If only it was Kobo software on the Kindle hardware. I hate the mess of emailing or side loading documents to a Kindle, only to have them treated as second class citizens due to the ‘bugs’ that prevent covers and/or metadata from loading properly.

3:37 It's not actually the case that the Kobo is more expensive, the Elipsa 2E has 32GB of storage so you need to compare against the 32GB Scribe, not the 16GB base model. So, in the UK, the Scribe is £30 more expensive than the Elipsa.

The abilities of notetaking look really awesome. A dream that comes true.
But: It's not Kobo, who figured this out. It's just the app Nebo, which Kobo implemented. The function are right the same! But that doesn't make it less spectacular. Nebo on a e-ink device. That's really great.

I love Kobo. I always had Kindles, three in total but since I bought the Kobo Libra2 I never looked back. I don’t think I would buy the Elipsa but that’s because I don’t need it, still it does look like a better thought out product when it comes to the software features.

It looks like Kobo is using the MyScript digital ink SDK. If that is true, then the same technology is also used by popular iPad apps (e.g., Notability or Nebo, the latter of which is also developed by MyScript). This might also explain the choice of pen.

Just to add there are quite a few templates built into the Kindle that weren't shown, including multiple lined paper sheets (wide ruled, college ruled, with and without margins), graph paper, lists, calendars/weekly agenda, and a few others. It is basic but I feel it's just enough if you only want to take notes.

Is it not amazing and a bit unfair how much of a difference a brand's ecosystem makes? Amazon has done all the hard work such that even if you don't like the Kindle, you find yourself going, "But it syncs with my library already so why don't I just go with that?"

For notes in books, do they stay with the text as you rotate the screen or change the text size? I remember the original Elipsa at release notes didn’t move with text and could end up in random places if you changed the text size.
