    • @IndependentObserver
      @IndependentObserver 9 месяцев назад +6

      Ok, but witch bolt is an amazing 6th lvl spell? Like, 6-72 damage, consistently, every turn, for 10 turns, with just a single spell slot, on enemies that have vulnerability to lightning at which point it become 12-144 damage? (Steel Watchers for example have it by default, and you fight a lot of them in act 3, or just anyone that had a bo'oh'o'wa'er thrown at them) That's some premium shit my guy. And it can be improved- 'pulse' on witch lightning is considered a cantrip by the game (just like the call lightning thingy) so you can get another +15 damage (@20 int/charisma) per tick with Potent Robe, Necklace of Elemental Augmentation and 6lvl Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer/10lvl Evocation wizard thingy and +1d8 from Spellmight gloves because it's an attack roll spell. That's 22-95 damage, per action- and yes, if you're hasted you can activate it twice in a turn, and if you're a sorcerer you can twin it because it's a single target spell, so you get that 58.5/117 (with vulnerability) average damage tick on 2 enemies at once- that's up to 234 *average* damage, per action, and you only have to roll the attack the first time. Also quickened spell, so you can activate it 3rd time, I mean sure twinning 6th lvl spell costs 6 points and quicken costs 3 per spell so you can only do that twice but I doubt anybody can survive 6 ticks of that witch bolt, when vulnerable, which again, is as easy as throwing a bottle of water at them, and even targets that have resistance to lightning will become vulnerable. Also because it's not actually a 6th lvl spell you can dip 2 lvls into the tempest cleric so that you can empower one of those ticks to deal guaranteed max damage of 190.

      But of course storm sorcerer is the huge damage dealer since they have all the spells they need to deal huge electricity damage.
      Sorcerer is good, but not beginner friendly, and there are not much build around it, either you go for CC spells, or electricity, this youtuber is right though, they just have too little spells to have diffrent build overall.

    In my playthrough as an open hand Monk, I didn’t put him in armor, but I fed him Elixirs of Cloud Giant Strength. Tavern Brawler is good on that simply because it basically guarantees that I’m going to eliminate two enemies, cripple the BBEG in two hits, knocking him Prone for Lae’Zel to finish off, and still be in position to obliterate some other poor bastard when they make the mistake of existing and trying to move away from me.

      Played through on Tactician, and used Lae’Zel as a Battlemaster Fighter/Thief Rogue, Shadowheart as a Life Cleric, and Astarion as an Asassin Rogue/Gloomstalker Ranger. Act 1 was a little touch and go at times, but after that I felt like the freaking Juggernaut.

    • @NightWing1800
      @NightWing1800 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Cyotis I'm doing Monk with a thief dip for more flurries per turn and you can hit 19 AC in act 1. You just go Dex and Wisdom and then you can get 18/18 with the hag stat point. Then get clothes that give +2 Dex. I think at some point my monk had like 22 AC because there's cloaks and boots and rings that give + to AC too. There are also bracers of defense in act 1, but you can get a d4 of fire damage from the mountains or get lighting charge gloves, which I valued the damage more than the AC at that point.
      Realistically you don't need to minmax your survivability because you won't be getting hit often if you're positioning well. Monk also has the movement speed and the damage to kill a lot of enemies before they can act. BG3 uses a d4 instead of a d20 for initiative, so dex characters are consistently moving early in turn order. Your survivability is just taking enemies off the turn order before they have the chance to threaten you. In the earlier levels before your damage really gets crazy, you do also have missile catching. You can buy the ability as gloves too from the Druid's Grove for other classes, and it honestly helps your survivability a lot. Positioning in this game goes really far and so you can put yourself in a position where melee units have to waste turns dashing while ranged units you can get cover from have their damage ignored or greatly reduced by the gloves. I'm a fair bit into act 3 now with my monk and the only major threat I've had to my monk was by my own stupidity and bad luck by bunch of paladins have a change to crit divine smite me or by traps I was being careless around.

      Imo, most of the Bard's key features really don't matter as much in BG3, and they also have arguably the worst full caster spell list. Swords Bard is a fun time though, and no class in this game is bad, but I've personally found Bard to be weakest caster overall.

      Yeah overall the bard is pretty solid it’s not necessarily going to be good at one particular thing which is kinda the whole point of the bard class in concept, but it can provide a lot of utility to a party. I will say tho not being a prepared caster sucks but you can just respec each day depending on what you want anyway so it really doesn’t matter. The best spellcaster is definitely wizard tho since it can learn every spell in the game which is insanely op.

    I think you are crazy when it comes to sorcerer. Dual wield staves, with quickened spell giving an extra spell cast with bonus action, bloodlust elixir to give an extra action on kill and casting haste on yourself, the sorcerer can end entire fights, take elemental adapt fire to remove resistance and immunity on your sorc for scorching ray upcasts to nuke HP, as well as twinned spell for things like chain lightning, which RAW works since the initial cast of chain lightning targets a single character and then spreads so 2 chain lightnings in a single action/spell slot use or arcane battery use, and you just clear entire swathes of enemies and absolutely cripple bosses.

    • @NightWing1800
      @NightWing1800 9 месяцев назад

      Okay, but I can also just go Evocation Wizard and spam magic missile that does 1d4 + 1d8 + 1d6 + 8 + one lightning charge per missile. I think hitting the damage threshold to kill everything is something most classes do effortlessly. You don't need the bloodlust or twinspell to hit those crazy high damage numbers. But the problem with sorcerer is it isn't as flexible as most other casters in the game because it learns spells rather than preparing them. Gale has been really helpful because I can just pull up long strider or featherfall or invisibility. Sorcerer does get these powerful utility spells, but it's starved for options. Meanwhile Gale just has every option always. Sorcerers are also more prone to go through resources than Wizard, but honestly I haven't even had to use Arcane Recovery. I imagine I wouldn't have an issue with Sorc's resource management either.
      And the wizard comparison is apt because their spell lists overlap and similar roles. It's not like Bard to Sorcerer where they just have different spell lists and also bard has inspiration and expertise. Or like Sorcerer to Druid or cleric which is again different spell lists. Sorc and Wizard are similar enough to highlight Sorc's shortcomings. What Sorc does have going for it I think though is being a Charisma Caster. You can just talk your way through a lot of fights in this game, I've noticed, and Charisma does help you do that. Though they did add a lot of Wisdom and Int options for talking your way through things that I appreciate. Charisma is still the primary social stat but it's not the ONLY social stat anymore.

  • @fgcggggc2870
    @fgcggggc2870 9 месяцев назад

    I would agree on sorcerer place if not for the fact that in bg3 you can cast two leveled spells as an action and bonus action while having long rests is not punished in any way. So you can cast say two fireballs or Hypnotic Pattern and fireball or whatever mad combination of spells with quickened spell metamagic, basically going nova in every battle and then take a long rest. Plus the sheer amount of spell scrolls that are easily available practically nullify the disadvantage of worse spell list. Wizards, on the other hand, got hugely nerfed because many powerful spells are not present in the game, and also if you want to cast a ritual spell you need to prepare it.
    Idk, many people I speak with about bg3 say that there's no reason to play as a wizard when sorcerers exist x) especially when charisma is very important for your protag to be able to successfully persuade/lie/whatever.

Being a charisma based class like warlock, paladin, Bard and sorcerer gives you a massive advantage when it comes to interacting in social settings, which is half the game. How many intimidation/persuasion/deception rolls have you had to make? I think I made my point. Paladin is literally the best.

    STR Monk is absolutely the way to go.
    Because there are so many magic items in act 1 that can boost your DEX, you don't need to invest any point buy or ASI's to have good AC, even without armor.
    Open Hand X, Thief 3 with Tavern Brawler and 20 STR and 16 WIS does just an absurd amount of damage.
    Each hit deals 1d8+1d6+18, and you can attack 8 times per turn with Wholeness of Body active (10 with haste).
    DEX Monk damage is fine, but what you lose for going STR monk (a glove slot) pales in comparison to +8 damage per hit in act 2 and +10 per hit in act 3.

Unless scrolls don't count (and they are everywhere), I don't think utility is too much of a problem to begin with.

    All of the negative points raised about bards seem easily disprovable, or avoidable.
    "Limiting spell list" - They have more than enough support/utility spells one could need, and Lore enables adding top-end options to whatever role you are lacking in your comp.
    Earliest action economy spike in the game, via Swords, which persists to endgame to still be equal to the top max hitters. Prepared casters are superior, for sure - But why care, when the bard has access to every great ritual cantrip for party-buffing, and st CC, almost immediately, and they never need to cast dmg spells when they can pop off multiple martial hits per action? I cant find validity in penalizing a "limited spell selection", when they don't actually want what is missing anyway (This also applies to Sorc, I feel).
    Utility and dialogue seems to be completely ignored in this video, to such an extent I wonder if we are playing the same game. He repeatedly mentioned not needing to do more than is needed to accomplish the same result. Well, that seems like Bard, to a T. There are a few builds that can get a bit better DPS, or be better CC, or spread more effects, or support, but none I have found can do all of those things "as well as needed". All this, while dominating dialogue far better than anything else, while simultaneously being completely capable of being your party stealth and slight of hand.
    "Action economy" doesnt just apply to the number of actions/hits, per round. It also applies to how much use one can get out of 1/4 of their party. If there is a class that can contribute more to a party comp, per five minutes of play - in combat, and out - I don't see it. In fact, I can't see anything close. If I had to pick one class, to have in every team comp, I currently feel that class would be Bard. What metric would matter more than that, for a "class tier-list", as it actually applies to playing the game?

People usually picture two different fantasies when they think of Rangers: masters of archery and/or armies of animal companions. And from everything I’ve heard from disgruntled players is correct, those two aspects of Ranger are their weakest aspects. And when the whole entire point of why people wanna play Rangers is weak (especially the animal part), why bother playing it when you can do the same thing with Fighter or Druid?
    Heck the animal companion thing is so tied to the Ranger’s identity in the public eye, I never knew it was an optional feature until I played BG3.

    I dont know, I personally see Druid in S Tier as well!
    2 Reasons you didnt mention in your rating:
    1) Armor + Shield Profiency:
    Not really important in DnD but in BG3 Armor gives you access to spells, and other stuff, and its not just AC. The Druid having access to Light and Medium Armor has a lot more Build Options than other casters. (He even can get heavy, if you can free up a single feat.) And the game also drops a lot of very specific Druid Items.
    2) Wildshape Utility:
    You can scare shop keepers etc. away and then just loot their Shop with Wildshape. Or you can turn tiny, and then use additional Paths and openings that are only available to tiny creatures!
    Or just the fact that you can literally go anywhere as a cat and not be attacked.
    3) Circle of the Land:
    I personally feel like the amount of free prepared spells (10 free spells) is just ridicolus as a Land Druid, and it allows him to compete with the Wizard and the Cleric Simultaniously for the "Utility" slot. (Less Damage than a Wizard, but more healing, less healing than the cleric, but more Utility)
    Edit Wizard:
    I would say Divination Wizard is even better than Evocation. You get extra Portent Dice. A lot of them. Per Shortrest. Its stupid.

      I honestly don't think Fighters all that good for the most part, and originally, I had it way down at C tier. I think the weapon system heavily benefits the other martials, and most of the casters still feel like they can contribute better. A lot of it was also just because, imo, Lae'zel is going to be better than any fighter you make that isn't a Gith, since the Gith weapons are really good & easy to get.

    The argument against the sorcerer makes no sense.
    The sorcerer isn't trying to be a utility caster, it's a damage dealer. It has a different role in the party.
    Maybe you think that utility is more important than damage, but even then how come the barbarian is ranked above it, which only has (comperetively mediocre) damage?
    My favorite build so far is a Tempest Cleric 6 / Sorcerer 6. Yes it loses out on the utility of high level spells, but maximizing two lightning bolts that deal double damage in one round (assuming someone else uses create water) more than makes up for it.

    • @OffbeatOutlaw
      @OffbeatOutlaw  9 месяцев назад

      The spells argument for sorcerer isn’t that it doesn’t have utility, it’s that the sorcerer doesn’t have as many options even for damage. If you go up against a target that resists a damage type you are going to lack options. You’ll have to resort to just using chromatic orb. The sorcerer lacks spells even in the damage department which means it’s going to have to make unoptimal damage choices. The wizard doesn’t have to do this because it can just know all the spells.
