  • Just like not every person is meant to be a fireman or a doctor, not every dog can be a service dog. They must have the right temperament. Medical Mutts does not breed dogs for their service dog program but carefully selects them from rescues and shelters. Learn about their criteria and selection process for these very special service dog candidates.

Thank you for adopting those in shelters. People forget about the shelters, the dogs who may have had a tough life. Some are aggressive, but most of the dogs are nice and duper loving. But those dogs may also have anxiety around things or people. My dogs are rescues. One is a service dog and the other is an ESA for my sister. He’s dog reactive but he’s the sweetest dog other than reactivity. My service dog has slight issues with men. I am working on it. She’s so much better. She has zoned in on my disabilities and has made public outings and loud noises and crowds SO much easier for me. I wouldn’t ask for another dog for another year or two as she’s getting up in age unfortunately. But they came from across the state and had a really bad life until they came to us. They’ve become amazing dogs. They’re super spoiled now.

I am currently fostering 2 prospect diabetic alert puppies for an organization in my country. The one i will be fostering until she is old enough to join what i call big kids classes. The other puppy I'm only fostering until next week then she will go to her own puppy raiser. Both puppies are rescues along with many of the other dogs in the program who also come from different rescues. They also have a few donated purebreds scattered in between the rescues.

My 9 year old daughter just started having seizures at the beginning of May. We adopted a 6 month old Aussie yesterday. Is there any resources you could recommend for us?

I love seeing these dogs being pulled from Indianapolis Animal Care Services - and of course, other shelters.

What if someone already has a a cat but NEEDS a service dog?

I assume either the cat is rehomed or they find a dog that gets along with cats. Some of shelter dogs grew up in homes with them and some naturally do well with them.

As someone with a pet dog 3 cats and other animals as well as my new addition, my service dog Oakley, they all do great together and have no issues.
