I always have more respect for unconventionally attractive women who've made it big as looks have such a big part in helping someone become famous as sad as it is, especially for women. I do not think Doja is the best example here, as there are many other, in my opinion, valid reasons to dislike her-like her treatment of her fans. Though this topic is not much of my concern, as I was only a casual listener and do not feel I can speak on the matter, I still like the sound of some of her newer music. The most damaging thing that has ruined my personal opinion of her (and I'm sure many others agree) is the fact that she once posted a picture on social media of herself wearing a shirt with the face of a neo-Nazi comic (Sam Hyde) on the front of it. Then, when confronted, claimed not to know who he was, even though if you look at some of Doja's past behavior-particularly her being on 4chan and the like entertaining group chats containing white supremacists and saying the N-word for their enjoyment-that excuse does not hold up. And even if she truly did not know who this man was, it still wouldn't make much sense for a figure like Doja to own a shirt with such a casual picture of a random man on the front. By the way, such a shirt would most likely either have to be custom-made or procured through an obscure website that would likely still make it obvious that this is Nazi memorabilia because that is realistically the only website that would carry such an item. (This information and much more can be relatively easily accessed via a quick Google search if you are interested in learning more for yourself or simply do not believe in what I am saying.)
I think this can even fall into the fact people do not like weird girls or quirky girls. Almost the same thing happened to Melanie Martinez with her new look. Both of them are weird/quirky women and love to express themselves through their looks and music videos. Her other albums before Portals still showed fun and creative visuals and looks but like Doja she was still shown as pretty. Until her new album Portals when it fell out of the standard.

While a lot of this is valid, I feel like a lot of the hate towards Doja is also because of her under appreciation of her fans and how she down plays how they got her to where she is. She has demeaned these same fans for liking her “old” music even though that music catapulted her to where she is (that Doja still continues to perform despite her distaste of it)

I genuinely don't think so. I'm a fan of Doja cat tbh, but she did some pretty insufferable shit before she dropped the new look. Everyone forgave her back then, but the moment she cut her hair/eyebrows and made her makeup funky, the influx of hate was ASTOUNDING. I classify Doja's looks as attention seeking. Which is fine. And some people won't like it. Which is also fine. Truthfuly I find people also worry too much about someone being biased and being conditioned. I realised I AM biased regarding some aspects and I realise I am conditioned too. And I'm ok with that. It’s really crazy how a smile and self worth and confidence changes how someone looks. The way you smiled throughout learning to love yourself made you look as lovely as you were back then. This is really helpful for me right now because I have been reverting to terrible habits for myself. Knowing that I can be just as beautiful in any stage if I just have the self worth I deserve is really eye opening.

Personally, I love Doja Cat‘s new style because it’s a lot closer to what I like and what I wear, and I think it’s really fun and interesting to have this type of style because it’s not one that you see on black women very often. I have always loved her style because I think that it’s always been very fun and unique in her own way, even when she was following the trends, more closely, but I think she looks great. her “glow down” reminds me to Fever Ray’s a few years back - she never pursued a mainstream look in her art but when her second album was released she picked up a more distinctive look.
I do not think Doja is the best example here, as there are many other, in my opinion, valid reasons to dislike her-like her treatment of her fans. Though this topic is not much of my concern, as I was only a casual listener and do not feel I can speak on the matter, I still like the sound of some of her newer music. The most damaging thing that has ruined my personal opinion of her (and I'm sure many others agree) is the fact that she once posted a picture on social media of herself wearing a shirt with the face of a neo-Nazi comic (Sam Hyde) on the front of it. Then, when confronted, claimed not to know who he was, even though if you look at some of Doja's past behavior-particularly her being on 4chan and the like entertaining group chats containing white supremacists and saying the N-word for their enjoyment-that excuse does not hold up. And even if she truly did not know who this man was, it still wouldn't make much sense for a figure like Doja to own a shirt with such a casual picture of a random man on the front. By the way, such a shirt would most likely either have to be custom-made or procured through an obscure website that would likely still make it obvious that this is Nazi memorabilia because that is realistically the only website that would carry such an item. (This information and much more can be relatively easily accessed via a quick Google search if you are interested in learning more for yourself or simply do not believe in what I am saying.)
