This is it. Undeniably the most difficult etude from the set. It has grace notes, it has staccatos, it has chords, it has grace notes, it has chromatic figures, it has polyrhythms in both hands, it has grace notes, it demands techniques that demand dexterity from the individual fingers and the hands, it has grace notes, it has cross hands, it has repeated notes, it has interlocking chords, it has stretched-hand passages, also did I mention it has grace notes? One of the most difficult pieces in piano literature if someone were to tackle it, both technically and musically. The fact that there are still 15 etudes after this one is a testament to how much Mereaux demanded from a pianist's hands. If Liszt was an artist focused on the intricacies that come from each note, Mereaux is the maniac that focuses on making the art larger than life itself. And as such, this is the etude that makes Mereaux my favorite composer.
TheExarion I am certain it is within the realm of playability at a tempo about half of what is being played here. This along with 20 and 38 clearly should be slower than the MIDI interpretations.
My theory is that those people computer's have so little memory that with the amazing sound of this etude their computer does not have enough memory for graphics to a point where like and dislike buttons are so low quality that they look the same. Then in confusion and amazement due to the etude they try just hitting one of the buttons and there's a 50% chance of them clicking in dislike. Just a theory
I see 5 pieces one must master before attempting to play this piece this fast. Chopin Etude 2-Op.10, Chopin Etude 4-Op. 10, Liszt La Campenella, Liszt Mephisto Waltz and Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2. For the last bit with the crazy hand jumps....not sure what will help other than maybe Liszt Totentanz and Alkan Etude No.5 Op.35. It's a very awkward hand jump that fast.
I'm sure there has to be at least a few more pieces that one needs to get under their belt before attempting this. Many people have mastered those pieces and still wouldn't try this etude out of fear. By the way, Liszt's Paganini Etude S.140 No.6 (not the S.141 version) has a similar hand jump to the one you're talking about, but people who have played it (Nikolai Petrov and Goran Filipec so far) have usually played it at a doable speed.
To conquer fear is more challenging than the technique is. I found when playing certain pieces, tai-chi is very helpful to focus and improve hand-eye coordination. I mentioned those pieces because the hand and arm muscles have to get used to what this piece demands and there is no time for cramping.
What a work to do this midi file. But at 3:21 it is obviously an engraving error. I mean it should be crystal clear that the right hand plays a E Major chord, which is the dominant, and not a dorian or something ending
@@TheExarion He recommended your video in his "realistic" list of top 10 most difficult pieces for piano. Its a bit sad he didn't link Seonyong human recording
@@pawncube2050 - Wow, that's insane! Didn't even know someone of his fame even recognized my channel or Mereaux. Yes, I would've very much preferred he had given a shout-out to Seonyong instead of this video.
Shame its impossible to play at this tempo, because this tempo is where the piece starts to sound exciting. Good thing we have computers. Maybe in the future artificial robots could actually play this on a real piano
Came back to this after I saw a video claiming Chopin's first ballade has the most feared coda. And I have to ask, sure, even though It's pretty much well established in the piano community that this piece will never be played by a human, if someone wanted to actually play this, how much time would it take? Like, 2 hours of studying per day for 10 years?
Look up Seonyong Hwang’s performance of this etude. The tempo he takes this piece is damn near perfect. I unfortunately can’t provide much insight into the practicing needed for this piece.
i just practice the coda every day for like 8 months , i can play it i'm extremely curious to see if i can play at this speed if i were given a smaller keyboard. i can only barely reach a 10th whereas seonyong can reach a 12th. my current repertoire is chopin 10/1, mereaux 24 coda and mereaux 45 coda so im convinced anyone can learn it with enough dedication

Hitherto90 It's physically impossible for me to play. My hands are too small for the 2-5 octaves that Mereaux demands in the right hand for this one
I’m pretty sure 3:11-3:22 is unplayable at that tempo.
You forgot it has grace notes!
You could play it 1-5 and play the lower note of the trill with 2 though that would probably be insanely difficult.
Too fast.. impossible 😂

every time I've listen to this etude I think it's the musical equivalent to the Aristocrats Joke; a piece by a virtuoso for virtuosi.
Mereaux: staccato please
Midi: lol nope
Not featured: The MIDI synthesizer going up in flames 6 seconds after the piece ends.
Why would someone dislike this?!?

Most of the piece can be played at this tempo except those huge jumps near the end. Bravura is in fact harder generally.
