    I bought a small mirrorstone panel, about 80cm square, with wifi connection. I found the wifi bit very/very difficult also getting the mounting points in the correct position was tricky. It heats my loft bedroom pretty well. So i am sold on infrared panels but the mirrorstone panel i am using is now reduced to On or Off by switch. I would say they need to get much better software to control these panels.

      Totally agree on the fixing method not being great. Interesting on the WiFi, the model I had was not smart natively so had no experience of that.

    Very interesting Dale. May have considered for my garden room but I already have a wifi enabled panel heater out there which works extremely well.

      Thanks for watching, certainly no point replacing something thats working well. Is it an IR Panel?

    • @nigelledeux6869
      @nigelledeux6869 7 месяцев назад

      @@SpectrumGeeks No, its just a wifi enabled Devola electric glass panel heater with app. 750 ot 1500W. Works extremely well as the room is so well insulated.

    The only issue I’ve found with these panels and a thermostatic on/off switch is that it’s not heating the room. So the plug itself never actually seems to switch itself off.

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  7 месяцев назад

      I can only assume the room volume is larger than the panel can cope with?
      I have this issue in the kitchen as the room is larger than the area opposite the panel I am heating, so just rely on the timer.
      However, in the smaller room when I have used it, the thermostat works as expected.

    any integration for the supplied smart plug/app with Smarthings/Google/Alexa/HomeKit/HomeAssistant ?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  7 месяцев назад +1

      It uses the Smartlife App, which 100% links in with Google and Alexa, I think it also works with homekit and homeassistant, but not natively with Smartthings from what I can tell.

    Ok so infrared travels mostly in straight lines. So is this flat to the wall? Mounting over a mantelpiece you would want to aim it down so it points at the sofa. What about how it is wired in? All very well plugging into the wall, but a 32A ring main could get overloaded with these everywhere. The point about ceiling mount is so the heat is shining down on you...

      Being a desk based worker, I have a small 40-150W panel stuck to the underside of the desk. I control it with a simple dial and so far 150W has always been far more than needed. Rather than heating the entire house when working alone, the panel makes it far more comfortable and consumes far less power than either heating just the office space or the entire house.

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  7 месяцев назад

      Perfect solution in that scenario, and like you say, a great cost saving and warm and cosy.

      IR Panels are mounted flat on the wall or the ceiling. You don't need to angle it, as it will heat the walls in the room and they can radiate the heat.
      You are correct if you are installing these in every room, you would need to consider other appliances on the ring, so if going whole home, would probably want to consider a dedicated circuit.

      You are ok, to put in every room, most rooms will have varied wattage requirements, you can obviously work that out & there is normally a free online calculator, to work this out!
      Just don't put loads on an extention cable, running from one plug!
      Here's what a UK socket will allow=
      Sockets come with limits - in the UK they can take a maximum of 3000 watts or 13 amps (13A). In practise, this means you should plug no more than this into any one socket.
      Any issues, the fuse should blow, but mostly likely, the RCD will trip out first!
      But as you can see, you'd not get these panels running a 3000W of a single plug, or risk 3+ x 1000w heater from a single socket, via an extension lead.
      If in doubt, ask an Electrician like I have...
      All the best & enjoy your IR heaters 👍👍
      I love my £100 WiFi Thermostatic 700w panel, the app & Alexia (also Google) control is brilliant!
      Why pay more, just to get 4 extra years warranty! 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  • @kirkby0076
    @kirkby0076 7 месяцев назад

    For the ceiling mountable panels-
    Don't pay extra for the ceiling kit, you can batten up & mount them.
    You only really need, the suspension wire mounting, to get it lower if you have beyond 3 to 4m high ceilings!
    Also, you can get a decent well made WiFi Thermostatic Panel 700w, for £100..
    I understand now, why other companies sell them at 3 times or more, the price & offer you a 5 year warranty...
    Yeah, you are paying for the warranty, that you probably won't ever need & all others come with a years guarantee anyway as a UK standard!
    Nothing much to break on them hey!
    😂

    That's a radiant panel. There is nothing infrared about it.

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  2 месяца назад

      The term “radiant heater” specifies that the heater is generating heat using radiation while the term “infrared heater” indicates the primary type of radiation being used by the heater to transmit that heat. All IR heaters are radiant heaters, they provide warmth. Radiant heat, heats objects not the air.
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

      You’re sort of right there. A radiant panel will heat the air not objects. Infrared heat’s objects not the air. And infrared uses a bulb to produce the infrared light/heat. Those just heat up a piece of metal and that transfers heat to the air and from there to the room.
