    Our review of the RTX 2080 vs. GTX 1080 Ti & GTX 1080 considers all scenarios. The RTX 2080 FE goes through gaming benchmarks (e.g. Far Cry 5, F1 2018, Shadow of the Tomb Raider), thermal benchmarks, noise/acoustic benchmarks, noise-normalized tests, power tests, RTX 2080 overclocking tests, and more. Our RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition review will go up today as well, within a few hours of publication of this main content piece.
    Part of the piece is spent discussing the marketing surrounding the "RTX" branding, along with the lack of RTX support in games right now.
    This testing also goes into overclocking on the new RTX 2080 Turing cards.

Their marketing people are easily awful enough to just put up some 10 cards for pre-order that are immediately out of stock due to all the reviewers needing them, which is meant to work as an advertisement. If stupid people believe that everyone is getting this and it's the new cool thing then they're more likely to want the product too.

      The hardware world is a finicky market - one moment you are undisputed champion the other you are frantically searching for a way to save your business :)

    • @differentlyabledmuslimjewi4475
      @differentlyabledmuslimjewi4475 6 лет назад

      Indeed. For me it is about price/performance. This is why in theory the RX480 was such a good card(but the reality of the market drove prices up like crazy). It was an entry level GPU sure, but it was amazing, and did everything you could want for 1080p60fps gaming which %90 of people still play at anyhow.
      I don't expect them to compete with high end Nvidia this time, not yet. Maybe next time. But I do expect at the very least a repeat of the RX 400 series, a card that does everything you could ask for at the right price with good board partner support.
      I think we may see more people buy AMD this time around because most people aren't buying high end cards, they are the type who want to buy a gtx1060 in the past, and this is the price point where AMD can do well. Since the 20 series is looking like a total flop, the average gamer may indeed be getting on board and familiar with AMD graphics again for the first time since probably the ATI days. If enough normal consumers realize that Nvidia isn't the only GPU company and then they trade blow for blow at the top end when they are ready to really kick butt, we will see a market reversal like what happened with Intel on the CPU front. I do see the gaming market as more casual and tech illiterate, so even still it could be hard to overcome the marketing and mind-share of Nvidia, but I still think it can be done. Not today, but eventually so long as AMD keep pace at the entry level, and research hard to make a killer top tier card some day.

      I'm more concerned with how developers use it tbh. I think that because its a hybrid approach the industry won't adopt true Raytracing and will as usual be stubborn bastards. Remember that this isn't "true" raytracing, its still using the cheat methods we currently use today. The holygrail is pure true Raytracing in realtime. This is where I think RTX is vastly misleading people. But this comes down to the developers, the cards can do true Raytracing, its up to the developers to support it. My bet is that they won't.

      The 2080 FE cost more. The base/partner 2080's will launch at the same MSRP as the 1080ti did. On top of that, the 2080 is pretty much on par with 1080ti in almost every benchmark. Which is a good thing since the 1080ti is sitting on two plus years of driver optimizations while the 2080 is on early drivers as of this test. If they were to compare the 1080ti when it was on its early drivers, the benchmarks would paint a much different picture. Future drivers should see a nice bump in performance which is pretty much always the case for any new generation GPU.

      Nvidia probably will counter AMD again when Navi launches. Just like they did with Vega. They released the 2080Ti this time around as well because either:
      a) They knew the 2080 wasn't fast enough for enthusiasts to consider upgrading
      or
      b) They already have a secret weapon in their locker, waiting for Navi to land, then again crush the competition
      Either way they are still miles ahead and stand to gain since AMD best offer (Vega 64) is nowhere close to their top 3 cards (not a good picture), and Intel is the new kid in the block, not a threat atm. The one holding the crown and has the mindshare commands the market. Unless FreeSync 2 (on TVs as well) and Navi hit it out of the park, we won't see a big shift in the GPU market.

    2080 should have been the 2070, as it barely meets/beats a 1080ti and is the TU104 die. and given the 30mo since Pascal launch, we should almost be looking at 3000 series benches. combine those two with the insane pricing, and Turing/RTX is a huge disappointment. DLSS could be nice and i'm glad Nvidia is pushing for RT development, but there's not enough positives here to justify the costs. $380 2080 / $500 2080ti (and relabel them to match their die codes, like Keplar-Pascal)... otherwise, no thx.

    • @YayDanMan
      @YayDanMan 6 лет назад +1

      I love your optimism but please $500 for a 2080 would have been amazing - $380 is a nutty pipe dream. Also as per the last reply, complete TU104 core in 2080 is in line with complete GP104 core in 1080’s, and so on and so forth as you go back. Finally again, performance jump seems to be in line with past increases at 1440p and above but price increase does not match indeed - such is the liberty they have by claiming new technologies and possessing such market share

    • @Krazie-Ivan
      @Krazie-Ivan 6 лет назад +3

      gtx1080 was GP104, as noted by you guys, but my point was that the $380 msrp 1070 was *also a 104 die* (just cut down a bit from 1080) while still out-performing the previous gen 980ti. The $350 970 beat the 780ti. So the $800 2080 is a smaller performance gain, for more than double the price, while being an entire product tier higher.

    • @Krazie-Ivan
      @Krazie-Ivan 6 лет назад

      Nocturnal101 Ravenous ...the 2080ti is only a TU102 die, not the full uncut Turing - so there will be a Titan (or whatever they name an uncut full Turing GPU) at some point.
      fun fact: prior to Keplar, the flagship launch GPU of each new series was always the uncut die, & cost between $450-700 (after inflation adjustment). still think the cut-down $1200 2080ti is a good deal?

    @GamerNexus, amazing video, BUT one correction, keep in mind RTX is an nvidia thing, but is nothing more than the driver side of raytracing. Raytracing is part of DirectX api, is called DXR, so is different of physx or any nvidia library where you can either use it or not. It is a directX feature, if AMD and INTEL want to be DirectX compatible they will need to implement it in the driver, whether will be hardware accelerated or not is a whole different thing, but ALL vendor will need to support it if they want to be up to date with latest DirectX specification (and they MUST). This is also a massive guarantee for developers to adopt it, that it will run on any hardware not only nvidia ones.

    I ended up purchasing a RTX 2080 recently for two reasons, I don't update my card very much...and by the time I went about building a new computer 1080 Ti prices had skyrocketed to over 1000 dollars(1200-1300 seemed to be average from what I looked at). So the 2080 seemed to be the better route to go. Though I went with an MSI one rather than a FE.

      They lose money even if their csrds are cheaper and faster... Not a good business strategy.

    Perhaps Nvidia should consult with Gamers Nexus, LTT, Jayz Two Cents and other reviewers for their next launch. Y'all can tell them what to release, what specs it needs, what software it needs to have supporting it, what the price should be and what embargos(if any) should be present. I'm only half kidding. But seriously, with the growing popularity of online reviews, why isn't their more coordination on launches? Instead of a release shrouded in secrecy and vague release specs, they could coordinate with reviewers transparently so reviewers wouldn't have to speculate, which would earn the respect of the end buyers. In the end, I think consumers respect honesty in marketing almost as much as performance.

    GTX 1070 is officially a 1080p now. Look at shadow of the tomb raider benchmark. You need a 1070 for 1080p ultra. Future games will be even more demanding. Better get GTX 1080Ti for 1080p and forget about upgrading and enjoy ultra 60-120FPS in all games.

    £500 for my 1080TI new two weeks ago , NVIDEA i hope your holding your head in shame , no benchmarks at launch was a clear indication that this card wouldnt perform any better but with a 60% price increase , .. Stop trying to compete with Apple with your over inflated pricing, Graphics cards are not the latest must have phone and bring back performance for a FAIR RETURN

    I've watched several reviews today, and I'm beginning to see a theme. A theme outside of the actual performance of these cards. It's a certain tone reviewers are applying to Nvidia as a company. It's not derogatory, but it isn't exactly praising either. Sort of the tone a divorced parent would use with their child when asked, "do you still love mommy/daddy?". Nvidia's tomfoolery (see what I did there?) has really started to jade everyone to the point where I think it is going to start hurting them. Nvidia - pray AMD doesn't release a monster and put you in the position Intel is in. The emperor has no clothes.
