) to how tense the combat/stealth really is since the AI is very basic. So while it's a good game, don't get me wrong. It's not a very good game and doesn't deserve any awards for his gameplay. For the music, story and world yeah I could agree with that. They spent a lot of time on the visual, but it feel like almost nothing on the gameplay/fun factor.
@@L1eutenantMaster I had fun. It needed maybe more difficulty as the AI is basically nonexistent, but everything else looks fine. I actually enjoyed hacking (and gunplay)overall
I've had a *ton* of fun with Cyberpunk so far. It's quite buggy, but not in a way that really bothers me. I really enjoy the story and side jobs, the first person dialogue scenes are immersive as hell, the combat gets great as you progress in skill trees and get cybeware, and the world and it's lore, vibe and variety is amazing. It's currently the kind of game I really get lost in when I play it. I don't really feel any need to defend it against criticism, because I know the game is flawed and that people's expectations weren't met. I guess I am fortunate that the game seems tailored for me.
You know I think the rest of us who are pissed off is because they complete removed the rpg part of this rpg game. Also is not expectation; they literally promised all those features and the corpo decided to release it before everything is implanted. Is like me selling you a bullet without the bullet.
exactly, people love to hate it but for once a game committed fully to the cyberpunk genre's aesthetic and vibe. no other game wears its influences on its sleeves so much, and there is truly something for fans of all pieces of prior cyberpunk media. I have completed it once, and am completing again now, i had so much fun! It isn't without its issues or difficulties, not 100% of it is smooth sailing/not frustrating and punishing, but neither is any other game.
@@northerncassowary8567 I keep seeing people say that Cyberpunk isn't an RPG and I'm curious to their reasoning for that. I admit I'm not super experienced with RPGs, but to mee there's all the ingredients; There's attributes, skills, weapons, cyberware and gear that you can all level up/customize individually. There's skill checks that you'll find peppered throughout missions and gameplay that can lock you out from certain endings, dialogue trees or results. That's not to mention that there is absolutely a branching story (at least, I've seen significant differences between my first playthrough and my second based off of the choices I've made) I know it isn't a complete "blank slate character" game, but I still consider it to be an (action) RPG. Hell, The Witcher 3 is pretty unanimously considered to be an RPG, and Geralt is more of a well defined and "locked down" character than V is. I don't mean to attack you because you think the game isn't good (I know it's got flaws, even though I very much enjoyed it. Oh, and the state of the console version of the game is indefensible) I just want to know why it isn't an RPG to you.
@@northerncassowary8567 You can put points into stats, put more points into perks, customize your cyberware with like 12 different hacks to choose from, or get rid of the hacks entirely and slow down time instead. Are you sure you're not just biased and nitpicking?
@@BangersAndMash98 honestly if cyberpunk is not an RPG i don't really see how witcher 3 is an RPG either both for me share a lot of the same strengths and flaws and ultimately i just like the combat in 2077 more
@GSG After Death Stranding I went back to old Kojima gold like "We had helped turn Zero into 100" and "You are above even The Boss, I hereby award you the title of Big Boss" and even "But I live on, through this arm!" and I say this is a core appeal of his writing and I wouldn't have it any other way. If anything, these lines are getting better over time,
Honestly, I didn't even care about any of that. I actually quite enjoyed the UPS delivery segments of the game. My only real problem with Death Stranding was...well...everything that wasn't delivering packages. Particularly the bullet sponge behemoths towards the end that only seem to exist to stall out a game that at this point had already overstayed it's welcome, while undermining the original appeal of the game. Having to go through Clifford's Call of Duty section _THREE TIMES_ was really something else. I don't mean that in a good way.
@@wisemage0 quite a good way to sum it up. The first time you encounter bts you shit your pants, its incredible. First time you encounter the yellow suit guys that try to steal your shit you think, ahh that's so cool while shitting your pants. But when you realize that there are no consequences, when you realize how little these obstacles matter to your traversal, how much they only matter as buffers and padding, how easy and monotonous they become shortly after your first encounter... The gameplay gets pretty stale and the mechanics that are meant to carry it through to the end become largely irrelevant. It's a good game, it's quite fun at times, even addictive building up your network and playing resource management but the allure of the game. Traveling through rough terrain, planning your venture, avoiding enemies and hiding all fall to the wayside so quickly. Luckily the fantastic scenes and acting keep it going but it's a very self sabotaging experience in many ways and often too obscure for its own good.
Thank you for being a RUclipsr that doesn't spam most of your videos with sponsorships and other pushy nonsense for the algo like shouting and stalling. I know you are doing this deliberately, and so it makes me feel appreciated as a viewer.
Stalling and shouting does not favour your videos. Shouting just tries to make something subpar more exciting and stalling is just trying to hit 10 min without addtional contet which most would find bad
@@la33sIt is theorized that shouting at the beginning of your video and maintaining high energy actually increases watch time due to some artificial hype. That's why you see a lot of these hype beast channels shout at the beginning or so, you explained this yourself in your comment, but it's done for the algo in mind. Stalling content is to get it to 10 min without it needing to be. Both of these tactics are basically used by most RUclipsrs, so when I see someone not do it, it's commendable.
You mentioned that a large number of people seem to completely disagree with you on Cyberpunk, and I think you were right when saying you could be having a completely different experience than many of us. People can have a very different subjective experience with the same content, but what I'm talking about is the objective stuff. A few examples: your footage - and that's just for this video - showed way more bugs and more severe bugs than me and 6 of my friends saw during all our playthroughs combined. Some of us did pistol builds, and nobody said they were underpowered, in fact the opposite, we could easily fight any battles with pistols on very hard. I also personally used stealth a lot, and I could handle almost all situations without a struggle. I believe you genuinely had the objectively worse experience you described. I'm a game developer, and I've seen this countless times: something specific to a certain person's PC setup or playstyle can mean completely different experiences. Things that seem inoccous could have major impacts. A little overlay program installed 2 years ago and forgotten about causing visual glitches, or using the game's exe directly instead of using the launcher halving frame-rates due to some extremely weird OS stuff. I've seen someone with a shaky finger hitting a lot of the buttons twice in consecutive frames accidentally, bringing the repro-rate of dozens of extremely rare bugs up about 10000x, making him skip mission triggers regularly which in turn broke progress, caused animation glitches and didn't set combat related buffs and states causing too easy/too difficult experiences, broken AI and unfinishable missions. I think this difference in experience is the cause of a lot of the defensiveness in your comments. When you say the game is bad due to 'X', but 'X' is objectively false in most people's experiences, it can come off to them as if you're just making up reasons to say bad things about the game. In reality, both experiences can be true at the same time. Maybe not rushing the game out could have helped bring your experience in line with others. Maybe you would still have disliked the game if it ran as well as it did for me and my friends. I just wanted to give you my take on this as you really sounded dumbfounded and annoyed about how so many people could enjoy the trainwreck experience you had. Maybe people just genuinely had a different time with it.
To comment on you cyberpunk bit; from everyone ive asked, thats played the game, they've had a variety of different bugs some barely getting any but some minor visual stuff, occassional tposing (tends to be quite funny but less immersive), to downright gamebreaking bugs where i had to verify my game files and reload a previous save (i had 2 of these moments throughout my playthrough one being crashing which turned out to be a massive missing file i had, another being a suitcase locking me in a hotel room where nobody else had this glitch, you can guess what mission this was). It's weird because it feels each bug is different for everyone which in my mind doesnt make sense. I enjoyed my 45 hours of the game and will play it through again once they've released some more content for it. I think the cult mentality is more around CDPJR rather than the cyberpunk game itself, I was hyped by the game but saw fatal flaws such as the PS4/Xbox drama etc. I appreciate the game for what it is and its been fun to play it, I enjoyed each different playstyle that it and looked at it as more of a "rogue like" game. I know you can get this with *any* game but i feel the expectation for cp77 is to play it however you like; RPG? there's aspects for it but feels a bit unfinished in my opinion. Build a cool class? yeah sure i built my character as a hacker, engineer, katana-wielding, supressed revolver, playing stealthy most of the game. I understand where you are coming from that there feels like some aspects are underdeveloped in terms of depth therefore don't allow you to fully gain interest in it. I do believe that stealth should be reworked a little as it can be very OP. Yes IK i only spent 45 hours in it but it gave me enough for a impression and review, i will fully 100% the game when i replay. For now i want to finish witcher and more No mans sky, thanks (if you read this)
I'm so glad you talked about Cyberpunk. My main issue with it is why it picked the TTRPG as its setting. It takes out so many unique and retro-futuristic aspects from Cyberpunk 2020 that it's confusing to me. It's also strange that they took a TTRPG, an RPG that lets you do pretty much anything because an actual human can improv a response, and gave it an extremely linear story with skill trees that don't make you feel like you're a unique character but it just feels like the same protagonist who's decided to use an assault rifle instead of a shotgun. 2077 is just bleh to me and didn't give me what I wanted out of it, but at least I got a relatively ok 70 hours of gameplay out of it
1) People who haven't played the game and just going with the hate train; 2) PS4 and Xone players; (Seriously, it is unplayable on ond gen) 3) People who skip dialogue and cutscenes; 4) Morons.
@@marcoseduardo3408 Literally had one guy claiming the game had no decision making. When I asked, he had only read through the first mission on IGN, never played it lmao.

2:24 oh yes YES YES YES YES. Seriously though you have got me into fusion 2.5, and I can't thank you enough I love making games so much. I've been waiting for destruction Darius 2 devlogs for a while now so I can't wait for more videos. Keep it up dude!
Phillip I just want to comment to tell you that I love the videos you make on this channel, especially in the last year about the greater valve sphere. Definitely one of my favorite channels. Have a great 2021
Cyberpunk is such a weird game, I'm always left feeling bad for people when they don't like it, because I really do, although saying that I wouldn't be able to give a reason as to why. The game is very broken, very underwhelming and very mediocre, but it caught me, granted I haven't dumped many hours into it (20~) it's a game I like going back to, loading it up when I have free time and just enjoying being in it. I'm not even someone who can normally stay with single player games for long sessions but Cyberpunk can easily hold me for 2 hours. I have no idea why anyone would like it, but I love it and wish other people would be able to enjoy it as much as I have. Great video though as always, really well thought out and incredibly entertaining for what is effectively an opinion on some games
I agree, I've just sold my 2080 before the price drops and cant run it on my 980 and I've been craving the game since. I love Death Stranding and RDR2 and theres something about just taking my time and exploring and doing jobs that makes me lose track of time, I'd play it for 30min but 5 hours had passed and I never even got to the high level stuff people always show in videos. Took me 7 hours just to get through the prologue and the other prologue. I can see why people would hate or dislike it but the content keeps me occupied and DLC and especially mod support keep me excited. (bug fixes too ofc) Can't wait to pick it up after I get a 3080.
@@Anon.G DS and RDR2 was more geared towards Philip cuz I like both DS and CP2077. And it's how I feel, I wasn't really describing the game at all, just my own feelings. Every time I go to a new area it feels so unique and I just get so immersed and often look around and explore the world. Disagree if you want idc, but it keeps me occupied and idrk why. I also do enjoy the relationships with characters, maybe they're bland when you replay the game but as far as I got it was really fun and felt nice. Not to say the game isnt lacking but OP made that pretty clear above.
@@Anon.G Yeah, no worries and I agree. Philip just said that people who defend Cyberpunk are quick to hate on Death Stranding but I'm in love with both. I actually repurchased DS on PC after finishing it on playstation. Just wanted to point that out so I dont get grouped in with people blindly defending 2077 lol.
@@Variapolis sounds like philip let some assholes change how he views the game, which is a shame in my experience the people shitting on 2077 (the ones who havent played it ofc) are the same ones that dismiss DS and yell how kojima's a hack
Thanks for advising to play XCOM 2 in "easy difficulty, iron mod". I love it! The iron mod creates a constant tension, while the "easy" difficulty setting makes the game a bit more manageable. I would highly recommend it to people like me who finished the first XCOM in normal mod/difficulty (while abusing the quick save/load options :) ) The iron mod completely changes the experience in a way that fits the theme perfectly: You are facing an unknown enemy. You will learn how to fight it. But every lesson will have a price in (your) tears and (your squad's) blood. I grew closer to my soldiers, while accepting the fact that they would probably die... quite a unique feeling in a video game ;)
Cyberpunk is 100% my favorite game of the year. I've had about 2 reset-causing bugs and maybe 20 minor bugs.(though some of those bugs happen multiple times.) I completely disagree with the characters being so shallow it's a negative, I found that my favorite times in the game was doing side quests with those side characters. My biggest issue is the crafting, looting, and upgrade systems. Especially crafting, I crafted like 3 things just to try but I always had plenty of consumables and always had a better weapon than I could craft. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.
@@SpartanForces117 I don't entirely agree. I spent a couple hours busting my chops to level engineering to try and craft my purple story katana into a legendary katana...only to find out that the boxer dude was selling a legendary katana with even better stats than the one I would've been able to craft. Man this game really wants you to use Katanas. re-crafting hax and making myself lvl 2 inhalers was pretty worth tho so I don't feel like those stat points were "wasted".
@@SpartanForces117 I've beaten the game and have like 10+ level ups point things I've yet to spend. The only time I ever actually upgraded any of my skills was only to pass dialoge checks. And I disagree with the higher levels thing. I checked a few times in the late game and still any weapons that fit my play style, I always had better ones on hand. I just used the widowmaker (iconic tech precision rifle) and the silenced sniper Panam gives to you and I could easily take on anything.
You've perfectly summarized how I feel about the new AC games! Something I play occasionally when I want to chill, not something I sit down and play from start to finish
i think this is the real game awards. with your description of the games really make me think about them and think is good play them. Better than an payed Game of the year when you didn't know when money moves the awards but with you I know the only money that moves is what you use for buy the game . :D
Mr Kliksphilip, 2020 was a long year for all of us but your well thought out videos and truly immersing commentary has hit the spot for me and many of us in tough times, thanks for a great year of videos this year
Your love of XCOM2 sounds like the reason I play Rimworld. Growing attached to characters, seeing them gain permanent injuries or even die, yet the colony still goes on.
I loved the world, gameplay(when in free roam), and characters. But the jarring jump from free roam to the linear and slow paced story missions is the reason I haven't played it after completing it
@@akimbominer4782 Slow paced? I bet you both are too young. Give it another try when you are more than 25. You will appreciate the storytelling of RDR 2. Its brutal amazing. I had the same feeling about GTA 4 when I played it for first time when I was 16. But I give it another try when I was 22 and I find GTA 4 story was best in the Franchise.
you definetly played a different cyberpunk than i did, i started off all into blades and things but they were so weak that i switched to pistols and felt they were overpowered, and the stealthing felt extremely easy kinda odd? agree with all the other issues, just did think that the first things you said were very very different from my experience
I went stealth revolver build with an emphasis on crit mods and the Overture revolver, which has built in crit modifiers. My record damage so far is around 145,000, but I can absolutely do better with a respec and more Deadeye clothing mods.
It's mildly infuriating that Philip thinks his experience with Cyberpunk is somehow representative of everyone's experience as a whole. My playthrough of the game has been mercifully short on bugs, I've never encountered a single intrusive glitch in 35 hours of gameplay. It's exceedingly obvious that Philip has a personal issue with the game, something has triggered him for whatever reason and he's no longer capable of giving a rational, clear-headed and unbiased description of the game. I have to wonder what exactly hurt his butt so badly.
@@HueyTheDoctor I've had some bugs but nothing as bad as what I saw in this video during my 70 hour playthrough. I find the game fun even though it has a lot of issues. @@HueyTheDoctor gotta say i agreed with you. Love philips but the fact that he give AC a pass for exact same reason he hate cyberpunk kinda bother me. I enjoy odyssey. But not for a single reason he describe it. - Loot are all about plenty 'ol number just like cyberpunk. That sword from random chest is stronger than your newly acquired golden isu sword. Because RPG! - You never feel stronger in odyssey. Everything about combat is spongy as hell. The combat loop is so damn boring i had to play stealth to have fun. Which is the exact problem i had with cyberpunk. - Quest and content are extremely bloated. Since he love xcom 2 i'd like to see his take on it.
For me it's been my usuals; Team Fortress 2 (hard to get into/learn but literally does everything from every shooter all at once and awesomely), Smash Bros, Breath of the Wild (AC Odyssey but Nintendo'd, and truly honed in on exploration) and BeamNGdrive (please try it, it seems just up your alley! It's like how rtx/realistic shaders brings a bunch of little but new possibilities and gameplay features to minecraft, or how the physics in teardown MAKE teardown, but for Dirt Rally/Driving in GTA - a police chase in Beam or rally course is unreal-ly, terrifyingly awesome! The devs pump out massive updates and improvements every five seconds too!) My catch up/revisits have been Black Mesa (an awesome remake while still having it's own unique style/feel), Mario 64 and Sunshine (a lot jankier than I remembered) and GTA Online again since it snowed (still a complete mess but a guilty pleasure). My "new" titles despite playing it before has been Insurgency Sandstorm (instant soiled pants, it's great), as well as Mario Odyssey (pretty much 3D Mario perfected.) On my shopping list is indeed HL Alyx and Boneworks, the remake of The World Ends With You, Subnautica, Hades, etc. There's a whole lot more, I don't really play new games, I'm too busy playing these! Happy new year!
I don't have a VR set up and likely won't any time soon, but enjoyed watching your videos on HL Alyx. Here's hoping for updates and more missions for the game in the near future 😊
DOOM Eternal is my GOTY. My first playthrough on a lower difficulty, I enjoyed it and was able to do just good enough to beat it. Now a couple of hundred hours later, I feel like a god completely wrecking the hell monsters that invaded Earth. The better you get at DOOM, the more fun you have. The replayability of the game is fantastic and the modding community on Discord is the best.
Thanks to your recommendation on Kingdom Come Deliverance, I've now been streaming the game on Twitch. I started a channel at the same time too, and boy its a great game to stream. If it wasn't for a few dedicated fans of the game who have helped me in chat, I'd be so lost in the complexities of this game. It's truly a game with great detail. And as I practice Longsword fencing, it's nice to see the combat is pretty realistic too!
Hey Philip, happy new year! you asked the people who enjoyed Cyberpunk 207 why they enjoy it. I'll try to describe my feelings in this comment. Sorry for my English, not a native speaker. I also prefer to lurk, I rarely comment in threads, but incase you were asking (warning, some spoilers in this comment for anyone who hasn't played Mankind Divided or Cyberpunk) I've spent at least 70 hours in the game. Many of those hours have been spent doing Gigs and side missions. In fact, I'm actually very far from beating the game. I think I'm still 20% story mission completion. I like the game because it's the next Deus Ex for me, in terms of gameplay. Mankind left a sore issue for me with it's story. When the game ended, I felt "wait, what? that's it?" .. it made me feel like the game actually was just starting. We caught the bad guys but not the "bigger" guys, which made it feel anti-climatic as the news rolled on in the ending scene. In addition, Mankind divided, while having an amazing hub, has a very disappointing story for me. The content in mankind isn't much compared to the 1st Deus ex I played -- there's no problem in that, less can be better. However, in this case, the story ended on such a bad note for me that I felt bad replaying it. But I did. After the 1st, 2nd playthrough, the only things there is to do is really just explore other augmentations, considering I got all side quests in the 1st playthrough. But even exploring the other augmentations ran dry at some point as there isn't really many interesting things in the game. I liked the remote hacking mini game, though. Still, despite this, I played mankind over and over again. And I say this as someone who enjoyed the 1st deus ex for 172 hours (on Steam. more on non-steam) So what makes me enjoy Cyberpunk despite not spending that much time in its story yet? Well, lets get the obvious out of the way first. I really like the setting. The music is whatever, but the setting is really good. Rarely I actually feel like looking at stuff on a desktop game and taking my time with its world. I like hearing the dialog. I like the massive amount of gigs and side quests. Many of them are actually very interesting to hear through. And I love the gameplay. There are a lot of ways you can tackle on enemies. There's a lot of hacking stuff you can do on them. Ultimately, I played the entire gameplay part like I would a Deus Ex - I snuck around, non lethally striking enemies. For combat, I baton'd everyone - just like I how would do it in the original. Ranged, I chose a silenced pistol fitted with non-lethal mods. It always did so much damage. On other playthroughs, I might explore some of the other weapon types, like shotguns, SMGs, etc. As far as I know, as long as you upgrade your weapons and keep getting higher damages, and mix other weapons, you can defeat most enemies just fine. I played the game on very hard, so if it's doable for me, it's probably doable for everyone else. I do agree that the game doesn't really feel RPG- wise though. But I just played it like how I would play a Deus Ex - that's why it never bothered me. However, I can't really comment on the story yet -- but what I've seen is really good. I was sad when that character died. I do have many complaints about the game. The obvious? Many bugs, many many many. There are some gameplay flaws, and odd design choices. The crafting UI is just a mess. Inventory is just a mess. Map screen is map, and mini map isn't large enough. The first tier of vehicles is really bad and it's a slog to drive through them -- later vehicles are better. Still, despite that I think it's a good game. It's far from the BEST game, but I think it's almost there. Sure, a lot of changes need to be done to it and I agree that the game would need a massive overhaul to be better to be the 'best' game. But what's there, imo, is a good game. But I dunno, I just played it as if it's the Deus ex but in another timeline, and that was plenty good for me. I can't really revisit the Deus Ex games anymore -- I already played them all to death, so this was really a heaven for me. I do recgonize the game isn't really that good though and that there were many 'dev' lies or hyped expectations.
Thanks for the great video and for putting my thoughts on Cyberpunk into such beautiful words. I’m glad you spent a bit of extra time explaining your position in context of the weird hype. Looking forward to your next corona video on 1kliks!
Great video, really liked to hear your thoughts on the games you've played. I would just like to add that you should give *CARRION* a try. It's a horror game where you are the monster. Blood, ragdolls, destruction, and a lot of screams.
Love your categories , really nice personal explanations ... Haven't played a lot of new games in 2020 myself .. but in VR i Half Life Alyx was really an such accomplishment... I hate Boneworks with my guts for its buginess, Alyx felt so polish and i love how you described it as visiting places ... Man the immersion was immense , what you say about more "crazy" setpieces for Valve's next try just keep me dreaming now ... Also in VR i tried the GTA 5 mod , just ran about and stoled some planes , but the immersion felt very nice and i had some nice moments walking on a beach with the sunset in the background .... I wish more 3rd person games would have a built-in VR option , i think it truely makes the work of world-building by the developpers shine
Revolvers are completely overpowered. I have zero points in revolver and pretty much just use a suppressed 6-shooter and one-tap everything in the head. Pistols on the other hand are absolute garbage. Maybe they'd be OK with the epic mod that eliminates vertical recoil, but you'd be better off just putting that on an AR or SMG.
@@digitalrandomart3049Yeah, the RPG element in this game is complete dog shit. I find a new and better gun on a ground after like, every 30 minutes. Does it want to be a looter shooter? I still can't figure out what cyberpunk 2077 was going for after 30 hours. I really wish they ditched the whole open world shenanigan and went with something more linear.
@@mrflyingturtle9447 i actually want them to be open world. We never have one set in futuristic city before. It's actually refreshing. More and more games are interested more in cliche fantasy setting. Or generic modern setting. Ever ask yourself why we keep talking about deus ex when it comes to scifi cyberpunk titles? What it need is a better sense of interactivity and redesign gameplay loop. Really focused on what it want to be. It seems like the publisher and developer have a serious disconnecting activity between the two. The management want GTA. But the dev want to make a story driven RPG. Which is how it ends up being both. Without true strenght to make the game truly shine. Watch the multiplayer be like GTA online and you'll see.
@@mrflyingturtle9447 exactly, i just want to pick one pistol keep it for the whole game and through perks and upgrades make it better, not drop that pistol every 5 minutes for one that does 1 extra damage
Over 50 hours into Cyberpunk and haven’t done more of the story than necessary to unlock the whole map. I love running around slicing people up with my mantis blades to complete police and side gig jobs. I like completing all of the map like I did with AC Odyssey and Mad Max. I don’t think it is as good as Witcher 3 but I like it more than RDR2.
i played cyberpunk for 50 and i liked it. i think if ur not trying to find bugs u will find less. in my run i had just a couple of bugs but just 2 of them were so big that one of them killed me and the other made me reload and play the last 3 mins. for me the experience with cyberpunk was not fustrating, but maybe i just had the right playstyle so i didnt saw many of the bugs. thanks for the video, i will try xcom 2 this year ;)
i have sunk exactly 100 hours into cyberpunk. the feeling i've felt consistently throughout that time was that of wanting more even while playing it or after closing it or right before booting up. there is a lot of cut feature that community is aware of and a dire situation inside the company on top of that, i'd wager this is where rabid defensiveness comes from. however i cannot say that i fully agree with what has been stated in this video, yes the dialogues lack w3 cleverness, but there simply no other game in this setting that gives the player this much creative ideas to play with in your head. i remember those two separated siamese twins who though of themselves as a one singular being with two bodies. or a teeny tiny little sidequest about a monk and his brother who were both kidnapped to be stuffed with implants and many other little things like that which made the world feel, although at times empty, unique nonetheless and after all that after 100 hours all i can really say that i am disappointed. and i cannot wait for dlcs to fill the void
I can't explain it but I spent 130hrs playing cyberpunk over like 3 weeks and enjoyed basically every moment of my playthrough. I haven't gone back to it since because I ran out of content. I understand why people don't like it, but it had me absolutely hooked.
I’m not gonna lie me and you have had really different experiences with the cyberpunk community. I completely understand where your coming from but I found the reddit full of people complaining about random dumb stuff that isn’t an issue and is only given the time of day because of the hate it’s getting.
Based on your taste in games, I can highly recommend Enderal. In short, it's a total conversion for Skyrim made by a small mod team in Germany-- but don't let that description deter you. They've created a completely new universe with its own lore, history and characters. Although only made by a small dedicated group, it has easily the best writing in any game I've ever played and has a far more powerful and compelling story than I've ever seen produced by even a large professional studio. I can easily sink 80 hours into a single playthrough. It's a solidly crafted game thanks to the steam release and frequent updates, and if the opinions you share through RUclips are any indicator, you'll love it as much as I do. P.S. You are a fantastic content creator. Thank you for all the work you do, your passion shows in everything you produce :)
Yeah i really don't know where the hell did he go to get the impression that people are being apologist for cyberpunk. All i saw is just hate and meme.
I have to agree with your assessment of Control. It’s aesthetic and atmosphere is fantastically sinister and quietly haunting yet familiar. However I just can’t bring myself to keep going through it, it’s kind of repetitive and confusing for me to find locations, I have no problems with puzzles.
feel like the thing with cyberpunk currently is where on the internet you discuss the game. Certain places on the internet are full of people praising the game and defending it but other places are full of people trashing it and saying it’s the worst thing ever. Majority of the places on the internet seem to disagree with people that are on both sides.
I don't know man, I don't think Cyberpunk is the best game ever done, but I was playing the outer worlds before Cyberpunk and to me it feels just like a superior game in all regards, I remember when fallout 3, NV or 4 released they were also filled with bugs and even to this very day you need to mod the shit out of them to fix most of the shit that's broken, didn't see so much hate towards those games in that regard. like you point out, i think it's a step up in the FPS rpg games in regards to setting and enviroments, the shooting mechanics also don't feel as clunky as say the fallout series. Don't know, m8, i think it doesn't deserve neither the godlike praise or the massive hate its recieving but thats just my 2cents

I kinda wish I had that same feeling.
Maybe it was the fact that when I was younger I watched all of JSE's playthroughs as well as Markipliers.
Anyways, when playing yes the monsters could be seen as scary and threatening, but really, you're perfectly safe. In my playthrough: (spoilers)
-The reaper leviathan never attacked me when I was early game
-The smaller hostile mobs (crabs, electro jellyfish, those coral scrap snake things) never seemed threatening
-Great mobs (sea treaders, the large end game leviathans) were never menacing nor all too impressive
-The deep sea wasn't scary.
@@MrSlaughterrific oof, that must be terrifying, forced into the murky, infinitely deep waters at early game
about weapons/defense, the seamoth even has great defense; it can tank I think 2 hits, and can safely outrun the creature. The standing robot thing is basically invincible with grappling and enhanced boosters, and the submarine is honestly useless.
Though yeah nah it's perfectly fair to reckon you're at a life/death moment there! Must be terrifying!

something that really crushed me earlier this year was losing my save progress on red dead 2.
Same shit happened to me it didnt delete all my progress just a couple of missions but it was enough for me go crazy and play other games for 5 month

It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I can't help but agree. After beating the game and replaying about a quarter, I really can't sink my teeth into it like the first time, and I'm sure it's spoiled for you if that happened. But just get a save game like the other guy said if possible

It's bias. "infinite chances to prove itself" -> it just came out...and unlike Death Stranding or Rage 2, it has more room for gameplay expansion.

The Assassin's Creed Origins music in Odyssey's place really hit me.

I just finished Cyberpunk 2077 and I absolutely loved it, for its story, world building and environments. I thought combat and stealth was fun enough, and I really liked the variation of the missions. It really felt like I lived in that world, and I loved that.
(I liked the game, I'm not a hater)
While the story, the world and the characters are really good.
You hit the nail on the head with your describtion of Cyberpunk 2077.
That's not to mention that there is absolutely a branching story (at least, I've seen significant differences between my first playthrough and my second based off of the choices I've made)
I know it isn't a complete "blank slate character" game, but I still consider it to be an (action) RPG.

The “princess beach” pun
Shhhhh

2077 is just bleh to me and didn't give me what I wanted out of it, but at least I got a relatively ok 70 hours of gameplay out of it
3rd playthrough in CP77, 100+ hours in and I still love the feeling of this game. I can understand why others dislike it, though.
1) People who haven't played the game and just going with the hate train;
2) PS4 and Xone players; (Seriously, it is unplayable on ond gen)
3) People who skip dialogue and cutscenes;
4) Morons.

(bug fixes too ofc)
Can't wait to pick it up after I get a 3080.

Thanks for advising to play XCOM 2 in "easy difficulty, iron mod". I love it!
The iron mod creates a constant tension, while the "easy" difficulty setting makes the game a bit more manageable.
I would highly recommend it to people like me who finished the first XCOM in normal mod/difficulty (while abusing the quick save/load options :) )
The iron mod completely changes the experience in a way that fits the theme perfectly:
You are facing an unknown enemy.
IMO crafting gets worth it around higher levels and later in the game with legendaries :) you can re-craft iconic weapons. These are game-changers
OMG you opened with my favorite song from the Boneworks soundtrack (Analog Sunrise), I love you

Your love of XCOM2 sounds like the reason I play Rimworld. Growing attached to characters, seeing them gain permanent injuries or even die, yet the colony still goes on.
Still haven't finished RDR2. The slow pacing just burns me out.
I loved the world, gameplay(when in free roam), and characters. But the jarring jump from free roam to the linear and slow paced story missions is the reason I haven't played it after completing it

Slow paced? I bet you both are too young. Give it another try when you are more than 25. You will appreciate the storytelling of RDR 2. Its brutal amazing.
I had the same feeling about GTA 4 when I played it for first time when I was 16. But I give it another try when I was 22 and I find GTA 4 story was best in the Franchise.
The Operation Flashpoint music that lasted like 10 seconds really made me nostalgic
you definetly played a different cyberpunk than i did, i started off all into blades and things but they were so weak that i switched to pistols and felt they were overpowered, and the stealthing felt extremely easy
kinda odd?
agree with all the other issues, just did think that the first things you said were very very different from my experience
Yeah, my pistol stealthy build felt super OP
I know it's just Philip's opinion as far as what he thinks of the game loop and what not. Some people won't like that and that's fine.
Choices never matter (and that's what ubisoft focus on marketing)
And all around is just bunch of many games cram into one. Wow, isn't that cyberpunk?
I think he need to put the game down for sometimes. Seeing how many long games he played this year. He really need to find something else to play. Or maybe start playing xcom chimera squad. Since he love xcom 2 i'd like to see his take on it.
Commenting for the algorithm. This video deserves many more views!
The devs pump out massive updates and improvements every five seconds too!)
My catch up/revisits have been Black Mesa (an awesome remake while still having it's own unique style/feel), Mario 64 and Sunshine (a lot jankier than I remembered) and GTA Online again since it snowed (still a complete mess but a guilty pleasure). My "new" titles despite playing it before has been Insurgency Sandstorm (instant soiled pants, it's great), as well as Mario Odyssey (pretty much 3D Mario perfected.)
On my shopping list is indeed HL Alyx and Boneworks, the remake of The World Ends With You, Subnautica, Hades, etc. There's a whole lot more, I don't really play new games, I'm too busy playing these!
Happy new year!
man, tf2 is just awesome. i think its the best multiplayer game ever made, and if not, its definitely the best fps multiplayer game ever made
I don't have a VR set up and likely won't any time soon, but enjoyed watching your videos on HL Alyx. Here's hoping for updates and more missions for the game in the near future 😊
I think I got more enjoyment from Teardown than I ever would get out of Cyberpunk.

I also prefer to lurk, I rarely comment in threads, but incase you were asking (warning, some spoilers in this comment for anyone who hasn't played Mankind Divided or Cyberpunk)
I've spent at least 70 hours in the game. And I say this as someone who enjoyed the 1st deus ex for 172 hours (on Steam. more on non-steam)
So what makes me enjoy Cyberpunk despite not spending that much time in its story yet?

I feel your entire rant on Cyberpunk perfectly fits for Death Stranding...

pistols in cyberpunk underpowevered ? srsly ? : D
Revolvers are completely overpowered. I have zero points in revolver and pretty much just use a suppressed 6-shooter and one-tap everything in the head.
Pistols on the other hand are absolute garbage. Maybe they'd be OK with the epic mod that eliminates vertical recoil, but you'd be better off just putting that on an AR or SMG.
he probably dint pick new pistols off the ground
@@digitalrandomart3049Yeah, the RPG element in this game is complete dog shit. I find a new and better gun on a ground after like, every 30 minutes. Does it want to be a looter shooter? @@mrflyingturtle9447 i actually want them to be open world. We never have one set in futuristic city before. It's actually refreshing. What it need is a better sense of interactivity and redesign gameplay loop. Really focused on what it want to be. It seems like the publisher and developer have a serious disconnecting activity between the two. The management want GTA. But the dev want to make a story driven RPG. B-b-b-but Death Stranding! Rage _Twowo!!_
i played cyberpunk for 50 and i liked it.
i think if ur not trying to find bugs u will find less. in my run i had just a couple of bugs but just 2 of them were so big that one of them killed me and the other made me reload and play the last 3 mins.
for me the experience with cyberpunk was not fustrating, but maybe i just had the right playstyle so i didnt saw many of the bugs.
thanks for the video, i will try xcom 2 this year ;)
Same for me.
i have sunk exactly 100 hours into cyberpunk. the feeling i've felt consistently throughout that time was that of wanting more even while playing it or after closing it or right before booting up.
there is a lot of cut feature that community is aware of and a dire situation inside the company on top of that, i'd wager this is where rabid defensiveness comes from.
however i cannot say that i fully agree with what has been stated in this video, yes the dialogues lack w3 cleverness, but there simply no other game in this setting that gives the player this much creative ideas to play with in your head.
i remember those two separated siamese twins who though of themselves as a one singular being with two bodies.
or a teeny tiny little sidequest about a monk and his brother who were both kidnapped to be stuffed with implants
and many other little things like that which made the world feel, although at times empty, unique nonetheless
and after all that after 100 hours all i can really say that i am disappointed. and i cannot wait for dlcs to fill the void
Same feeling dad 🥺👉👈

This place is full of people trashing. King Phillip has deemed it so.
Really looking forward to seeing Destruction Darius 3 in 2021!
One of my most anticipated games of all time
